  1. I actually thought it was a success, only thing missing was a goal to cheer. The attendance must have been good today as the East Stand looked quite full too. I think we should open the Ormond Stand for all home games. The stadium has a much better look with more than two stands open.
  2. I'm surprised at both the ticket allocation for the ground and the prices for admission. Why not give Saints fans the East & Ormond, give Rangers the normal away allocation and hold back the rest of the tickets for the Main Stand to assess ticket sales for both teams. The pricing structure will now guarantee a crowd of under 7000. A discount of £5 for season ticket holders would have been a nice gesture.
  3. Unless the admission costs are reduced to £10/£5 I think we will be looking at a crowd of around 5,000. Live on BBC this will not reflect well on St.Johnstone. I actually think the bigger the attendance the more the advantage is with us as our players will get a huge lift from playing in front of a full McDiarmid.
  4. It would be better for us to take the Ormond and East Stands and leave the Main and North stands for Rangers fans. I think we have a great chance of beating the **** again !
  5. James did well but played so deep that it caused problems for our midfield. Moon and Morris were left with a huge distance to cover in the middle of the park and both of them struggled to make an impact. Over all a point was a great result with two home games coming up. Other plus was the size of Saints crowd which must have been over 2000.
  6. Was the game in 78 when Derek O'Connor scored 3 ?
  7. Latest forecast is for 2 C and sunny from 1200 so game should be ok as long as they have paid their electricity bill for the undersoil heating !
  8. I used to enjoy a good chant of 'Hail ! Hail ! the saints are here' Used to be sung frequently pre McDiarmid.
  9. I think we should steal 'We'll be coming' from the Tartan Army after all Liverpool have ! Can you hear the noise of the Perth St.Johnstone boys We'll be coming down the road
  10. Another Wednesday night Hampden friendly anti climax! Gordon Smith wants to bring the best teams in the world to Hampden for friendly matches but it seems that the fans are not interested. The only friendly game which would attract a midweek sell out is against England.
  11. To be fair to Ginger Baker he is not forcing anyone's arm to join his crusade, nobody is being dragged to the Ormond Stand for the QOS game. He is trying to create an opportunity for like minded Saints fans to congregate together to create a better atmosphere and inspire the team to greater things. I take your point that some fans don't want to sing and enjoy a moan at the game, however surely there is enough room for both sets of supporters at McDiarmid/away games.
  12. To the anti Salmond brigade. Can you suggest a better alternative ?
  13. Unfortunately Perth is classed as a town and we miss out on funding and other rewards that Inverness and Stirling have received since receiving city status. I think the council is frightened to apply for city status because if we were unsuccessful we would have to accept we are the Fair Toon !
  14. Although I have been slightly critical of Swankie I think he will prove to be an excellent signing for us. However, yesterday we were against a stuffy 5 man midfield which is a tactic a lot of teams will use against us at McDiarmid Park. Hardie and Miller struggled at times against the three in the middle and the wide players have to tuck in to help out. Although Sheerin does this well, Swankie tends to stay out wide leaving us outnumbered in the middle of the park. Obviously we want to utilise Swankie's ability therefore at times we have to make sure we push one of the full backs on to help out in the midfield rather than sitting with a flat back four.
  15. I was very pleased with the performance today. An important 3 points, we battled well and deserved the victory. In the first half we struggled against their 5 man midfield. Swankie is a luxury we can't afford if he is not performing. I think Moon in the middle gives us a bit more drive and his main asset is that he is a box to box midfielder which is rare in the game today. Craig and Sheerin on the left hand side are a class act going forward although against better opposition Craig might struggle at left back. Hardie came onto a game although he still looks off the pace at times. Millar has been a great signing and Irvine looks solid at right back. Interesting to read that some doubt Holmes contribution, I think he's doing a great job for us up front. The champagne is on ice !
  16. I went for Ruti who was solid for 90 mins. His performances recently have been superb. Chris Millar had a great game today and covered every blade of grass. A little surprised at the amount of votes for Hardie. I actually thought he struggled in the first half and was off the pace.
  17. I think there is a better chance of GB/police opening the Ormond Stand. Also if Saints could reduce the admission to £10 for adults and free entry for u -16's for this game that should encourage a bigger crowd !
  18. I must have missed something but apart from his goal I thought Swankie was poor. He offers us nothing out wide, struggles to go past anyone and fails to deliver the ball into the box. At the moment he is a passenger in the team and has failed to impress.
  19. Interesting debate. I think the anthem was booed because a large number of Scottish supporters support independence and GSTQ represents British rule in Scotland. This constant drivel about being anti English/NI is wrong, if they both had their own anthems there wouldn't be a problem.
  20. My concern today was the poor delivery into the box from wide areas. On a number of occassions we got into good wide positions and failed to keep the ball in the park and when we knocked it up to our strikers both Milne and Holmes showed a lack of ability to hold onto the ball. The two goals conceded were mistakes and we rarely threatened their goal in the second half. The midfield seemed to lose control of the game in the second half but I think Jody Morris will make a difference when he returns from injury. On a positive note I thought James was excellent today with the trialist and Swankie showing good promise. Overall a draw was a fair result although if we turned up in the second half I think we would have won the game.
  21. It will cost more to watch this game for an adult & child (£24) than it did on Sunday (£20). That sums up the state of Scottish football at the moment.
  22. Apart from Grady scoring the goal that won the league for Gretna what is the issue with this guy. He was loving the attention he was getting at half-time. Calling him a paedophile is pathetic.
  23. Good point Saintkev. Perth has never produced players over the years compared to towns of similar size. For the last 30 yrs any sign of a west coast accent has had boys, amateurs and junior sides a goal down before the game starts. Perth youngsters have never had the same desire, devilment and self confidence that less affluent areas of Scotland seem to produce.
  24. Sheerin has been one of our most consistent performers this season. He always makes himself available for the ball and his touch is only matched by Stanic. When all the defenders are fit James will play with McCaffrey. Both McManus and especially Ruti's distribution from the back are poor. This is a bigger problem at home when teams sit back giving our defenders more time on the ball. Unfortunately at the moment we are unable to exploit this advantage.
  25. He looks a very good prospect but I feel he needs to establish himself as a first choice or he'll end up down the Montrose/Arbroath/Forfar route. I totally disagree with this burn out argument, Moon isn't 17/18 and needs to be playing every week.
