Enckelman was an international goalkeeper who'd played over 50 times for Aston Villa. Definitely a big name signing for us at the time and certainly not the sort of CV our signing targets normally have.

    Amsterdam

Good afternoon Saints, Last year me and a group of friends from Amsterdam were visiting the game against dundee. We had a great time in the stadium and also in your clubhouse we had been welcomed in a great way! At that moment we offered that we would be pleased to give you the same welcome whenever you wanted to make a trip to visit a game of Ajax. I promised to post the schedule for 2015-2016 in order for you to possibly chose a game you would like to visit. Could you please let me know if there is still interest for you to do this as in that case I will post a few games of which it will be possible for supporters without being a club card holder to obtain tickets. We are also considering a trip to Perth again in 2016 but this will depend how far we will get in the European Cup with Ajax. One of the trips we will have to make is to Celtic by the end of November. All the best!

Sure, I agree - but I also think he had better contacts and was really good at selling the club to the sort of "big name" players we wouldn't otherwise have been able to attract (Morris, Duberry, Enckelman, Sandaza - probably a few others too that I've forgotten about).

Theres absolutely no doubt that Tommy Wright is doing a great job at St Johnstone. His statistics are very similar to McInnes at St Johnstone. McInnes won 1.503 points per game in 177 games Wright has won 1.519 points per game in 106 games So you could argue that Wright has so far got a better return, however if you guys get beat on Saturday, he drops to 1.504 Who would you envisage as being a natural successor to Wright? Davidson?

You mean when McInnes goes back home to Ibrox? Yes, I could see that one being a possibility further down the line..

  15. Please be Lomas. I'd love to see Tommy's Saints thump a team with Lomas in charge.

  16. Don't think it's been mentioned on this match thread yet, but the quality of the Saints bench on Saturday really stood out for me. We've now got guys like Sutton, Fisher and Kane who can't get into the team, McKay who can't even get on the bench (anyone else wondering if maybe he won't be around for long?), and Ando to factor in too. Plus a load of players out on loan including Brown who was a fairly regular player for us and Hunter who seems like a really promising goalscorer. And I'd imagine there's still a desire to add a left winger too. I know it was said during the summer that this could be one of the strongest ever Saints squads and that sort of talk swiftly disappeared after the Alashkert disappointment - but I honestly don't think I've ever seen a Saints squad as consistently strong in so many positions as this one is. Personally I'm feeling really positive about this season as I don't think many teams around us are anything to fear and without a doubt we can challenge for Europe again. It's also really pleasing to hear Tommy Wright saying he still has goals for the club, and I'm sure the League Cup will now be one of those.

  17. The same people berating Scoobs at the moment will be the same ones expecting Ando to step back into the team and be mistake free. It ain't gonna happen.

  21. We had a wonderful decade in the 80's, when we won the title, reached the last 4 of the European Cup, final of the UEFA cup...for a club with an average home support of 7K, gave hope to every senior club across the continent. But we have won two cups since then, and been to several finals, and after a decade of fighting relegation we have been top six for 7 consecutive years whilst having to sell our best players every year. Russell, Goodwillie, Hunt, Kalvenas, Robson, before the last crop. How do we get such massive transfer fees? Why can Saints not get a 1 mill for 30 goal May, yet we get 3 mill for 18 year old Gauld? Maybe unfair, but good business for Dundee United. Europe is no longer relevant for Scottish clubs, we simply cannot make an impression at that level any more, and participation certainly now costs us all money rather than making us money. I would like to think this can change, but there is little sign that it will any time soon.

Anyone who thinks these guys are walking across the continent of Europe just so they can get a grotty flat in Perth or wherever and live off a few quid a week in benefits is utterly, utterly bonkers. Many of them are professionals, skilled craftsmen, or just young lads bursting for a chance to work their arses off without getting blown to atoms by munitions we sold their government. These guys are the cream of the gene pool, and we should be gagging to welcome them. Mind the Ugandan Asians? Their grandladdies own the big hoose at the end of your street. The Germans have got this, and are banking on these guys to propel their economy forward in the next decade or so. Meanwhile, our politicians are overwhelmingly Influenced by next Tuesday's headline in the Daily Mail. We are being ruled by a self-interested Bullington elite who couldn't give a fek about the future of our country as long as they remain rich, in charge, and supplied with sufficient kids to roger.

I was walking past a big issue seller a while back and a woman next to me started shouting to the big issue seller (who, as ever, was just asking if someone would buy the magazine) about how, if she was homeless, how come she could afford a mobile phone. This woman then looked at me, seeking agreement that the big issue seller was an outrageous hypocrite. What I should have explained was that mobile phones are no longer a luxury, and that those in insecure housing situations are probably the ones who depend most on mobile phones to keep in touch with family and friends and, particularly, from a practical point of view, having a mobile phone means that if they are fortunate enough to be offered a job interview or different accommodation they can be contacted. And of course, to access any kind of support nowadays you pretty much have to have access to the internet and be able to phone a call centre. Instead, to my shame, I said nothing and walked away. Its clear that there are so many misconceptions about homelessness (and to keep on topic, migrants, refugees etc) and this is reflected in seeing phones as an unnecessary luxury - its bizarre.

  29. Had Everest quote me recently, although not for roofline. Two and a half hours of sales patter followed by an exorbitant quote. Good to see recommendations for a local firm. Will check out Highland Homestyle. @Hoodlum The Everest guy had a laminate with Ted Moult on it - including the fact he later blew his head off with a shotgun! Interesting sales pitch
