How would a 4-2-3-1 formation work with that line-up? A holding two of Paton and Davidson, an advanced three of Alston, Craig and O'Halloran, and MacLean up front by himself? I doubt that Craig would be used in an advanced three. I'd be inclined to think that it's a midfield four of Alston, Paton, Davidson and Craig, with O'Halloran partnering MacLean up front (or playing just behind).
