Saints v Stirling Albion. LC sectionsw. 30/78/16

Recommended Posts

Onwards we go an we next face Stirling Albion in our final LC section game. A draw will get us through I believe,  but I would be very disappointed if we cannot take the 3 points in the game . I don't think it's unrealistic to imagine that a team of full time pros  who have  been in the top 6 of the SPF for a few years now should be steamrollering a part time outfit like Albion especially at home.  Enough people slagged Celtic, Hearts and even Aberdeen for failing to beat  real minnows..so lets hope  we don't end up in the same category as them.  I am not being disrespectful to Albion, just  looking at the  resources available to both clubs.. I am not having the  " it happened to Dundee, Ross County etc etc. I don't give a shit.   We must be better than them/

hopefully TW send out as strong a team as he can and they can play at a much higher tempo than they did in the first half v Brechin.

And please to god can we stop with the Hoofball and  play some slick, incisive , on the deck stuff.. Sexy football anyone ???

A draw gets us through yes, but only a win gives us any chance of being seeded. Even then I'd be shocked if managed that.

Last game before the league begins, so put the strongest team out and let them get used to each other even more. We've too many new signings to be playing perfectly at this moment.

Clark

Watson - Ando - Joe - Easton

Alston - Millar - Muzz - Swanson

Cummins - MacLean

Rotating goalies so Mannus in goal. Agree with the rest. Hopefully Tommy will stop fukin about with centre half.    ennin

2-1 win for this. Probably an experienced line up, but it takes time for new players to gel, so we need to cut them some slack. I think this League Cup format has been ideal - some proper competition rather than meaningless friendlies, but opposition not so hard that any mistake gets punished.

Don't really buy this "new players take time to gel" stuff. There are plenty of examples of completely rebuilt teams getting off to a stormer at the start of a season. This is all about the players we have, who are BETTER than those at Stirling Albion (which is why they play at a higher level and are paid more presumably), going out and treating the game seriously. Surely if all we do is play a simple game at a high tempo throughout, superior fitness regardless of anything else will be difference?

Oh, and practice some penalties as well please for god's sake

with Watson out Joe to rb was the obvious decision

I would have gone with Comrie. He did well against 2 decent players against Bradford & they never got past him.Surely he would have coped against a team that were going to be defensive & left our best centre half combination intact.

Tommy has too much faith in Scobbie at centre back.

I know the pitfalls of confidence in the football world but I fully expect Scotland's 4th best team to beat a bottom division side by at least a couple of goals, especially when playing them at home.

Is Watson out ?

Looks that way - https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/sport/football/st-johnstone/228763/st-johnstone-got-right-betfred-cup-approach-says-tommy-wright/

Wright added: “Keith Watson will be kept back this week.

“David Wotherspoon will hopefully be getting a lighter cast on which will allow him to play. He is seeing the specialist again. But I don’t think he will feature this weekend. He is fit enough but he probably needs a run.

“Dave Mackay is getting another course of injections next week. He has started to do a bit more work but is still weeks away from a return.”
