  1. Was a really poor game today but that's sometimes how it goes. Saints have played so much better and lost so its great to get the points. Thought the ref and East Side linesman made some truly awful decisions and thankfully VAR meant the important ones went our way. Would like to see the replay but it never looked like a sending off. Took about 4 mins for ref to admit he made a mistake. Can't comment on the disallowed goal as I didn't get a good view. Just shows you what bad decisions can do to a game. Some very clear throw ins to Saints were missed completely but we wouldn't have done anything with them anyway. Playing with what looked like a back 8!! Saints failed to keep the ball or even press. Lots of unforced errors that a better team would have capitalised on. Matthews looks comfortable with ball at his feet and when kicking the ball which is a massive positive. The game was crying out for subs long before they were made and not impressed by the refusal to do anything when Saints badly needed to change and get another goal. The thing about VAR is that loads of controversial decisions but Saints will still only get 2 mins on Sportscene. Stevie May was the best player on the park and it shoes how much confidence plays a part in football.
  2. Back to hoofing the ball up the park for large parts of the game on Saturday. The artificial surface lends itself to playing the ball on the ground. Saints look okay when they string a few passes together.
  3. Hibs at Home, Id imagine we will be in red and white stripes. The combination of our purple kit and Livis two shades of yellow was something else at the weekend. Need a white kit next season.
  4. Quite confident there will be even less goals against the OF when this is in place but we don't really think of getting points from those games anyway so won't have that much of an impact on Saints. My hope is that its used for clear and obvious stuff like the Aberdeen goal last season when the ball was clearly brought under control with a hand. Hopefully the right decisions get made in games where there's not much in them but one team walks away with 3 points.
  5. That all sounds too sensible, I imagine its likely you're going to have a stadium full of angry supporters and managers swaying the decisions of what gets looked at.
  6. Tug on the shirt, already get the feeling that VAR could end up being a shambles here if that's an indication of the approach they are going to take. Almost every goal they probably could identify something and strike it off.
  7. A good move but should have been available from the start when these went on sale.
  8. I thought what she was actually meaning was that it would have been our biggest result against Celtic in about 6 years. It was her trying to defend Saints for celebrating the goal. I have a feeling we had a midweek draw against them a few years back but may be wrong on that one. Certainly feels like we haven't laid a glove on them in years so it would have been quite the result for recent times. The other pundits were saying the whole team shouldn't have been running to celebrate the goal and it may have caused lapse of concentration. It was a daft argument to be honest, just wanted to tell them all to settle down but it was quite funny how heated it got.
  9. Should have seen that out at 1-1. Had plenty of opportunity to shut down the attack and just didn't deal with it. The fact Saints came so close to getting a point shows you what a different side we have this season. It's maybe partly because Celtic not at their best just now but the game plan worked and was impressed Saints actually went for it in the last 10-15 mins.
  10. Played like that for quite a while now, Kane, May, Bair. One up front, never working, took them a while to figure it out.

    Zander

Thought Zander might get a game this weekend against Rangers with Gordon playing in the 3 Nations league games and probably should be on paternity leave now but doesn't seem that way. Gordon to play.
  12. Just so you know, not sure who the kids shorts are designed for, waist size is okay but legs are crazy wide on these Macron shorts.
  13. Is there anyone you know here that could order one and post it for you. They are lightweight and fold down to a tiny parcel. We have relatives in Australia and postage is expensive in both directions but shouldn't be costing $300 AUD. Probably could have got it to you for nearer £80 rather than £176.
  14. Another £5.95 to get delivered, bit rubbish isn't it. Ordered a home top a couple of weeks ago for my son and it arrived within a couple of days. Might be simple but it's the nicest home top for a while.
  15. Ajax have apparently recently sold 200m worth of players, no idea how much their squad "cost" to build in relation to Rangers but if their wage bill is the same then yes something not right there.
  16. Would expect next weekends game to be off as well. 10 days is the Sunday, funeral might be the Saturday.
  17. Watched both the Celtic and Rangers Champions League games as I was quite curious how they would both get on. It was very much like watching the Old Firm against a less well off club in the Scottish Premiership except the other way around and Rangers and Celtic were the club with the financial disadvantage. Of the 2, the way both teams performed was very much how you would expect from what we've seen this season. I thought Celtic played well but Real Madrid were absolutely clinical in the final third. It played out just like many SPL games we see every week.
  18. Will be interesting if we approach this game the same way as the St Mirren game. Kilmarnock are another team we should be playing with confidence against and getting more bodies in the box. I have no doubt that against Celtic etc we will approach it quite differently, maybe rightly so. Hopefully we will get some more points on the board before then.
  19. Not sure how they are going to introduce VAR at McDiarmid without having a big screen. Are all clubs getting big screens so the supporters know whats going on.
  20. 3 good goals today. Calm and quality finishes. Terrific to see. Pass that lead to penalty was fantastic.
  21. Easy to feel a lot more positive about the season after a result like today. You look at the teamsheet and some decent players in all areas of the park now. Still far too big of a squad, should definitely be putting players out on loan.
  22. I would be very shocked if May got moved on, just can't believe that would happen. Scored opener against ICT, scored last min in our only win of the season. Personally think he is played in the wrong position now.
  23. With the Champions League money Celtic and Rangers are getting the gulf in resources is only going to widen. Heavy defeats like this could unfortunately become quite normal. Perhaps 9 is more than most teams would lose but not surprising given recent bad results for United. Saints lost 7-0 in 2019 and 2022. This kind of result shouldn't be season defining. Brutal for goal difference and bad for morale but I predict many teams getting a 5, 6, 7 nil defeat this season again.
  24. Wasn't at the game but it sounded like Saints had a bit more of a go today and still lacking a striker that can regularly score. Commentators suggested Saints played okay. Still hearing a lot of biased commentary though on the radio with a lot favouritism today towards wanting Hearts to do well, not much different from when we play the old firm. Not once did they mention how important a point or a win would be to Saints, just what a massive win it would be for Hearts.
  25. Saints have been rubbish plenty of times over the years, not saying we should just accept it but I don't think defensively we've looked too bad but the lack of goal scoring threat is obvious to everyone. This is definitely not new either. It's been like that for about 7 seasons. Striker is notoriously the hardest position to fill at this level on a budget and it feels like we need 2. How we find even one 10+ goals a season striker beats me. Sadly Im not sure if we will find anyone and that's quite a depressing prospect. Goals win games otherwise we will lose or scrape a draw every week. Even if other teams are not much better we will lose by single goals.
