Brian Easton doing a diving header at someone's feet was a highlight. Nice to see a referee give the key decisions in our favour. Hasn't happened for a while. Simon Lappin is a beautiful man

I wonder how many of the 1000 who travelled the 2000 miles plus to Lucerne will be making the 123 mile journey north..  It's not all about the "glamour " folks... Lets  get as many up there as we can. On the plus side it won't be  £8 for a beer.    COYS

Yes. This should always be the main aim at the start of the season. It has been the main aim in the past three years which has been the greatest era in our history. So no reason to change it.

I'm McDonald's biggest critic but he was good tonight, offered an option in the box, and seemed to be more forward with his passing. Nothing on Millar though, who was once again outstanding.

I'm convinced that tommy wright must be pumping Gary McDonald's wife, there must be a reason that Wright loves playing him, cause although McDonald had competition from David Clarkson for the unspeakably shite award, McDonald once again was dreadful

Just throwing this out there, but there seems to be an assumption this is all coming from the club, May not playing, no contract being signed etc. I wonder if it is the agent that has stirred this up and has basically said May isn't going to sign a new contract any more...or is asking for so much dosh the club can't afford it...hence the budget being blown away.

Whilst every player that played in the 120 mins was a credit to the club, There were a few standouts.
Scott Brown has such a drive about him that he strolls through games, he has showed that he can deal with the ball under pressure whilst facing himself against an excellent Luzern midfield. We didn't get to see his full range of oassing last night, he had to sit very deep and break up play, this was done very effectively and he gave great protection to the back four when Luzern broke on us.
Dave Mackay was our best defender by a long, long way. After the semi-catastrophic start that Frazer Wright had, it was down to cuptie to deal with the movement of the Luzern forwards. Mackay dealt with all kind of threats, high balls, through balls and blocking shots. To me he showed what an excellent footballer he is last night, and we are very lucky to have him and to have had him for five years.
Chris Millar. The beautiful man himself. The cliche "Big game player" was made for Midgey. He shows a consistency in the standard league matches, but lifts himself for the big games. Numerous examples of this. Motherwell at the end of the Lomas season, Trondheim, Aberdeen at Ibrox. And most definitely last night. The first hour he was on another planet. Strolling through the midfield but running himself into the ground in the process. He drifted into space in both flanks, allowing May to pose a threat centrally, his ball retention was outstanding, if there was a Luzern player steaming towards him (or Brown), they never looked worried. He was properly Scobbied at the end of the game and he deserves all the much deserved plaudits he will get from this game because although he can be frustrating at times, he is a consistent performer who gives his all every week and will never get as much praise as he deserves.

I don't want any of these players to leave ever. Every man is playing in the greatest era of our history and are heroes.

Very surprised by the general reaction on this thread. I'm in total agreement with RandomGuy.

Liam Craig isn't an old player. He is 27. There is no chance that he's suddenly deteriorated into a poor player in the space of one season. As I said before, Hibs have that effect on people. Likewise, David Wotherspoon hasn't just become a good player in one season. He has always possessed quality but couldn't find the platform to show it at Hibs.

We need a left-sided, left-footed player. Would Liam Craig be a regular starter? Who knows? Maybe not. I don't think any club in the world solely adopts that signing policy though. A strong squad is just as important as a strong team. Craig provides something which nobody else in our squad currently does. He is a physical, hard-working player who is dissimilar to our other wide options. He can also play in the centre and arguably do a better job there than McDonald or Millar. Most importantly, he provides a regular goalscoring threat which none of our other midfield options have been able to do thus far.

Before our Scottish Cup victory, not many former Saints players have gone down as club legends. However, Liam staked a serious claim to be considered as one of the few. I hope people aren't forgetting this. I'd love him to come back.

Some of the hate towards Liam Craig from saints fans is actually depressing, look back to the end of last season. How many important goals did he score? United at home in stoppage time to secure top six, United away to break our tannadice hoodoo and keep us in the fight for third, then against motherwell at home to help secure european football. Not just last season, Dunfermline in 2008/2009. The list goes on. Excuse the language, but there is no other way to put it. He gave ****ing everything for Saints and It is highly possible that we wouldn't be having this unbelievable period in our history if it wasn't for him. A midfielder who gets 8-10 goals a season is massive. If you don't want him back at saints you are strange.

Some poor memories on this thread. Put it this way, if I was to say to you:

"Here, Saints can have a left footed midfielder who scores 9 or 10 goals a season, can play left back, gives 100% every game, has a habit of scoring important goals and can play in central mid too...for free"

    Hands up who'd say no?
