I suspect that all the space that they have would have to be cleared by a certain time, and that would probably be before the turnstiles open. It could really only happen in an area that was wasn't needed for car parking.

i'm not sure there is a doubt about the budget, rather how much it is going to cost to extend Tommy and May's contracts. Perhaps Muzz too. If these are close to being sorted out then the club would know how much it's got spare.

I am pretty sure the committee will have sounded out 'Glamour' teams who do not bring more than a couple of hundred fans along, but I think a lot of it will be to do with it being World Cup year and teams trying to give their players a break of a couple of weeks. There is nothing worse in my book than a Man Utd, Liverpool or Tranmere being announced and coming up with basically a reserve team who then go and play us off the park!!

I think the short-sighted thing was upgrading Hampden in the first place. Glasgow already has Ibrox and Celtic Park - why waste money on another large stadium there? If there really does need to be a national stadium (and I'm not convinced there does), why not put it somewhere else?

As it is, I'd be in favour of seeing Scotland playing matches all over the country as they're meant to be a national team, not a Glasgow one.

It is a great topic. My dad used to take me to lots of games, occasionally midweek games as well (we lived in Dumbarton so they were normally just in the west coast). I was allowed to go and see Dumbarton as well on my own. There was never any doubt I was a Saints fan though. Once we were back in Perth my mum used to come as well when she could. In fact one of the last times I saw her was at the football when I was first year student. As we were getting older she was coming more and more before she died.

football is in our family. Even those who are not that interested, they are still Saints fans. My sister and niece came with me on Sunday to see the trophy. A great day and great to share it with family.

Well as posted elsewhere it was my mum who got me, a wee glaswegian laddie brought up beside Hampden, supporting the Saints.  She just couldn't conscience letting me fall for the bigot bros - besides she was a Saintee.  And she bought me my 'replica' Saints strips through the late 60s and 70s (from Lumleys, Sauchiehall Street) - even although we didn't really have the money and they didn't really do replica kit for Saints back then - so I could wear it with pride in and out of school while being slagged off by all my Glasgow school mates,

And there she was sat beside me and my lad on saturday - 82 yrs young - Saints scarf round her neck cheering her team on - so proud.

Not quite what OP is about I think - but along the same lines.

I've got a snap of her and my lad outside the ground before the game - might well post it on the photos page,

I have now heard more than enough comments about "day trippers" coming to support St Johnstone at The Scottish Cup Final on what then turned about to be our most successful day in 130 years of history. So here it is.....

I remember my mother telling me I couldnt go down to Berwick on Tweed on a Tuesday night when I was 15 to support saints because I had school the next day. The money it cost wasn't the problem in our household at the time . I promised this and that, I would study harder, I would cut the grass etc etc. My mum over time paid hundreds and hundreds of pounds to allow me to watch St Johnstone from say 5 till I earned proper money at 21. From around 15 -21, I hardly missed a game, home or away. Bless her, she let me go that night and being a selfish wee dude....I never thought of her dipping in to her purse to pay. I reckon on the 8,500 plus crowds we had for the two european games this season, in this economic climate, there were a lot of mums who had to dip in to their purse when, electricity bills, council tax were due through the letter box to pay some young saints fans to attend when they couldnt really afford it....."well ALL my other mates are going", .......you can hear it now.

So next time when you see someone around the age of my mother (mid-seventies) with a Saints scarf on and not jumping around to the 'Stevie May" song...just shut the fVck up and be pleased she attended.

Back in the states now, but still lapping up any and all peoples commentary from the day!

Ill add a story that has stuck with me..... about 45 minutes after the game, 4 of us were drinking it up by our car in a parking lot off London Road, lapping it all up and enjoying the banter. I'd seen an older fella walk through to a rusty looking old 2-axle lorry at the back of the car park. He was doing stuff in his cab for the next 30 minutes or so, then drove up to us on his way out. Wound down the window and proudly displayed the inside of his cab that was now a saints shrine with flags, scarves etc covering the interior and him covered in Saintees gear.

He told us in a rich Suffolk accent that he had to head home now, as he had a 9 hour drive back to Bury St. Edmonds....with that, he shook our hands, wound up the window and puttered away....none of us spoke for a minute...wonderful memory.

I honestly felt humbled by this fella', what an effort, on his own, an 18 round trip pilgrimage. Would love to have had a beer with him and learned more about how/why he became a Saintee. If you read the forum, good on you mate!

I would like to see the club arrange a 'signing' event at McDiarmid for all fans (not just season ticket holders). Let fans bring along their programme, Cup Final t-shirts - whatever they like - and queue up to get it all signed by the Cup-winning team. Once you reach the end of the queue you also get to have your photo taken with the Scottish Cup.

On top of this the club could make some money by selling Cup-winners scarves, t-shirts etc.

Football fans are generic. There is a large chunk of any fanbase that are arseholes. A large chunk that are bitter. A large chunk that are sore losers. Thankfully also a large chunk that are respectful and there were many United fans, particularly in the South Stand, who stayed to applaud Saints for their achievement. I had a good laugh both on the way to and from the game with both sets of fans and some cracking people. The only real nobbishness I witnessed outside was The Rangers fans in the bars at Bridgeton. It was very similar to the 1991 cup final in that respect and there were a lot of children who had a very positive experience of their first cup final.

The same goes with those involved in the game. McNamara is not a good loser and never will be. Same with players on both teams. Some handle themselves with dignity, others don't. You tend not to notice the ones on your side and focus on the others. It is the nature of the beast

Regarding Jackie's comments.  I like Jackie and like the way he structures a team, but he is a football snob, most of those spending the best part of their career as part of the 'Celtic family' tend to be that way.  He was clearly disappointed yesterday but his comments were a tad bitter...its a bit silly to be dominated for an hour of the match, and then complain about Saints 'spoiler' tactics, especially with Saints bouncing around with the cup in the background.......just make a fool of yersel in those circumstances!

I too was a bit disappointed by the exodus in the closing minutes, but heartened by the post on here regarding peoples experiences before and after the game.  The whole occasion was a terrific advert for Scottish football.
