I was brought up in a Stanmore Rd tenement and though a long way from there these days I’m thinking I could have been heard there this evening…awesome result by CD and the lads.

I think we as fans were, to an extent, guilty of what we often criticise England for, being over confident and over ambitious. In theory we did have a great chance to get beyond the group, and I do feel disappointed that maybe we didn't take that chance.
However, am I wrong in seeing qualifying for the first time in 22 years, and getting to the knockout stages for the first time ever, as a bit of a jump?
We're back on the scene, we now have a team with experience of playing in a tournament, let's build on that.
    Baby steps!

Maybe 10 pages of football reports in today’s Guardian...and mention of the Scottish Cup Final there is none other than in the classified results section. Not even a couple of lines.

You might think that this might upset the SFA and they might send in a formal complaint...but hey - I’m not holding my breath.

The block by Bryson was also part of it all but Booth was solid in those two challenges, been a great player in these huge games when you consider some of the players he has faced off against.

I held off posting yesterday, mainly because I’d had a few drinks, but also because I want to reflect on what we’ve just achieved. I know there are many St Johnstone fans out there who’ll write better than me, portray feelings better than me, have watched saints for far longer than me, but I’ll give it a shot.

Yesterday was the greatest moment in St Johnstone football clubs long history. We’d already been dubbed the second most successful team on the last decade, I’d wager pound for pound we’re the most successful team in Europe over the last decade! Every person to a man who’s involved in any way shape or form with this magnificent football club can say they’ve played their part in getting us there. Yes we’ve had ups and downs, but my god I wouldn’t trade places with any other fan.

This is a squad and club built on humble thoughts, hard work and an amazing ethic. Whether we play Kelty Hearts, Dunfermline, Clyde, Rangers or Hibs the players give the same 110% each time. The management gives them the tactical respect they deserve and whilst we may admire and respect many opposition teams and players, we don’t ever think they’re better than us. As fans we’re all the same. We go into every game expecting not to win, but secretly every one of us knows that right now this team isn’t going to let us down or go down without fighting tooth and nail. It makes you proud to be associated with this unbelievable football club, proud to wear the badge, proud to say you’re a fan of a diddy team. That’s something so many fans of big clubs around the world will never feel, when the world is against you and the team comes out swinging, the pride and emotion that it can generate is like nothing else.

I may not be from Perth, I’ve never lived there, or even particularly liked the place. But my god it will ever have a place in my heart for producing St Johnstone and playing home to them. I just hope all the players and people around the club know how badly we’d all want to be there celebrating with them. We may not be large in number, but we’ve got a hell of a voice. So I just hope that to a man, whether you’re a lapsed fan, a die hard, a newly found fan that when the time comes, that 20 man squad and their management team get the loudest reception McDiarmid Park has ever seen or heard, because by god we’ve all missed it, this season especially.  And I for one cannot wait to be surrounded by my fellow fans cheering this history making club on to further adventures and success.

We are St Johnstone Football Club and I don’t think anyone is going to forget that any time soon!

Booth wins a block tackle (up the left wing ) as another Hibee moves in.
Booth gets to his feet , wins another block tackle..
The ball reaches Spoony , who baffles his opponent,  before flighting a teasing cross to the back post.
Hibs golden boy , is outjumped , outfoxed , outmuscled ( delete as appropriate).
Saints golden boy , Shaun Rooney sends a bullet header into the rigging , with the Hibs keeper unable to move an inch of his gigantic frame towards the ball.
    Get in!!!

Hello Saints fans, sometime Perth resident and Stoke fan here, once again, to celebrate another fantastic achievement!
I wish I was still up there and able to join in the fun tonight for a quite superb season. Thankfully, the pubs are open again and you can celebrate in style!
I watched the final and, as an 'almost neutral', I can safely say that Saints thoroughly deserved the win and were by far the better and more attractive footballing side.
Two cups in one season, just fantastic. Delighted for my old town and the many Saints fans I used to know in the 90s back before three cups were safely in the trophy cabinet!

To be fair, Alan Stubbs today came across as the most balanced, unbiased pundit I've ever listened to. Considering his affiliation with the opposition he was full of praise for Saints, told it how it was. The only one in the room that saw Spoony was stamped on, couldn't pick a MOM cos every Saints player was outstanding.

After 10iaR bring rammed down our throats for the last decade, totally smothered by a Saints double!  Celebrate lads!  You are slowly catching up with the Dundee United’s of this world!

Yup we have

My mum - a Dunkeld lass.   Vaccinated me against OF-itis when a lad and gave me a booster jag every year.  Thanks to her I never developed the OF illness and was able to take her and my own lad to the 2014 final.  A joyous day for the three generations of Saintees, and on the 22nd she’ll be ‘looking down’ and cheering the lads on as me and my lad watch together - with her sitting between us in our hearts - and I’ll be wearing the scarf she wore that day.

Sadly in the same category as Dave Mc. Both Mum and Dad who were at the 2014 Cup Final have passed on. Have a cracking photo of them at Celtic Park with my Dad's arms round Mum beaming proudly.
I blame my dad for the infliction with Saints but no doubt he and Mum will be cheering them on in any way they can. It will be just as well the ref won't be able to hear Mum!

Me and you the same...62 and supported them since I was ten (well since forever) -  the years of stick I took as a lad growing up in Glasgow and the blank looks I’ve got since moving to south of England in 1984...brilliant just brillliant...I must stop pinching myself it’s starting to hurt...unreal.  What a great performance from the lads today. All round...but Spoony was class, Booth tireless, back three winning (almost) everything...great skills, teamwork and togetherness all over the pitch.

Not sure I'd go that far (Macca was probably the best I've seen in a Saints shirt at all of the above), but I was thinking yesterday that you can really see the impact of Macca's coaching on him this season. I don't think Kane's ever going to be a prolific goalscorer, but he seems to have become more streetwise this season. The way he annoys defenders, wins fouls, drags defenders away from his strike partner have all made him a really important part of our team. Might be imagining it but to me he looks like he's bulked up a bit this season as well.
Is he also benefitting from not having fans on his back? This season he's been able to just go out and play, and the pressure of being surrounded by fans has been lifted. I think the same could be true of Spoony, and possibly a few of our other players too. I think some teams (Celtic?) have gone backwards due to the lack of crowds, while for Saints it may actually have helped?

I thought Booth was superb and Wotherspoon had a comfort on the ball that reminded me of Jody at his best. For sheer effect on the match though it has to be Middleton who won't have done much for his chances of coming back here next season

Feel like like I'm saying this every couple of weeks at the moment, but that was just magnificent. Bloody incredible. I'm actually finding it difficult to fully process just how successful we've been this season, and how good we are at just winning.
It's only just hit me this morning how gutted I am not to be able to go to the final, or to properly celebrate in town afterwards if we win. 17th May 2014 was the best day of my life, and I want another one.
