  1. The Inspiration

    Darren Wilcox

Really tragic news. He was diagnosed with Leukemia whilst mourning a friend of his own, around two years ago. Seemed to be doing fine until around 4 months ago and was in and out of hospital. Despite his illness, this news has come as a shock to everyone who knew him. One of the nicest, most humble guys you could meet and a talented left-footer to boot. For those of you who didn't know him or know of him, he was a Perth born lad, attended St Johns PS and St Columba's High before leaving to join Saints. Always proud to follow his old man in supporting Kilmarnock but wasn't adverse to coming along to Saints games, even before he made his ties with the club. His old man founded Perth Killie as a football team for Darren and his mates, and it quickly grew into a well known name in Perth. When I was younger it always felt like a privilege to play football with him but now I feel more privileged to have known him. My thoughts are with his family and all of those who lost a friend at the weekend

  2. Most folk with school age kids will go in the school holidays. I agree though, many of those people are going to miss midweek games in winter. Pleasant temperatures, long nights and better pitches are all plus points to summer football. I honestly can't think of any positives for winter football. You lose a lot of people at this time of year for various reasons. Weather, lack of funds around Xmas etc. I genuinely think that the people that maybe attend 5 - 10 home games a season would be more inclined to attend in summer. It's a far more enjoyable spectacle. Everything looks better when the pitch is bathed in sunshine...

  4. Gets right on my wick when the last era of Saints fans most of whom are now parents or grandparents of young potential saint's fans blame everything but themselves. Nevermind PlayStations, sky tv, Celtic, Sevco, la liga, poor product. Parents these days would prefer to let their kids sit and watch tv rather than get their ass into gear, get on a bus and head to McDiarmid. Transport is more accessible than ever, football stadiums are more family friendly than ever and Saints are offering a better "FATHER AND SON" deal than ever. I think the current crop of Saints mums, dads, grandads grandmothers, aunties and uncles need to take a look at themselves rather than blaming the kids, the football club, the media, sky tv. Get on the bus, appeal on here for a lift share, take advantage of the brilliant Ormond Stand deal!

  6. Would be interesting to know what age you are and if you have any kids. I'm not disagreeing with your philosophy, but the folk who talk a good parental game are those folk who don't actually have kids yet

We should've bit the bullet and paid £3.5million for John Stones.

  8. Don't hear The Continuity Chiefs mentioning another record being set by 'Rangers/Sevco' - first time 'Rangers/Sevco' have gone six major cup comps in a row not reaching the quarter final stage. Also like the fact that the crowd for the match was greater than that for the last SPL meeting between DUFC and Rangers (deceased).

im in no way disparaging perth, but for a town its size, the range of hotels is pish. when i was a kid the city mills was seen as high end, anyone whose actually spent a night there.. well its disappointing to say the least there also seems to be a myth of scottish hospitality, being so good it makes up for a lack of facilities. id take a pool and good food over someone being chatty any day. thats just me YMMV

  15. Couldnt agree more. It seems that Saints are set out differently to always counteract the opposition. I would much rather that we simply played to OUR strengths.

    Your Starting 11

I haven't a clue what the best starting eleven is.

  18. Come on, this is harsh he's utilised the players he has the best he could today in my opinion. You just can't legislate for the misses both Tade and McLean had together with an inspired goalkeeping performance.

  19. Oh just **** off. Look to the players who showed no fight, no desire, no passion today. You're very quick to critisise Lomas, but those players must take the majority of the blame today.

I've heard quite a few folk saying it shouldn't be allowed to open and I just don't get them, Perth folk do my head in sometimes. If they're not moaning about the lack of businesses and the empty shops in town then they're moaning about the businesses that do want to bring jobs to Perth. We should be happy that a major hotel chain wants to open up in the town centre, not only because of the jobs it will bring but it could help us attract more folk to the concert hall, I'm sure there are plenty of folk who don't make the journey to Perth because of the lack of a cheap familiar hotel nearby. The likes of the royal george etc aren't for everyone so I think it's a good thing

  22. The crowd looked awful on TV last night. What did Saints actually do to get people in for this game? Was there any sort of ticket offer? Were schools given free tickets? Was the match promoted in the town? Was anything done at all? Surely the club must have realised that this match was going to really struggle to draw any sort of crowd? We've had countless threads like this but very little ever seems to change. I'd like to see some serious changes made, including: - Sell match tickets online for every game, at a £1 or £2 discount to encourage people to buy in advance - Establish a proper, electronic database of fans, and then email them once a week with a club newsletter which heavily promotes ticket sales and special offers (this would also be promoted via Facebook, Twitter and the official site) - A permanent presence in the town centre - if it can't be a permanent shop, it could be a stall or trolley in the St J centre I also think the SPL is in desperate need of sitting down with Sky and ESPN and sorting out when televised matches are meant to happen. I'm sure most of us accept by now that the days of playing at 3pm every Saturday without fail are gone, but at least in the early days of the Sky deal we always knew that the Sky match would be at 6pm (or 6.05pm??) on a Sunday night. Now it seems to be any old time of the week and it's just a massive pain in the arse. Can't there be an established Scottish football 'slot' on these channels? I think that would help everyone, and it might even help the broadcasters themselves build up a better audience for Scottish games. I also think the club needs to be far, far more creative and adventurous in thinking up interesting gimmicks that would get people talking... starting with projecting a giant picture of a celebrating Dave Mackay onto the front of Perth City Hall.

  23. When clubs hike up prices, hire Neanderthals as stewards and change kick off's to ridiculous times. I bet we get the same amount of fans at the game on Saturday as we did last night. FOOTBALL IS NOTHING WITHOUT THE FANS

    Lomas Tenure Up?

The Record aren't making an allegation of sexual harassment. They are reporting that an allegation of sexual harassment has been made by a former employee of the club and that a tribunal could hear the case. That is 100% true. There is nothing incorrect in the Record story. Whether or not the allegation made by said former employee is true is another issue entirely, and it could be the source of more bad headlines further down the line.

    Lomas Tenure Up?

She's been front of house worker representing Saints to the public for 11 years. I'm sure if she was a stirrer/trouble maker it would have been dealt with before now.
