Strawman got a reaction from Kyle in New poll: The Manager
I have the total fear we are heading to the play off position again the way we are going.
What seems to be the common ground at the minute is an older fan, either on here,Banter page or Pie and Bovril, coming in total support of manager and club in everything they do because they were at the 3-3 Rangers game in the 80s or the Dundee game in 60s which I just don’t get.
I m an older lad myself, started going mid to late 80s, first real success I remember was being on the pitch after beating Arbroath 4-0 and the players in main stand throwing champagne about, singing “ Ayr Ayr **** yer Ayr “ despite the fact we’d finished second to them, it was promotion from Scotlands bottom league at the time.
Right now though is the most unconnected with the club I ve ever felt. I think Callum’s a bit unlucky in that I probably don’t give him enough credit for the cup double, mainly cos I wasn’t there. Over last 30 odd years I ve probably missed less that 10 home games over that time and been at double figures away games every year too. I actually almost resent the double cup win, I ve been to Hampden so many times and still never seen us win there.
I don’t understand how anyone can be happy right now, a clueless manager who should have been gone by the time I got back to Perth after the Kelty game.
Football on the pitch that is eye watering bad, I don’t mind us getting beat but at least have a plan that you look like you have set up to try and win.
Zander must have been so low in confidence having not played in months at the Hearts game yet we gave him nothing to do early on.
A squad that is so big, biggest I can ever remember yet we have no idea our strongest team.
Then add in the Rangers cup game shitfest, even “ off the ball “ on radio where Stuart Cosgrove is normally the boards saviour was so damming of the situation. Some people may have been told the true reasons in a pub, it appears some contact was made with however they communicate with the young lads in FCU, what about just the normal fans though, we get to hear nothing.
I was briefly enjoying this season before the World Cup as we were ok to watch for a while, it’s back to the rubbish tactics of last year though and if we achieve 10th place it will be seen as success.
I hate the fact that, I live 10 mins walk from ground, will be free the night of Rangers game and can afford £30 but right now, won’t be there, will be first time ever I miss a game where I’m in the house and can hear the crowd noise. This obviously happened during Covid but no crowd. How have we managed to get to such a crappy place with how I feel about my club ?

Strawman reacted to crieffsaintandy in Saints v Dons (7/1/23)
Back to the same turgid crap of last season and the beginning of this season, the few good results in Oct/Nov glossed over the issues that hadn’t really gone away, Hibs game for example we were never scoring if they didn’t go to ten men…..
Davidson is clueless all us amateurs can see the issues, how the hell can he and his team not. As mentioned above just shoehorns his favourites in, Liam Gordon is not for this level, was carried by good players for a couple of seasons, but one of Cals main men.
His buddy agent biscuits saying won’t be anyone coming in to Saints in January and he is the man in the know as he tells Cal who to take! It’s a worry as we should be trying to ship out a lot of the deadwood and the ones that aren’t at it Gordon, O’Halloran Crawford……. the list is endless but oh wait Cal gave them long term deals!!

The silence from the board re the cup game and the outcry speaks volumes, they just don’t give a shit, they are looking for as much cash as possible to make their asset more saleable.
Final thought to another awful Saturday, if Davidson was your boss would he inspire you!

Strawman reacted to blueheaven in New poll: The Manager
What I find absolutely infuriating is that, before the World Cup, Davidson had actually managed to get us playing. Whether by luck or design he'd found a system that got the best out of Stevie May, worked with a relatively settled team and used players largely playing in their best positions. It was nothing fancy but it was working, the players seemed to have got a bit of confidence back and we were starting to look a bit more like old Saints again.
He has now completely destroyed that by reverting to a system that he surely must know doesn't work. We're leaving players on the bench who should be playing, picking guys who are off form, playing players out of position and we've gone back to forcing Stevie May to chug hopelessly around on his own up front again. And then there's the baffling stuff like suddenly starting Gallacher after not even picking him on the bench for weeks, and leaving Spoony on the bench despite being comfortably our best creative midfielder. I just find it impossible to see any logic in any of it.
This is exactly why I wasn't buying into any of the "Davidson's turned it around and proven us all wrong" stuff. This was always around the corner and the next thing looming for us is another relegation battle.
He should have gone after the Kelty game. When that didn't happen he should have left after the play-off win. We desperately, desperately needed a change for this season but instead we have an even more bloated, imbalanced squad that's going to be a massive job for someone to fix and he cannot be allowed to make even more mess during the current transfer window. He must go now.

I too can afford £30 but won’t be attending on principal, if my kids weren’t grown up and I was paying £20 for them as well it would be too much and there will be so many in that position.
Looking at my season ticket yesterday, Saints over the last few years have used the young lads in the East Stand so much for marketing purposes, promotional videos etc, this years Season ticket has a picture of the FCU section on it for goodness sake and the club are just giving this away. Football is tribal and parts of grounds mean things to people yet the club are willing to risk losing this connection for the sake of a few thousand pounds, which they aren’t in desperate need of, if the cub were in financial trouble I would understand but they aren’t. In fact chances are the people making these decisions likely won’t be here at end of the season.

The board must know what the fans feelings would be, of course they did, it’s why they put it out last minute on a Friday before New Year. A club that’s up for sale going into a live TV game with virtually no home fans isn’t going to be a good look.

I agree, I don’t believe there is a promotion Saints could do that would see us sell out our normal home areas for this match.
That doesn’t mean though that the correct thing to do is completely piss off the people who would go.
I have never understood the season ticket holders who don’t attend Old firm games, it’s their choice but as a season ticket holder these are games I want to be at, these are the games that mean the most when you get a result.
Fans don’t win matches, your right, I m not that convinced that we lower our chances of winning by giving Rangers 3 stands, they pretty much get 3 stands anyway. Dundee Utd fans will be on 3 sides of ground today as well.
Pretty much our entire support though is against the move for the cup game, that’s seems a strange thing for a board to want to do, go against your loyal fan base for the sake of a few thousand pound.

It feels like the club just couldn’t wait for an excuse to go back to this nonsense of giving the ground away.
I thought we d seen the end of it due to amount of season tickets we now had in East Stand but it no, first chance they get, back it comes along with ridiculous pricing.
Im getting annoyed seeing folk make excuses as well, maybe the police had a say, Rangers bullied them, I don’t believe any of that. It’s out Home game, we would have the bulk of the say, Rangers can’t make us increase prices. My understanding is it would go to the home teams normal league prices if the teams can’t agree. It’s our club who has chose to do this.
I don’t think I ll have missed being at a Scottish Cup match, home or away in the last 30 plus years, If I have I can’t think what it was other than the ones during Covid. I really want to go to this one as well, I can’t claim I can’t afford £30 cos I can.
At the minute though, I don’t think I ll go, there’s no other protest we can make really. I m not convinced emailing our displeasure will make any difference. There will be a series of phone calls made to some fans in an attempt to justify their position but that’s it. Then because the Saints support is low on the night ( which they ve caused) it will be claimed the decision was correct.
I don’t think they ve thought it all through, where in the main stand are they going to allow standing for example, it’s a sort of unwritten rule that standing will be allowed towards the score board end of the main stand. Where will this section be in the Main stand or will it be a free for all with folk standing in front of people wanting to sit ?
I ve asked before why the clubs can’t come out and say where standing will be tolerated and where it won’t, particularly at away games, it would be so much easier if people could buy a ticket knowing the expectation of the area they were in. I was told that as standing isn’t permitted anywhere they can’t do that though. If they can’t do that, how do they communicate for this game or like I said, will it be a free for all.

I see this mentioned now and again, like as a season ticket holder I should be grateful to be offered a discount to bring a friend. Am I the only one who doesn’t see the benefit of this ? My friends who I want to go with already have Season tickets around me anyway. Maybe I just don’t have enough friends maybe ?
I don’t know anyone who asked for money back after Covid, we keep paying but get no loyalty back the way.
The pricing for this game makes no sense to me, the board are leaving anyway, clubs up for sale, the extra 20k or so they ll make from this, is it worth the unrest they re causing ?

With the stadium being named after Bruce McDiarmid who donated the land it’s built on, we can’t change that.
I like the fact we ve never renamed it to a sponsors name as a result.
The main stand , a statue outside, any other gesture would be very appropriate. Would be amazing if done in Geoff Browns lifetime so he gets to see it happen,. Probably has to be fan led though, the last act of an owner isn’t going to be pay tribute to themselves and equally it’s perhaps not something a new owner is going to want to do either, look how great the guy before me was,  may be though, depends who new owners end up being.

The Browns will sell the majority shares to a new owner but I d love to see a small proportion go on sale to fans, maybe say 15/20% even . I think there would be an appetite for these to sell well. Maybe blocks of £500 or £1000. I m not a rich man but would love to invest £1000 in the club even for a very small holding if the opportunity was there.

Decent players yep against ten men, but if no sending off would have played all night without a goal. Long in short we need a new manager this guy is fcuking awful with his negative tactics, we won tonight despite him not because of him, bit like Motherwell beginning of the season.

Am I missing something here, this game was moved to the Friday as part of a trial to see the effect on crowds with different ko times, as was Dundee Utd v Aberdeen and possibly other games.
Does the fact they’ve reduced the prices not completely ruin the trial, I imagine the main reason it’s approaching a sellout is the price, not the fact it’s a Friday night.

We re discussing whether this season so far is an improvement on last but truth is both are poor.
Riight now I think we re a slightly better watch than we were most of last season but if results keep going my opinion on that will soon change.
We weren’t that good a watch under Tommy but I didn’t mind as we were getting results and I could buy into what the game plan was.
Most games this season I think we ve looked good until a goals scored, if we score then great, it’s gone on to be a decent performance ala  Utd away, St Mirren at home, If it’s a goal against us though, it’s like there’s no plan, it becomes a drudge , long ball after long ball, no midfield. Remi can kick a ball long more accurately then any of our defenders so we d be better going back to the brand of football I grew up watching in 80 s almost,  where nothings played short, everyone just runs up pitch to half way line and tries to win the ball from the long kick. While I m not entirely serious in this suggestion, it would at least mean there were bodies up there when it was played long. It’s not that much of a step back from what we re doing.
The last 20 mins against Celtic still give me a little hope though, they did get themselves back into that game and should have got a draw. Need to start performing like that against the Kilmarnocks and Livingstons.
Is Clark injured ? That said, if he hadn’t scored early in his debut I m not so sure of him, I can’t think of anything much he s done in other games and Stevie May has out performed him. Going from what I hear Clark is probably our most expensive signing in 20 years, not sure he s lived up to that.
