MySpazz reacted to garydavidson in St.Johnstone V Hearts - Wednesday 7th February
Maybe it is working:
Steven Naismith “And they’ve changed quite a few times in the systems they play and, actually, the way they’ve played in games recently. Against us, it might be different. We’ve got an idea of how they’ll play."

Aye, English non-league while a few steps down from leagues up here is still a far cry from a couple of coaches throwing cones down and welding their own goals.
Coaching in the UK at all levels, grassroots and up, has improved a lot.
What encourages me about Sibideh is he's made an impact after only 8 months. He's clearly better than the level he's been playing at. I'd me more hesitant if he'd been at that level for 2-3 years. Be interesting to here his backstory, getting into and staying in an academy is as much luck as talent. Maybe he's used past dissapointment to drive him on.
Whether top flight in Scotland is a few steps too far I guess we'll find out. But if a few English league 1 and 2 clubs were interested there may be a player there. We're definitely getting him at the right time. I'd be happy to bet he's ahead of the likes of Zach Rudden.

Let’s just hope he gets a chance to play instead of sitting in the stand on his backside

I'm quite excited by this signing. If you look at our available options, we're never going to go out and sign someone who's scoring 20+ goals at our level or equivalent. So if we go for other Premiership strikers we're stuck with the guys who we know only get three or four goals a season if they're very lucky (guys like Zak Rudden). Or we take a chance on someone from abroad but end up with someone like Theo Bair, who wasn't even scoring goals in the Norwegian lower leagues before he came to us.
This is someone who is actually banging in goals and playing with confidence, albeit at a much lower level. I hope we give him his chance to play quickly, and we're not going to handle him the way Callum Davidson would have: i.e. leave him sitting on the bench for months, getting rusty and losing confidence, while we coach his good bits out of him and try to make him play the same way every other failed striker has played here, spending all game chugging around hopelessly in our own half of the pitch. Just let him get out on the pitch and do his thing and let's see what he can do.

Should have clarified. They will have other profession's as well as the football wage. Which are often well paid.

They made exactly the same mistake as us but their manager did show a lot more promise then our last season.

This. It was always a fans thing that the clubs latched onto. In particular the management of our club who were well known to enjoy "perks" in the sunshine. Never noticed the Spanish board over in Scotland on a wet Wednesday in February, funny that.

MySpazz reacted to garydavidson in Levein's Report Card
There is an article on the BBC about Martindale which delves into Saints a wee bit:
"When St Johnstone sacked Steven MacLean last October after a miserable winless start, the first name mooted as a replacement was that of David Martindale.
Livi were already on 10 points and another season of unlikely survival looked likely. Martindale was doing what Martindale does; extracting more from his paltry budget than he had any right to.
St Johnstone instead went for Craig Levein and now have 21 points, 17 more than they did when MacLean was sacked.
Livingston now have 12."
It is hard to just consider those points though as County have two games in hand over us which could possibly change the outlook of the table.
Personally what matter is the things others have also pointed out, lack of players providing runs, lack of attention when the ball is in our box, inability to score. The things that could really increase our points and get us back to where we are used to.
The square pegs and rounds holes still seems to be an issue, so are we are again hoping we can push/survive to the summer with what we have rather than developing tactics with what we have? At the end of the day the points haul from where we were to where we are is a huge positive.

When County beat Livi on Tuesday we go second bottom.

It’s incredible we’re not cut adrift with Livingston. Worst St Johnstone team in probably 20 years is 4 points behind Dundee’s best team in 20 years. The standard of the league is shocking and it’s embarrassing we’re languishing were we are.

I guess we played a development fee unless Hearts weren't offering him a new contract?
Courier is saying Levein wants a striker next.

Nice that they have included an explanation for the Sunday rather than the Saturday: https://www.perthstjohnstonefc.co.uk/news/article/dens-park-visit
"There is a full card of SPFL Premiership fixtures the preceding midweek with both Saints and Dundee in action on the Wednesday evening hence the decision to play the fixture on the Sunday."
