I don’t think the original poster is miles off the mark saying that with the team chalking up back to back wins, it’s has to be one of the most expensive bench/stand we have ever assembled.

Regardless of what Max Johnstone’s wages are, when you add them to the wages of Jason Holt, Danny Swanson, Michael O’Halloran, Liam Craig, Ross Callaghan, Chris Kane, Elliot Parish, Callum Hendry, Callum Booth, Madis Vihmann and think that all of the aforementioned eleven players are almost all guaranteed to be out with the starting 11 against Hibs.

It's already been confirmed it's our highest ever wage bill hasn't it?

Either way, if we couldnt afford it, we wouldnt have it.

Monotonous...

The question is not necessarily whether we can afford it or not, the point is more that do we need that much quality as back up squad players on such high wages.

Do we need a 3rd choice goalkeeper when we are a club that run such a tight ship, or could we use other means to plug a goalkeeping gap if Clark or Parish got injured.

Of course we need a 3rd choice keeper ffs.

We're a top flight side with millions in the bank, a top 8 finish brings in over a million on it's on, folk are speaking as if we're a pub team reliant on 50 fans every second week.

Of course it's a good idea if it let's our promising young keeper go out on loan. That promising young keeper will either get us money or be pushing for a first team place in a couple of years time. Look at the journey our current keeper as well as Kerr, Gordon, May, Kane and McCann have taken. Don't be so shortsighted,  embrace the system, it works.

On Wednesday we had Holt,Callahan,Booth & 3rd choice goalie sitting in the stand.

1. How can we afford that.

2. Will we have to unload some in January.

3. Do we have the strongest squad outside OF & Dundee United.

4. Can we keep them all happy, with Danny,Mikey etc not getting game time.

Dundee United??

You been on the meths again?

Did not want start a new topic

Stevie May has now played the equivalent of 7 matches in game time, he has played 625 minutes and scored 1 goal with 0 Assists. I was expecting more. 27 league games left at this rate, he will be lucky to score 4 more. We need more from him. All summer we were looking for a stiker to score goals and last season complained about the return from our strikers.

Never mind we might have got Kane Hemmings.

Aye, Hemmings who has 3 goals in just over 800 minutes in the second tier as it stands...

Just don’t mention Lawrence Shankland to RG. He’ll quote you some random statistics from 1982 about Shanklands attempts off target vs on target vs headers vs passes completed before penalties or some pish like that

Shankland has done nothing at the top level.  Can see why United wanted him this season given his record in the Championship, but let's wait and see how he does in the top flight (if the Arabs even get there!).  If the reports of what United are paying him are true, then there's no way he would have come to Saints anyway.

jhq has nailed it. Shankland would be earning more than any player in our squad, based on 6 good months at Ayr (he barely scored after the turn of the year).

You can point to what hes doing now, but I fully understand why the club didnt go all in on him in the Summer.

Stevie May doing alright as replacement for Tony Watt who only managed 2 goals and 4 assists in league last season.

Give the guy time.

To compare him to another so called top striker who couldn't score either is not a true reflection of what is required from a striker.
