  1. firstly thanks for the comments - im sure the cooncil have spent your poll tax (or whatever they want to call it) well over the last few decades dropping the "D" from their name and corporate rebranding! Well theres only that and Xmas lights celebrities to spend the cash on. If the city centre is looking better now than it has in the last ten years - ive only ever been back to watch the footy or the odd night out - thank god i didnt move back earlier. South St looks like downtown Damascus.
  2. Having just moved back to perth, been away for the last 25odd years, the city centre is in a prettty dire state. Away from the High St its really grim looking. The traditional view of a town high street is long dead, the internet and retail parks killed that 20 years ago. and its been a slow lingering death for so many places, PKDC need to realise times have changed. City centres are only going to survive if they become social areas - specialty shops, pubs, cinemas, cafes etc Pedestrianise 4 blocks in every direction around the high street, and provide adequate public transport and car parks outwith All it needs is a bit of joined up thinking from the planners. Given the local produce and crafts, let alone its geographic position, people should be flocking to Perth.
  3. hiya dave. hiya pal! west coast meedja at it again. noone even asking whether a convicted tax dodger is fit for the job.
  4. definitiely the arcade version http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8299 Check out those graphics! May have been in Park Ave rather than the milk bar
  5. I thought it was Kickoff that was in the cocktail table?? And WC90 was a standup machine? I maybe wrong though - just off to redownload MAME and relive my youth
  6. Coal bunkers i believe. They do kind of look a bit like unburied anderson shelters, but IIRC prefabs werent built until the postwar
  7. without doubt there was a chance for saints to get 3rd this year. Equally there was just as much chance we could have ended up in the playoffs. once again weve finished above general expectations. Disappointing for some maybe, but in no way a disaster that the doom mongers would like to portray
  8. Its quite unbelievable some fans not only think we can become one of the biggest clubs in scotland, they somehow think we deserve it immediately! everything said in the above post by bh is spot on, realism for some is sometimes hard to take. and can somebody ask athens what a "tecadactrol" is?
  9. last minute league reconstruction, means anyone in the top 9 makes the playoffs
  10. the point is that saints as a top 6 spl team year in year out are far more likely to get the odd cup final or euro adventure. thats is overachieving for a team the size of saints. if anyone thinks with 2 or 3 signings we can win the title, they might as well think 4 or 5 wed win the CL
  11. id love to know where the massive influx of nonattending fans are coming from? we already have have a proportionate number of fans compared to even the biggest cities. there are after all a finitie number of football fans regardless of any success or quality of football. rather than us saying why didnt we beat killie, Killie fans might also be saying, remember when we used to pump wee teams like sjfc?!
  12. 3rd place this season and then tumble down the league because weve overspent, or solid league finishes every year? As much as id love to see saints one day qualify for the Champions league, id rather have guaranteed spl football every season. those bad old days of going to muirton in the 2nd division, have hopefully gone for good. fan base is everything these days in terms of finance, we're not a big club, will never be a big club, and have to accept limited success. im not saying there arent improvements that could be made. but long term realism must prevail
  13. a few years ago it was why arent we competing with hearts/hibs then it was why arent we challenging murrawell we've seen how that worked out! now its ict,,,yawn saints top 6 is an achievement - theres not enough of us to ever make a big difference moneywise. accept the fact and be happy we are already overachieving.
  14. top half finish? good season for saints. title was there to be won? dillusional.
  15. walcott v2.0 lots of running about very fast, nowt much else
  16. i trump you, andy towsend - in itself enough reasoning to believe the bbc is one of the better broadcasters. dont even get me started on Cammy who doesnt even watch the games hes supposed to be covering
  17. and with such a huge pot of money theyll leech more and more talent from not only scotland but around the world. theres been at least a couple of decent documentaries about how the feeder clubs for the big boys, snap up young africans get them eu passports and at ~20/21 kick them out onto the streets of belgium or poland if they havent made the grade. Big business has always treated labour as a disposable commodity, didnt think (or maybe just hoped) the beautiful game would go down this route
  18. done all of these in recent years, made no difference. as i said previously ive no problem with a top sportman earning millions per season, i do have issue with a journeyman or an unproven kid taking millions out of the football pot that could be better used to develop youth We all want to see better football, and the only way tht is going to happen is if kids gets better training and facilities
  19. ive no problem with someone being paid well if theyre producing results. if sterling was scoring 40 goals a season hed be due a bonus of arguably several million a year. As an average player in an average team ,100k a week basic, before appearance fees, goal bonus etc etc, is ridiculous If i ring 20 grand of sales thru a tesco till in a week, making the company 10 grand profit, would they pay me 5?
  20. it was rumoured ronaldo was closer to £1/2 mil a week! id argue there isnt a job on the planet that would warrant a wage of 10k a week. 10 times that for being an average footballer is as have previous posters said obscene
  21. hes turned down 100k a week, which he could have accepted now and still forced through a move to a bigger club in the summer if thats what he wanted. id say thats a young lad who wants to play at the highest level (and at the same time get a whopping pay rise to boot) If i was playing for liverpool and one of the big two of spanish footbll wanted to sign me, i wouldnt commit to anything
  22. Greek financial controls have worked so well in the recent past
  23. Tennets 6s were like watching the GA over 40s 5 a side at Bells. overaged, fat, immobile men?it was like watching an entire team of Roddy Grants
  24. egg chasing is only played professionally in about a dozen countries - its football 100 years ago IIRC didnt denmark win the euros despite not even qualifying?
  25. i dont think anyone would describe perth as beautiful. perthshire on the other hand, is there anywhere better on the planet?
