Alan Mannus: past his best?

I'd say the exact opposite. Enckleman made match winning saves and howlers, Mannus is making neither just now. Cuthbert is the better comparison for me.

Exactly my thought, good steady keeper and been great for saints over the years, but even at the penalty for Hibs last week you are hoping he will get to it, but never really feel with any great expectation like an Enckleman type he will stop it, and too often this season rooted to his line when should be commanding his box, along with the number of long range shots that seem to have got past him.

Maybe the defence covered this up in previous seasons or maybe he was in top form, but the defence are certainly not helping him this season, with the constant chopping and changing, some forced with injury/suspension, some just Tommy changing it round, but certainly after today we can't keep conceding such soft goals and expect to win matches

I think a guy that has performed as well as he has for so many years deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Important word being doubt,Ive had doubt about him for a while, were it any other position on the park I don't think it would seem such sacralig to contemplate dropping him for Clarke, but our sentiment and fondness for Manus should not cloud our judgment on the guy.

What a load of bollocks

the goalie needs to command, he needs to be decisive, he needs to give his defense confidence.

i love Mannus but he is a liability, he never comes for a ball and even his distribution and ball kicking has been dodgy lately.

First to admit if we didn't have the Zander I would be sticking, I'm now twisting

It would probably be considered more polite if you simply said that you disagree with my post.

I'd agree that he is failing to deal with the majority of crosses. I can't recall his ball kicking ever being good.

Shouldn't matter about Steve Banks tbh. Tommy Wright used to be a goalkeeping coach and worked with Alan for Northern Ireland International team so you would think he's able to help him out a bit.

Goalkeeper coach is a very specialised position. Wright has a whole squad/club to manage, he's simply unable to give that kind of necessary focus to the keepers, ex keeper coach or not. Banks seemed to have a very good relationship with Mannus and is generally considered a very good coach. I'm certain it's had some kind of negative effect on Mannus.

I've been saying for weeks that "He should have saved that" or "If he had come off his line he could have prevented that". My pals have been disagreeing, until today. He has certainly lost something (or things) and for the manager to have to shout at him to take a goal kick from the other side is a bit weird. He's been outstanding in the past but, if an outfield player had such a dramatic loss of form, he would be replaced. Zander, your time has come

Hadn't even considered that aspect but now I think on it, Banks departure may be playing a part. It could even be down to GK specific performance analysis or something. Maybe our current GK coach is miles off of Banks' level

He looked like he was caught on the wrong foot last week and couldn't shift his weight. I was sat with Dr Jones and we both thought that that ball was only going one place as it was dropping. It fell perfectly for McGinn and he caught it really sweetly. You could blame Mannus but equally, you couldn't strike a ball much better.

Watching from behind the goal at the opposite end of the ground last week I would have agreed with you regarding the shot from McGinn.

However having watched this on camera shots from behind the scorer, Mannus moved to his right to get a view of the ball, as Ando was blocking his view and of course the shot went to Mannus's left, which had become a large target

Was raging with him at the time, but with the benefit of camera angles find him not guilty.

The blame lies with those in front of him for not closing down the shooter quickly enough.

That's not to say that I don't think that Zander should be given a run out, but Tommy will be true to those that have served him well.

He has never made a match winning or match saving save all season. He is not half the goalie he was last season. There must be a reason for his lack of agility & anticipation.

Totally agree. He had rarely made any match winning saves. He is poor at crosses, slow to close people down,I don't think he is very agile, not very smart when it comes to quick distribution of the ball and worst of all he looks like he's forgotten to take the coat hanger out his strip
