Unofficial Twitter linking to story from Ross County chairman Roy MacGregor, apparently the SFA are shifting the goalposts on Project Brave to try and force smaller clubs out the system. He claims itll cost £600k a season to run a youth system under it.

Not sure youth academies work ,not only at Saints. Yes there a few Deli Ali's come through but what happens to probably 90% of young guys who's hopes & dreams are shattered once they reach 20. Not sure if even the clubs get much out of it. Certainly not value for money.

Depends on what your requirements for a "successful" system are, tbh.

Are you meaning the youth academy set ups in England and Scotland or all youth football attached to league clubs?

Hearts seem to have set up there own academy using Balerno High School, not sure it fits in with SFA system, but they seem to be moving away the SFA model

They are still part of the SFA they are just using Balerno HS in the same way as Celtic do with St Niniians in Kirkintilloch and rangers seemingly use Boclair High in Bearsden.

Hearts are still very much in line with the SFA system I believe.

I think your 10% statistic is vastly over estimated, Think there are something like 9000 players in the UK at clubs who are under 9 and of that 0.5% will make it pro. Sure I saw a statistic that a child has a better chance of winning the lottery than becoming a professional footballer.

Problem at these pro youth, performance places is a lot of the parents think their kids are the next Messi and have totally unrealistic expectations and the grim reality is most start dropping out at age 16/17, as not good enough/bored of it/peer pressure you name it.

Having been through 9 years of it,  yep would agree.

Between the ages 8 and 16 nothing counts, (unless you are exceptional) it is what you do after this age. Great to be well trained and have access to facilities however kids need to play.

In hindsight playing for a boys club, school, bb and training with a pro club would have been a much better option.

You cannot train 3/4 times a week and only play 10 minutes football at the weekend in your younger years. Sadly, this is happening to boys every week at a number of academies.

We are not producing players as they are not playing enough football like they did 10/15 years ago. All our heroes when young honed their skills playing all the time, developing technique and playing freely.

I have seen a number of "superstars" fall by the wayside over the years due to being overhyped, going through a bad patch and then falling out of love for the game.

However you cannot always blame the parents as they are sold a "dream" and are suckered into the madness that is Academy football.

Totally agree too many jersey fillers that would have been bettered served with boys clubs.

Although from my own experience the majority of the coaching was better than boys clubs, but again if you are getting 10 minutes here and there, not much point.
