Hospital Radio Perth Posted March 10, 2017 Report Share Posted March 10, 2017 A couple really, one is personal, in that for all of us, getting to the studio for 6.30 or 6.40 for the programme is a bit of a rush and half the time loading up the recorded interviews and switching all the knobby things is enough without being tied to always ensuring there is a digital recording going on. After the show (in my case after 10 when I finish the request show) it has to be edited to get rid of the music and improve the volume / balance levels and that takes a bit of time too (mind you last night's could have been a bit better). Getting your tea at 11.30 pm is a pain! The other reason is that for the moment we are using a free host with the restrictions that brings. In this instance we can put on a big file in WAV quality sound , but we only have 2 hours a month and it comes down again after 90 days. So there will only ever be 5 or 6 on offer while we are with them. The committee agreed last night to monitor the situation for a few weeks and if uptake was sufficient then we'd buy into a paid host that allows us as much space as we need and keeps the file there for ever and a day. Will it be a success, well I have to say that 34 downloads in 24 hours exceeded my expectations. So keep listening! In the meantime if anyone can suggest better free hosts than Buzzsprout (remember we're putting on hour long files - last night's programme was just under 600mb). Or if anyone has a suggestion for a permanent site we'd be interested. Indeed if anyone wants to fund it and sponsor the podcast (not the programme Tesco got there first :-) ) then feel free.
