  1. Yes, but you've also got to factor in that if you let them go for free next season, you have a whole year to find replacements and are more likely to make some money from the European run. When a spine of a team goes, it really hit morale too.

  2. This is what I agree with. At the end of the day, we can all value Rooney or Kerr at £700,000+ but they are only worth what someone is willing to pay. If someone is only willing to pay £300,000 we have to be honest and say that he is worth more than that to us and needs to stay. If he leaves a year later for free, so be it. £300,000-£500,000 won’t change our season, keeping Rooney Kerr and McCart together will.

  3. I'm just amazed he's done that. He was still highly regarded by Liverpool fans and that's now gone. He's said unflattering things about Everton in the past so the Toffees' fans will struggle to accept him.

  4. A move down south is a big leap in wages and a big step towards getting capped. It's also an opportunity to then get a potential life changing move. A couple of games in Europe won't be the hook for a player that we imagine it to be.

  5. My thoughts too. We’re far more likely to make the Euro groups with these guys in the squad. We should be selling no one until the end of the window. Conference group stages is worth more than £1m

  6. So Saints would sell their double cup winning captain and double cup winning goal scoring full back for less than 3/4 of a million bucks ? If this is even remotely true it is nothing short of insulting to the players and a kick in the puss to supporters that the heart of their greatest achieving is getting torn apart right in front of them .No happy.

  7. I actually enjoyed the Ukraine game - loads of incidents and an exciting finish. Just a pity the commentary team decided to talk about England throughout the whole game. Germany offered very little and I don't think they deserved to go any further. This is the most boring, cautious England team I've ever watched, but it's working for them as they're very hard to score against. Looking at the way the draw pans out now it has to be said that they have a decent chance of making it all the way to the final.

  8. Quite the worst Germany Team I have ever seen. Ukraine next and they will not provide much of an opposition. We can only hope in the Semi Final that it is not coming ‘home’.

  9. Papers saying we've set Kerrs price at £400k, and Rooney can leave for £300k. Interest in McCart too, who will likely be in the same bracket somewhere. Middleton still training with Rangers and no decision made on his future yet, unlikely anything will happen until hes done pre-season with Rangers.

  10. Unless a really significant offer comes in that the club just can't turn down, I'd prefer to see us have the benefit of those players in our team for another season, even if it means they leave for nothing at the end of it. Hypothetically, if Rooney (for example) scores the goal that gets us into a European group stage, that's going to be of a lot more value to the club than a £200,000 offer from Rotherham. That last week before the transfer window closes could be a really interesting one for Saints, as at that point we'll know whether we've made it into a group stage or not.

I think we as fans were, to an extent, guilty of what we often criticise England for, being over confident and over ambitious. In theory we did have a great chance to get beyond the group, and I do feel disappointed that maybe we didn't take that chance. However, am I wrong in seeing qualifying for the first time in 22 years, and getting to the knockout stages for the first time ever, as a bit of a jump? We're back on the scene, we now have a team with experience of playing in a tournament, let's build on that. Baby steps!
