Am I right in thinking the caterers are Lindley Catering? If so, it's the same mob that does the catering at York, very poorly in my opinion, far too expensively and with scant regard for the customer - eg they can't wait to lock the shutters as soon as the players come out for the second half.
Their York contract is up for renewal this year, so the hungry masses have got their fingers crossed hoping for a better-priced alternative.
http://www.lindley-catering.co.uk/index.php?pageID=10 ...their Saints' link is devoid of the information given about the other venues' eating habits. Mind you, they managed to get City's nickname wrong, so it seems they're equally contemptuous of all their customers

The BBC are obviously still living the dream.
then again, if you click the link, you get a blank page

unfortunately York City have been relegated since then.
We'll be back.
...and perhaps worth a punt this season at 25/1

Daniel McBreen to York City

I don't know which is funnier, Sturrock's comments or Rangers getting bundled out of Europe.

"Scottsboro" a novel by Ellen Feldman.
It's a fictionalised account of the notorious Scottsboro Boys case of the 1930s when nine black youths were falsely accused and convicted of raping two white women.
It wasn't until 1976 that the last the nine was finally "pardoned", by which time they'd all been cruelly robbed of their health, their youth, their hope, and many many years of their lives.
The events are comparatively recent, but the book evokes another era of oppression, when the very idea of a black man being in with a chance of becoming president would have been impossible.
-
I'm liking that idea, but top of my wish list would be a curry pie.
In these days of Jamie Oliver's school dinners, Super Size Me and general healthy eating pressure, it surprises me a bit that you never hear football clubs getting criticised for their exclusively unhealthy menus. These are sports clubs after all. Still, a salad option doesn't stand a chance when there are curry pies knocking about.
I can't vouch for the truth of this, but I did hear that many years ago at Bootham Crescent, a hopeful vegetarian had presented himself at a catering kiosk and asked if there was a vegetarian option.
"We've got fruit gums," came the answer.
-
It's just exactly the same thing over and over again - a leering old bloke in a suit makes sexist remarks while some ridiculous villain attempts to take over the world.
Not another bloody Gretna thread, please.

I feel sorry for the small businesses who are owed money, they probably won't see a penny and may go bust themselves.
Employees of these small businesses are often the people who really suffer. A friend of mine told me his local bakery laid staff off when Leeds went into adminstration. It was "only" about £1500 out of the millions they owed, but for this little shop in the suburbs, it was very nearly the cause of them going out of business, whilst it cost some of the staff their livelihoods.

Wuss.
The new job on I start Monday involves me supervising others for the first time in about twenty years. Looks like the interview panel screwed up.

Turkey, because I got them in the office sweep; £16 riding on the outcome.
Also, you have to feel sorry for them missing out in the play-offs against Exeter and getting beat by Ebbsfleet in the FA Trophy final

I almost wish I hadn't looked because I almost feel a tinge of pity, reading some of the desperate attempts to convince themselves things may yet work out.
And then there are the cruel wind-ups...

Our steak and gravy pies (which are absolutely top notch) are about £1.20.
I can think of certain non-league grounds where £2.50 is the norm.
Magnificent chicken balti pies, but a scandalous price.

Whilst I'm pleased they've been shunted down to the Third Division (OK, delighted; I went to sleep laughing, and woke up laughing) it mystifies me how the SFL can accept a club with no owner, no players, no coaches, and no admin staff as likely members. When York City were in administration, we had to jump through endless hoops to retain our League membership (Yes, shame we went and gave it away again straight away...)
They should have kicked Gretna out altogether and named their replacements, giving them a half-decent chance of putting together a league squad instead of a junior one.

From Red&Blue http://www.yorkcityfc.com/
York Minstermen committee member Phil Howden compiled this quiz for our AGM - and taunted me mercilessly throughout with drunken text messages from the Ukraine. There are 48 points up for grabs - can you do better without searching for the answers on the internet? In fairness most people here might struggle a bit with the York City section, but see how you do. The winners of the quiz scored 38 points. Someone else, who shall remain nameless, scored a very creditable 27 (despite mis-hearing question 2 and saying it was East Fife
), when you consider that he was Billy No-team-mates for the evening.

It is vital that the prices are dropped. But as privatised companies the train operators are there to make a profit, so it isn't gonna happen.
What sticks in my throat is the fact that the government (ie we, through our taxes) are subsidising many of the train-operating companies with more money than when they were publicly-owned and operated.
I say, renationalise the lot, so the money goes into improving services (oh, and my wages
) and reducing fares, instead of straight into shareholders' pockets.

Don't know about blinking, but I've hardly stopped laughing since 9:30 last night.

I think I hope Man Utd win it, but I can't come up with any reason (not even a spurious one) to justify it and provoke an argument.
I think I'll paint a wall and watch it dry as an entertaining alternative to watching the game.

As a matter of interest what's the cost of basic items such as pies, burgers, hot dogs, tea, coffee, cola, etc? I'd be interested to see how they compare with what Lindley charge at York.
I raised the issue of their catering at a recent meeting between fans and club officials, and the club people mentioned that Lindley's contract is up for renewal, and also stated that in their experience Lindley are actually very responsive to customer complaints and comments.
We'll see.
In the meantime, I'll be the one stood at the back not drinking a cup of £1.60 coffee during York v Wrexham on the box tonight
