  1. Similarly, would Davidson trust HIMSELF to be first pick at left back as Sturrock did with him back in the day? Probs not!
  2. Fantastic all-round performance. I opted for May, but we were spoilt for choice. May getting a goal and an assist, Kane getting 2 goals and Mikey getting 2 assists is very re-assuring given that we have been lacking in the final third for the first few games of the season. Hopefully this will continue to be effective.
  3. Yes! Exactly what a Celtic supporting mate of mine was saying today, who incidentally, mentioned that a few fans are frustrated by the amount their players were getting sold for as it was felt they could have got more but are undervalued because they play in Scotland. A tad "have cake, eat cake" perhaps, but Everyone in Scotland is now a selling club.
  4. Sorry but this is all crap! 1) May was always going, his contract was ending that season, his agent instructed him not to sign a new one, so we cashed in. 2) We have been in the Premier League for the longest stretch of time I can remember (been supporting saints since 1995 when we were in the 1st division), we won 2 cups last season and have hit the top 6/Euro qualification several times in the last 10 years. We are the "Yo-yo" club that doesn't seem to yo-yo that much any more, save for in and out of the top 6. 3) Roddy is a director. Previously he was an associate director and before that a Lotto administrator. He's Saints through and through and a good ambassador for the club and is well respected in the game. 4) Sensible thing to do and has been done at many clubs over the years, including Saints. Back in the day Stewart Duff did a lot of the day-to-day running for Geoff. 5) Drey Wright couldn't agree a deal, we had no manager at the time but overall wasn't a huge loss even tho he was a decent player. 6) Stevie May's contract was held up by Rowan Vine being a t***. May punted Vine anyway and Saints got their man. This also kinda cancels out point one as we got the cash then got the player back. 7) Wallace Duffy has played about 15 times since joining Inverness. He has been no real loss. 8) I have never seen any solid evidence to show that Wright was sacked (see my last post from the Record article). "Off the record" claims can be little more than Chinese whispers. 9) Thanks to Brexit, work permits are a massive bugger for all professions. 10) "£1-£1.2mill with add-ons. Adds-ons take figure to £2m before sell on fees." Which is more than £1.75 million! Ali made it clear he wanted to leave. 11) Yes, loans are not ideal, but we have cover. We got a new midfielder because we just sold one plus Craig and Davidson have a combined age of 67. Striker is now here and training and we still have other defenders that are experienced. We can also still sign free agents outwith the window 12) Yes, and so will every other club. I'd hazard a guess here tho that now we have money from the sales of Kerr and McCann and the dust has settled on Europe and we can get fans back in bringing in much needed ££, Brown and Callum can start looking at budgets to get players on new deals. Steve Brown ain't no saint (pun fully intended!) and yes, not everything is perfect. I do think McCann could have gone for more. But we always balance the books, we still don't know what fun and game swill be thrown up by Covid, having has 1.5 years now without fans and I'd far rather have him and Roddy than Charles Green, Craig White, the Kelly Family, The Marrs, Di Stefano, Romanov or any of the other idiots that have ruined clubs in Scotland over the years.
  5. Here is an article of Tommy's actual words on leaving saints. Yes, it's the Daily Record but its at least 5% better than the Scum https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/tommy-wright-opens-up-st-21963044 "Sacking" or not, Wrights replacement has become our most successful manager ever in one season, so his departure was to our benefit.
  6. Don't seem to remember Rangers ever complaining about playing in the Tennants Scottish Cup or Skol Cup back in the days when they were sponsored by McEwan's Lager.
  7. It's the UK with the complicated relationship . Finland has been in the EU since 1995 and uses the Euro. Norway is the one that's not in the EU but in the EFTA, EEA and respects freedom of movement from EU Countries under Schengen.
  8. Depends on on the system, how it works and how they have chosen to organise things. They may have kept certain areas/stands aside for phone only sales then release them bit by bit for online as required, or it may just be a free for all. I'd imagine the ticket staff would have a slightly different system to the online one tho
  9. Awful bunch. I think it's safe to say that fans from any club in the UK that have had to play them in Europe before would have been rooting for us.
  10. Yes. And whenever someone looked to stand out it was all about how much they would be sold for and where to. Foster even trying to say 1-1 against 10 men would somehow be a bad result?!?!
  11. £3million + i'd say. Zander and McCann a shoe in for MoM. Zander also a shoe in for Scotland keeper. I thought Davidson was pretty good too.
  12. Excellent performance by the team. We were supposed to get "humped" tonight but yet a gain we fought well and got the result we deserved. They were nowhere near as good as many would expect. I think we can take them at home. Fosters commentary was properly rank tho. He still seems to have bad blood for getting the heave-ho a couple of years back.
  13. Richard Foster should be nowhere near a commentary microphone. He's awful
  14. From memory, this one was in 1997 on the day we were presented with the 1st Division trophy (possibly against St Midden?) after we had won the league by 19 points or something. I was in the Ormond stand (aged about 13). He completely floored 2 stewards and a cop I think and made it over the big gate into the car park, which is no mean feat. I seem to remember the PA announcer at the time saying something like "Substitution for St Johnstone: No 1 Alan Main for a Streaker" as Main stood pissing himself laughing at it, then made another announcement saying Tayside police were looking for a donation of a spare pair of trousers. I doubt an announcer would get away with that these days. I remember another one a couple of seasons later against Killie which was also a guy, but he didn't put up quite a fight against the security.

I always thought we missed a trick by not getting Durex to sponsor us. We could adopt the nickname of "The Johnnies". Great marketing opportunity on all sides!

See Wales at Euro 2016 and this year's too. Hadn't qualified for a tournament since 1958 before that. Some folk definitely got overhyped. But when you have the chance to get the best 3rd place on 4 points and go through , I'd hardly say that's false expectations or overconfidence. Especially when you have home advantage, one of the sides is one you are capable of beating and the other is your biggest rival where you will give 100% no matter what. I actually think part of the issue is Clarke and specifically the SFA were just happy to be there with little actual plan or aim other than, In the SFA's case, brow nosing UEFA.

To an extent, it worked against England. But he seems petrified to try anything different as it would mean leaving one out. There is no plan B in that sense. On the centre back front, he left out Liam Cooper after the Czech game, who had looked OK and has been good for Leeds.

I Actually think McInnes would do a good job as Scotland manager. Davidson hinted recently in an interview that he would do it in future. In my view, if we were to lose him to another team, I'd rather it was to Scotland and not one side of the Ugly Sisters or some crud team in the English Championship that would punt him if he didn't get promotion within 3 months. But I'd rather he stayed for a good while and won more with us.

YES! The McTominay in defence issue really really annoys me especially as he's regular with Man U in midfield. Its a waste of many players, both McTominay and the ones like Kerr that could be getting a chance.

Good points: we made a tournament, we had moments of decent performance (tho not against the Czechs) and we have some great young players that now have a taste of a major tournament which will hopefully spur them on to qualify for another one. Bad points: Steve Clarke lacks a plan B and even C. He also shows needless loyalty to players that underperform. Armstrong was honking tonight and O'Donnell wasn't much better. Should have been off at half-time. Marshall freezes to the spot too much as well. I could bang on about players that were not in the squad, particularly Saints players, but I actually think Griffiths would have made the difference tonight if he had been there and prepared to show up. But I'll be honest, I don't think Clarke is the best man for the job. Cant complain losing to the world cup finalists tho in a lot of ways. Croatia turned it up when they needed to, and Modric was amazing. Saints would have beaten them tho!

Was probably the best 0-0 I've ever seen. In fact, it's the only time I've seen a team (England) effectively get gubbed 0-0

Much better performance tonight by Scotland. Way more organised and gave England very little in the way of chances. I reckon Saints could have beaten England tho!
  23. Wouldn't it be great if the Cooncil, or ASDA or whoever owns it let it be covered in a Saints related mural? A wee nod to our former home on one half and a commemoration of the cup double on the other.

And particularly shite compared to Jason Kerr.....and Liam Gordon.
