Radford 72
Fixtures for the 2017/18 SPFL Development League have now been confirmed, with the new season getting under way w/c Monday 21 August. Saints open away to Hamilton, with a first home game against Partick Thistle the following week. The season runs until mid-April. Fixtures: http://spfl.co.uk/docs/067_324__spfldevelopmentleaguefixtures17_18_1499786504.pdf There will be no more blank weeks as Rangers, Inverness and Dunfermline have withdrawn from the league, so the 14 remaining teams (11 from Premiership, plus United, Falkirk and St Mirren) will play 26 games. Saints U20s will be looking to improve on last season when they unfortunately finished bottom of the table. Based on previous seasons, eligible players are those born on or after 01/01/1998 but a maximum of five players of any age are permitted in the matchday squad of eighteen. From last season, Ben Mackenzie, Aaron Comrie, Jason Kerr and Greg Hurst have stepped up to the first team squad, leaving another young group for Alec Cleland to work with, including nine new faces from the successful U17 squad: Ross Sinclair, Ben Quigley, Jack Wilson, Nathan Brown, Ciaran Brian, Euan O'Reilly, Cameron Ballantyne, Jamie McKenzie and Shaun Struthers. garydavidson
Radford 72
The PA ran a story yesterday with Alistair Stevenson talking about the new intake, which includes five players from Perthshire. He concedes it will again be a young and inexperienced squad this season. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/local-sport/perthshire-footballers-sign-full-time-10782065
Radford 72
A third win from three pre-season games for the U20s today, as they came back from a couple of goals down to beat Jeanfield Swifts 5-3 in a testimonial match for Tony Holt. This followed wins over Penicuik Athletic (4-2) and Vale of Earn (9-0). The make-up of the squad is now known and it's another young group, with only one 1998 player in it: Goalkeepers 45. Ross Sinclair (2001) Defenders 35. Cameron Lumsden (1999) 36. Cameron Thomson (1999) 39. Ciaran Brian (2000) 46. Ben Quigley (2000) 47. Jack Wilson (2000) Midfielders 37. Alistair McCann (1999) 38. Cameron Ballantyne (2000) 40. Jamie McKenzie (2000) 42. Euan O'Reilly (2000) 49. Daniel Jardine (1998) Forwards 41. Jamie Docherty (1999) 43. John Robertson (2001) 44. Shaun Struthers (2000) Other than Daniel Jardine, who is heading into his third season with the group, John Robertson (112 goals for Tynecastle BC last season) is the only player who hasn't been promoted from Saints' own youth academy over the past couple of seasons. Kyle McClean (1998) will also be eligible for the U20s but Tommy Wright was clear that he was signed as part of the first team squad. The Development League could also provide the opportunity for the 1997 players promoted to the first team squad (Comrie, Kerr, Hurst and Mackenzie) to get games and add some experience to a young group, although their ages mean they won't be eligible to play Development League football if they go out on loan. The U20s will again take part in the IRN-BRU Cup and they were drawn away to Aberdeen U20s in round one. The tie is to be played at Glebe Park, Brechin on Tuesday 15 August (7:45pm). ex-montrosesaintee, RandomGuy and HOODLUM65
HOODLUM65
Jeanfield game was a good result, coming from 3-1 down, (mainly due to a couple of defensive errors which were duly punished) to win 5-3, with some great passing and movement. Good workout, just what they needed against bigger and stronger opponents. Missed a few more, tho' to be fair Jeanie keeper made a few blocks when faced with 'a one on one'. Good luck in the coming season and look forward to watching their progress. One to watch out for is Alistair McCann, tho' Cameron Ballantyne took the eye yesterday. 55saint and McCarry One Nil

Guest ScottMann
It was at Superseal stadium. Customary to show home team score first. On official channels, yes, but never in my many years of football have I ever heard anyone say eg Saints won 0-3 today. Have you?
HOODLUM65
Sorry if you were confused, but in my many years of following football the home scores are always shown first. I will endeavour to show the teams by name against any score (s) in future. Cagey

An old fashioned it's 2-1 Saints/we're 2-1 up would stop my brain having to do some work.
