Am getting more concerned about Mackay at centre half. Not been overly convincing all season and teams getting a lot of joy from set pieces. We are suffering from Wright's departure more than anybody would have imagined. Good to see him at Fir Park the other night in the stand.

How many penalties does someone need to balloon over the bar before the manager realises he isn't a bloody penalty taker.... 3 times from memory Maclean has ballooned penalties over the bar, it's not bloody hard...
Wright needs to stop being so stubborn and just make a sub when i's blatantly obvious we need 1... Fisher was blowing out his arse and playing awful and stays on until the 85th minute.
I didn't think Sutton had a bad game but it just wasn't working and Hearts were coasting threw that 2nd half with ease until Kane came on.
Don't think Spooney is centre mid player either.
Still should have pumped them, think Muzz missed a good few chances.

You are absolutely correct about your 2nd point, anyone can and will put their own spin anything, including the West. Everything that is in the so called news is spun so it suits the Western agenda.
Is it that hard to believe that we aren't the good guys in all of this? 1 thing for sure is we certainly aren't innocent in whats happened in the Middle East.

    Sad times.
I'm pretty sure us bombing the shit out of the middle east etc in the name of ''justice'' has nothing to do with this at all... Wouldn't surprise me if this was entirely orchestrated by the West and Israel so we can march on in to Syria now.

saintj reacted to Brogan in Armed Forces Day
I’ve just come back – ironically from a moving remembrance service – to read the latest in this thread.

Can I repeat: no-one here has attempted to belittle remembrance. I only questioned holding an armed forces day at a football match, and worried that remembrance events were becoming ostentatiously trivialised and militarised. Yesterday's events only strengthened my views.
In particular, the War Graves section at half-time showed how far remembrance can be hollowed of meaning. A list of locals whose Wellshill graves were maintained by the War Graves Commission was read out by children, along with the men’s rank and number. They were lauded as soldiers who had paid the ultimate sacrifice and were euphemistically described as ‘the fallen’. We were told we would remember them. But in remembering had anyone bothered to find out the human stories behind their deaths?
For a start, half of those whose names were read out never fought. One was popular railway guard and reservist who died of old age in January 1915. Another grave commemorates the life of a retired Major who died peacefully at home in Balhousie Terrace.
There was undoubted tragedy in some of the deaths of those named, even if they didn’t occur in battle. One died of natural causes on a training exercise; another was killed when he fell out of a train near Cumbernauld; a third fell off a horse in York. Yet another took ill in London and died in Woolwich hospital.
Other deaths were accidents. One poor lad buried at Wellshill was shot in the back by his friend while hunting rabbits near Glenfarg.
Perhaps the saddest untold story behind the names read out yesterday was that of a 45-year-old reservist tram conductor. After his shift, a little after 8 o’clock in the evening of Saturday, 17 August 1915, he went home to his wife and family in Brown Street, put his shotgun in his mouth, pulled the trigger and blew the top of his skull off.
The trouble is that none of these fascinating, often moving stories were told, because they don’t fit a narrative that demands we only list names and numbers so we can say they all fell bravely for a single cause. But when people are so reduced, are we really remembering the human cost? I got the impression that anyone listening yesterday didn’t think much about it. This is how trivialised our remembrance has become: we seem more impressed by how quiet we were in the minute's silence than anything else.
In the end, were those deaths more tragic than, say, the loss of our first-team goalkeeper, John Mulrooney, to a heart attack days after the outbreak of war? His lack of rank alone means his name will never be read out at McDiarmid. And Johnny Cameron’s war death will forever eclipse his moment of greatest bravery: when he rescued a wee girl who’d fallen into the Tay at spate in the dark in late February 1913. Cameron jumped fully-clothed into the river by Perth Bridge to swim to her and save her.
But I want to close on a wider point. In offering my views on an Armed Forces Day – which would have passed without comment a few years ago – I’ve insulted no-one, nor been rude to anyone who holds a different view. I’ve attempted to put facts behind my opinions, and asked questions I was open to hear answers to.
But I’ve realised most of those I’m discussing it with aren’t listening. In lieu of counter-arguments I, or others who hold similar views, have been called ‘blinkered’, ’idiots’, ’knobs’ and ’assholes’. I’ve been told to hang my head in shame and ‘get [my] attitude sorted out’. I’ve been informed that my comments were ‘offensive’ and was advised to miss the match.
This thread hasn’t promoted discussion. Instead – and surely there’s irony here – it’s shown intolerance.  Being called ‘assholes’ by a fellow Saints fan – and seeing the names on the list of ‘likes’ attaching themselves to such a nasty comment – strikes a new low. So this will be my last post on the topic – and in this forum.
Compassion inflation and intolerance towards differing views will ensure the same Armed Forces spectacle is repeated next year. I won’t making the same argument against it then. I may not have managed to change minds, but I don’t regret for a minute speaking out against it.

Stevie May got us to a cup final and reinvigorated the whole town when it came to Saints. To suggest he was anything other than good for morale when he was here is completely disingenuous. The man was, is and always will be a Saints legend and it would be nice if some of our fans could show a bit more loyalty to one of our own.

Aberdeen fan, you've never sat in the away end m8. No need to stick up for your club all the time. Your stadium probably has the worst experience in the top flight for away fans. We aren't making it up.  It's a ****ing shite hole. I'll never go back.

At the end of the day he is a unionist and doesn't support Scotland getting any significant new powers never mind independence.Be interesting to see how much of an impact he can have up here given that he isn't the same as the rest of them since before Tony Bliar came in to power.

I don't see how Nicola has made a major error seeing as she hasn't said anything that hasn't already been said about another referendum.

    Are you a mod?
Does it seriously impact your life whether this is in Saints Chat or not?
Do you actually have anything to back up your claim that he 'wants to go for the big money'?

We can't just dismiss this - as Tommy Wright is trying to do - as a 'typical St Johnstone start to the season' and that it takes time to sort out our defence. He's rewriting history. Even ignoring the yawning gap between our European performances compared to past years, league facts don't back him up. A couple of years ago we won two out or first three without the loss of a goal; last year did we not win three out of our first five? We've certainly gone through bad patches in previous seasons, but these sort of excuses irk when it's clear we're starting the season like this because we're not playing well enough. However you dress it up, or look at the positives, the bottom line is that we haven't deserved to win any game I've seen this season.

And if that's not gloomy enough, nor do I think our problems will be solved at a stroke by the return of a couple of players or a new signing.

I'll stick my neck out hoping to be proved wrong and say Dave Mackay will never be the answer at right-back. He's been a great player but even last season he looked fractionally slower. Down to his bad hip? Perhaps, but left-wingers at other clubs will be slavering at the chance to come up against a 35-year-old who lacks match fitness and has been out for five months. Dave is a central defender now.

Steven Anderson took ten years to rise from bombscare to competent Premiership player; yet only six weeks to somehow become indispensable. Have we forgotten Anderson needs a good partner to function? We got a glimpse of how poor he can be without one against Alashkert. Hopefully Mackay/McKay will be the answer, but Anderson alone isn't.

Danny Swanson is being touted as the answer to all our problems probably by the same people who touted Liam Craig as the answer to our problems six weeks ago. Swanson at least promises the creativity we lack, but some context: in the dozen games he played for us last season, he made a difference in a handful, was average in a few others and was heckled unmercifully in a couple more. I'd certainly take him, but if we think he's an instant guarantee of success we're setting ourselves up for more heckling. And any arrival prompts the wider issue of an utterly overloaded midfield. Is he going to play wide or middle? How may squad players are going to be kicking their heels in the stands?

The answer to our problems lies deeper, and will take longer to solve. Tommy needs to have a look at his recruitment policy, his team selection and his attitude to younger players. A couple of examples. I have time for Tam Scobbie as a utility player, but a two and a half year deal? In this climate? Why? And are we that wealthy; that in need of choice that we needed to sign Liam Craig with Caddis and Lappin on the books? At best it's a risk; at worst there's a hint of letting sentiment get in the way of forward thinking.

But it's our treatment of younger players that worries me more. I'm not even going to go over the merits of giving players like Thomson, Rodger and the departed Easton a shot. But instead look at Tommy's bias for established players. Can anyone tell me what Brown did against Hearts that two weeks later sees him disappear off the radar? And - while I don't want to pile on Scobbie - is there any reason he keeps his place in a porous defence when McKay is quickly dropped? Are we ever going to see Kane given a decent run, rather than cameo appearances when the untouchable MacLean comes off?

I don't think these problems are insurmountable, but I was worried pre-season and though I hope I'm being far too premature here, I don't see a quick turnaround. And I'd rather see Tommy actively make smart decisions rather than having them forced on him by continuing poor performances.
