It's the tribal warfare between men that has went on for centuries. Make yourself look better and belittle your enemy. Football should be tribal. Its a release for the working man on a Saturday. And I f##kin love it!!3 points -

I'm not sure. I'd like to think that if Dougie thought we had left Kim tied to a seat in the away end at Dens on Saturday and forgot to untie her and bring her home after the match, he would've called Dundee FC to enquire about her whereabouts before 4.45pm on Monday. Based on this admittedly fairly bizarre logic, I reckon he loves Kim a wee bit more than the flag.3 points -

Why not come to the SJFC game on Saturday against St Mirren at McD. Go to the far end of the East Stand without scarve and shout....." You are a bunch of f#cking pussy cats, Brechin rule". Then somebody from this site will know who you are and come and make friends. Then we will know that you are not just some snivelling pr1ck.3 points -

Away and play ping pong - leave the 'slagging off' of the great unwashed to those who care about their team and enjoy the banter. Suppporting your favourite team is tribal - no time for 'love ins'3 points -

Has turned into an excellent football commentator, comes across as totally unbiased and gives clear explanations of tactics and decisions. To those of you who slate him as a player or person, where in this day to you get a true club servant who only wants to do well for one team, Steven Gerrard is another in the same mould dislike them if you like but you would love to have them in your team2 points -

Hello Lomas Doubters Are You There?
Smarmy Arab reacted to Edstar101 for a topic
I think I added saying that passion for the particular club that a manager is employed by isn't necessarily required. Maybe for 'passion' you could replace with 'love for' the club. To have that is uncommon and is usually reserved for managers who have had a former connection, either a s a player or a fan of that club. Passion doesn't necessarily mean jumping about on the sideline. Again, perhaps the term 'desire' could be applied, as in the desire to do a good job and 'commitment' would be more appropriate. My use of the term 'passionate' was more driven by another poster who had said that Lomas was showing that he was 'passionate' about Saints. My response was to say that I don't think he is, not only because he doesn't have that aforementioned previous 'connection' with the club, but because I think he really sees us as a 'must do' to get where he wants and I still think he can't wait for that requirement to be served and to move on to bigger things. All the above doesn't mean that I don't think he is capable of doing a good job here, I was just combatting people getting too carried away with what they think Saints actually mean to Lomas1 point -
Singing the whole match regardless of the score strikes me as a very important part of what ultras are about (or should be). That was my experience of the small group of ultras in Romania too. Their songs were about: supporting the club on the one hand and stating who they were and what they stood for on the other. They didn't have negative songs aimed at rival groups of supporters, but I reckon that was partly because the club didn't have any really fierce rivals. My personal opinion is that the time spent at a match is best spent encouraging your own team by singing as much as possible to drive them on, which doesn't leave much time for slagging off the other supporters, but having said that, when you've got a rivalry like that between Saints and Dundee, that has to be referenced in songs. Anyway I reckon deciding what songs you're going to sing is one of the most important parts of setting up a group of ultras (and then actually singing them at matches of course). My question is: what songs are you planning to sing? And also: what are the best Saints songs over the years? Maybe there are some from years ago that should be resurrected?1 point

Hi Sainties, Sorry I don't live up to your manly ways. I accept that many of you consider it banter but good humour seemed sadly lacking. I'm not a killjoy so I'll leave it at that. I would like to say that during that Brechin City game at McDairmid Park in 2003 (you know, the one where we beat you 2-1, did I mention it before?) I stood up among the Saints fans and shouted "stick it in the net" which our guy duly did and nobody told me to sit down even when I shouted "Yes!". Admittedly I had the element of surprise but I like to think it was that you are really pussy cats and your miaow is worse than your bite. I look forward to coming back to one of your games. But I wont be wearing my scarf! Best Wishes, Brechiner PS I'm intrigued at the references to fish and trawling. We have got fish in Loch Leven but no cod.1 point -

Changed days from the days at Muirton where you could pick up a "set of darts" and a "dozen golfballs" courtesy of the opposing fans -coupled with cans of regurgitated beer in open cans. Now its a bit of "winding up the opposing support" with songs about their city . On matchday you have a few drinks in one of the away establishments and if yer lucky discuss the game prior to kick off with like minded supporters of the other team -Come 3 oclock or wotever time kick off occurs -the adrenalin switches to the "banter" ( sticks and stone may break yer bones so why should names etc hurt ye ). Who cares what the young generation sing -its a lot better than the running battles that used to exist.1 point -

I don't think I have transmitted those thoughts at all! What I said was that he was a decent striker at Wednesday and at Glanford Park and that he has become a bit of a journeyman since. I also asked if he was the answer to our failure to find the back of the net?1 point
