  3. The bus has to be picked up and dropped off either at Linlithgow or Newtongrange. What I'm suggesting is we make Newbridge village the official leaving point, purely because after driving all that way, the last thing someone is going to want to do is head for Perth to drop people off and then come all the way back to Linlithgow. Sharing 3 cars and leaving them at Newbridge village will more than cover the Perth contingent. Provisional departure would be 1pm on Tuesday from Newbridge. Route planner suggests around 8 hours to The Tunnel. Take the midnight crossing which would have us in France before 1am. Route Planner has it as another 9 hours to Luzern. By the time we stop for some Croissants and Baguettes en-route we'd be arriving by Wednesday Lunchtime. I imagine there will be a few sore heads come Friday morning so I'm suggesting a 10-11am departure with the aim of getting the midnight crossing back (or round abouts). Should have everyone back home by Saturday 12pm at the latest. It's around 8 hours this side of the Channel and 9 on the otherside. With driver changes every 2-3 hours this will be easily manageable and everyone should be pretty well rested. I suggest travelling at night as the roads will be dead and I know If I'm driving on the wrong side of the road I'd prefer to do it with minimal traffic. You're reserve No.1 mate. We're only taking 15 as I luggage space is limited. I'm sure you'll get on though, not everyone is going to be up for it.

Chansey I have just received a final quote for the bus of £565 for 5 drivers, collision waver plus an additional £50 refundable deposit. I'll call them in the morning to ensure that covers overseas travel as there's no mention of it. I've also just realised my photocard has expired and I can't find my counterpart so someone else may have to make the actual booking. I'm not sure if I'll get a replacement from the DVLA within the next 3 weeks? Essentially we'll need £750 to cover the hire and the tunnel crossing. This means we need someone to make the booking. It will require 15x £50 from everyone wanting to go as we have to provide proof of our return channel crossing to the company at the time of booking. This also means we'll also have to decide which crossing we're going to aim for. Personally I think the midnight crossing on Tues night is the one to go for, alternatively there's a 6am crossing but we wouldn't get into Lucerne until late afternoon/early evening Wednesday which would be tougher on the drivers. Willing Drivers - I need to know when you passed your test. Only Pre-1997 license holders can legally drive overseas. Can I get confirmation ASAP from everyone who's name is listed? I'd like to have everyone's £50 deposit by Thurs/Fri to book everything by Sunday at the latest. We'll get someone well known and responsible to gather the deposits!   9. No I've not. Would definitely go for that. I'm not sure how they'd manage that for £1500 but get back in touch to confirm it. That's the same as it would cost to do it ourselves!

  11. Thank you Swissly Think we may cap the limit at 15 rather than 17 if the bus is going to be under £600. That way there is extra luggage/leg space.
  12. Scratch that. I think I might be able to get a similar bus for around £500-600 all in. Waiting on the company getting back to me.
  13. When getting my original quote I forgot to add additional drivers. They're £10 each per day. Breakdown of costs. 17 seat Minibus hire inclusive of 5 drivers, Vehicle Damage Waiver and Overseas cover from Tues 1200 - Sat 1700: £1115 Channel tunnel crossings at the minute all equate to around £50-70 each way if we can book soon and get advanced prices. These would be the only up from costs. I am going to shop around elsewhere to try and beat that quote. On the basis of 17 going, it will work out at £75 each up front for the costs mentioned above. This would probably need to be booked by Credit Card knowing car hire companies. Something I don't have. Tolls are around £50 obviously not payable in advance. I'm estimating fuel at being between £500-600 (25mpg works out at just over £500). If We set aside £750 between us for running costs and tolls that equates to another £45 each upon collection.   16. Can't get a bigger bus, 17 is the max you can manage on a car license. I think if we left Friday morning we'd be back approx 24 hours later. We'll be looking at piss/fuel stops only to do it as quick as possible. 2 nights accommodation could vary but that would be up to you to sort. I know there's a youth hostel, there will no doubt be B&B's there if you don't want the expense of a hotel and as my previous post says, you could always bring a tent!! Route planner has the journey taking 18hrs so 24 hours including stops is a safe bet.
  17. Driving over night i'd imagine. Easiest time to do it with empty roads. With a few drivers it'll be a doddle. I'm not going as far as arranging people's accommodation is Lucerne. That's DIY i'm afraid. Saying that, i'm sure there will be plenty camp of sites in the area!!

  20. Some of us have been having discussions on FB with regards to running a bus to this. I've looked into hiring a 17 seater minibus leaving on the Tues arriving Wed. It's around 2000 miles there and back. The cost is likely to be £130-150 per head. This will include a contingency kitty of £30-50pp (It actually costs out at nearer £100 but any extra will be used for additional fuel, insurance extras etc then returned to you upon our return) This is inclusive of tolls, fuel, channel crossing and vehicle hire. We'd ideally be aiming for either the midnight or 6am Wednesday tunnel crossing depending on when people can get together so ideally you'd need Tuesday off or half day. We would need a few willing and confident drivers. Ideally 5 which would equate to around a 3 hour stretch each. I have a few names down already. If you're interested pop down your name and if you're prepared to drive. It will obviously need to be done on a basis of first paid gets the seat. They're lucky supporters don't change teams in the way people will change supermarkets or car manufacturer etc etc. We are talking about a business that is over 100 years old and they can't even get the basics right when it comes to marketing. There is no excuse for it and selling tickets

  23. Mainstand. I would happily swap a player or two for an experienced staff to work in marketing and PR. Over the past two years we've had Beattie, Iwelumo, the boy from NZ and at least two more duffers signed at any one point. Let's not forget we still have significant funds in the bank. Finding £60-70k PA to employ two good capable staff members to work in these areas isn't mission impossible and they would pay for themselves in next to no time.
