Monaco remembered

I was on that bus from Kelvin travel, I remember it just pulling away from the north inch and someone shouted "1st pub stop the Corrina!!!?" start of a great trip, £15 for 3 pints in some boozer along the front in Cannes even then, wonder how much it will be now, playing footy in my kilt after the game with some young locals, falling and skinning my knee, papparazzi bar the night before and proving to all doubters we were real scotsmen!!!

When I was in the South of France 2 years back (not Cannes), it was averaging between £5-6 a pint so I'd imagine it'll be a good bit more!

Vassa was better

Monaco was fantastic. But I have to agree, Vaasa was much much better. I still see the odd face in the crowd at McDairmid that I recognise from Vaasa.

But since this is about Monaco, here is one of my many memories from that trip. I thought I'd been locked out of my room. After going to reception to change my keycard, I barged in only to find I had been trying to get into the wrong room.

I hope it wasn't anyone on here I walked in on

It was a tremendous trip and one I shall never forget.

Seeing Saints flags flying from the flagpoles in Monte Carlo will stick in my mind forever.

Getting bought a drink after the game - and there were a few of us - by an obviously very wealthy English chap in the 'Sportsmans' pub - next to the station - who thought we were a good friendly support.

Quote of the day came from one of our crowd. 'Hive ye got a daughter'

The guy nearly died laughing

Unfortunately not how I remember it.The guy did say he was a Dundee season ticket holder but I think he was expecting a grab yourself a beer mate and join in.Instead he was surrounded by guys wanting to knock his block off.I was in the process of apologising to his girlfriend as he walked away and I'll never forget the look of disgust in his face. That was just one of a few unsavoury moments on the trip.

hmm, had to double check with mates and WAGs i was with before i responded. Our collective recollection was an agressive, abusive and incitive individual who was huckled off by the local gendarmerie. then again it may well have been been a different dundee fan you encountered in the main square on the day saints were playing monaco ;)

Being with my Uncle Billy and Mike

Mason's dad George. They had been

lifetime Saintees and were buckled.

Time had gone full circle, they had

taken us to our first Saints game

now we were carrying them. Will

cherish Vassa and Monaco til

the day I die

Had just found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks prior to going. Was never going to keep that secret.... how come you're not drinking.....I was probably the only sober person at the game... well ok, I might have had a couple of glasses of vino prior to game... but I promise it was only a couple:wink:

Said baby just started secondary school today... where did those years go?

Meeting Paul Kane's Dad in casino square, I was only 8 at the time.

I know Kano's dad, Jim, pretty well. A fine guy. Chatted to him, Paul & Roddy Grant at Nice Apt. The team plane arrived immediately after hours and we were all in the baggage hall at the same time.

I have a Saints football signed by all of that squad which Jim got for me from Paul.

So glad I made that trip. Was only 20 but even then I realised it wouldn’t be a regular occurrence. Then bus trip from Kelvin Travel at the North Inch was some trek

A bus trip from the North Inch to Monaco, just nuts saying that out loud. Wouldn't get through customs with that excuse these days.

What’s even better is reading through this post and remembering some WAP legends. It’s great to see a really old post get a bump.

I didn’t make Monaco, I was only 13 but I’m sure I remember my dad subscribing to ITV digital just solely to watch the game as it wasn’t on Sky. It was either for the home or away leg, anyway. I didn’t make either.

My grandad passed away suddenly in his early 70s last year. At heart he was a Celtic man but both my grandparents took Saints Season Tickets back in the 90s and took me and my wee bro to games every week.

Anyway... Both my grandparents spent their summers in the south of France and made the trip to Monaco without us, despite being “part timers!”

My wee old gran spent a good hour regaling us with stories of that Monaco trip over this summer with a huge smile on her face, especially when describing the gendarmes taking off their riot gear and embracing the joy of our support partying in Europe.

There’s no away trip I wish i’d been on more. To this day, I suspect it was  something that money can’t buy.

God , it was epic. Met up with my brother at Luton airport. In our kilts. Completely gashed. Flight to Nice, an American female tourist wanted to grope us and did then train to Monaco. Got to the hotel and was so pissed i fell down 2 flights of stairs.  Didn't have health insurance and my ankle was sideways.  Agony. Anyway we met a really nice bar owner who kept giving me whisky, with my leg ****ed. We got shitfaced. I got picked up at 2am by the cops in foliage and my brother had stumbled into the Royal palace... he came back with the polis at 4am. Then the next day, that dundee **** tried having a go in the plaza. Hilarious. He copped it. Then sitting down every 50 metres on the street... cops were brilliant.  I think we were nominated for best away fans... what a team Monaco had!
