Graeme S got a reaction from garydavidson in An evening with……………..Paul Cherry
It's a spoiler, I know, but a great interview with Amy "Sellick" Canavan from 4 years ago - some great Saints stories in there.
I'd advise avoiding this if you plan to attend the evening. Having said that, I suspect I remember some Cher stories that he's forgotten about 😁 my ticket is bought.

Simo strikes me as being a listener, so any time spent in the company of the most successful manager in Saints history, must be a good thing.

I for one have not missed VAR this season. Going back to the very early discussions of VAR back in the 90s or 2000s, when it was simply referred to as "goal-line technology", it was a good idea in principle. When it was supposed to literally be a camera on the goal line to determine whether the ball crossed the line enough to constitute a goal. VAR is so far beyond goal-line technology that it has ripped the arse right out of the game. Makenzie's goal in the semi Vs Celtic being a prime example. Decisions like that, where the ref saw an incident and waved play on, only to be overruled by people watching the game remotely should have no place in the game. There are so, so many more examples of why VAR sucks, and they far outweigh the benefits of having it.

Graeme S got a reaction from Willie Peat in Winter transfer window and contract extensions 2025
Aye, I don't think we'll ever see a player at a club now who is there long enough to receive a testimonial. The game is all the worse for it in my opinion - without long serving players, I feel there is a lack of club identity and player identity with the fans.
Whilst I know it wasn't done for this reason, it's just as well we have names on the back of shirts now.
The days of being able to name next week's starting 11 five minutes after the current game finishes are gone.
I saw a documentary recently about continental agents - the quote "we'll sign a contract for five years but we'll be looking to move you on in two" shows the mentality and lack of "loyalty" if that's the right word, in the game today. Players (agents) seeking to safeguard themselves with a 5 year deal, signing a contract to do so, in the knowledge they do not intend to honour the terms of it.
Don't get me wrong, the days where the clubs "owned" the players were just as bad in the opposite direction, surely there must be a mid point?
Old man, good old days, things were better... etc etc rant over!

Its why the youth teams are so important. Generally bring through players with some form of bond with the club and it can help keep them here longer.
Even if they end up just being a squad player its more than worth having them break through and play a part.

Ye'll never be an Eric Nicholson SLF - your post HOF report is sorely lacking in detail.... 😂 and the word count is disappointingly low 🤣 🤷♀️

Graeme S reacted to blueheaven in Tommy Wright
I just found that interview a bit sad really. He obviously didn't entirely want to leave, but felt he ended up with no choice. I've always said Tommy was basically in a place where he could have been our Alex Ferguson - i.e. he could (and should) have had a job here for life. It's very rare to have someone like that at a club. Most clubs never have it, and it's highly likely we'll never have it again.
I still say that the club should have bent over backwards to make sure he was happy in his job. Had that happened, I've no doubt at all that we'd still be a comfortable Premiership club, perhaps not finishing top six every year, but still having good seasons with good cup runs and the occasional push for Europe. Perhaps he's not bitter about that not happening, but I know I am.

There should be a statue somewhere of Tommy booting Jackie MacNamara in the baws.
