Our New Council

I am surprised there has been no discussion on our new council with the Tories taking over from the SNP. What is clear from the result is that the Tories do not speak for the town, only the rural areas so how can they justify making decisions that affect the town? It is very worrying that all the good work of the council could be ruined by the Tories do others not agree?

Is it certain they will take over? I think talks are on-going. They are the largest party, and might try and run a minority administration, negotiating issue by issue. Or they could enter a more formal coalition with the Lib Dems or Independents. Alternatively, the SNP could form an anti-Tory Rainbow Alliance. Will probably take a few days to sort out, unless you've heard differently?

It's a foregone conclusion they will get a coalition majority unfortunately. We can only hope strong voices like Dave Dougan hold them to account. What a step backwards for Perth because rural types are so small minded. Those that need and deserve it most are going suffer intolerably I worry.

In what way will the Conservatives "ruin the good work of the council"?  Are you party to what their intentions are to reverse what you consider to be "good work"?  It's a serious question, since there's a tendency for people up here to buy into and simply regurgitate the "big, bad Tory swear word" narrative pushed by the left in favour of the "bigger goverrnment is better for you" lie, beloved of the likes of failed socialist regimes anywhere, ever (What are they eating in Venezuela these days anyway?)  It's like a bizarre brainwashing experiment gone bad.

Personally, I have no particular allegience to the Conservative Party - I find them a somewhat sad, watered-down version of what they used to stand for.  However, they do go further than most in at least budgeting for most people to keep more of what they earn (if they're actually willing to work in the first place!), but at the same time they are not afraid of bringing an end to industries in this country which have no future, and consequently would give no future to the workers involved.  Whether you like it or not, the Tories have a track record in supporting and actually enabling wealth creators - you know, the people who create jobs for others, which leftist parties simply don't.  Of course the owners and guys at the top get richer, that's business.

I find it intriguing the way people think - I don't consider the leftist agenda pushed by many Scottish councils to be healthy or useful, particularly in relation to children and schools.  Where I am in Fife, the council here has been nothing short of criminal as regards the pushing of issues to our kids which anyone with any more than half a brain cell would disagree with.  I've also been unfortunate enough to have had need of the services of Sturgeon's brave new NHS for the first time in umpteen years.  What a disaster that's been - the inefficiency and waste I've witnessed is unreal.

It's a real struggle here in Abernethy/Brig, where the SNP campaign their arses' off only to lose out on polling day. Managed to get one out of three. You could actually hear the coffin lids creaking open as crumbly old Tories emerged blinking into the daylight and tottered to the ballot box to deny their grandwains a decent future. It was the same at the referendum. However, tempus fugit, and all that....

It's voted. Embrace change. Obviously the previous elect weren't doing a good enough job. I welcome change, however turnout was pisz poor..  half the area dont give a hoot about the local election... Which for me is the most important one.

Hope for local improvement no matter who is voted, it's all in the best interest, would be boring if we all agreed.  Just get the day job done, or you're punted next time around.

They have a big vote ( on Wed. 24th May in 2 High St. at 10.00am ) to decide on the approval or otherwise on the building of 700 new homes in Scone.

The Interim Head of Planning is recommending that the plan should be approved.

700 houses proposed for Scone and the development at Bertha Park but no word of expanding PRI? It's struggling to cope as it is without increasing the population even more.

Does Ninewells not cover most of Tayside ?.
