    The SPL

100% agree. The SPL is a total joke and has esentialy failed to achive anyhting for scottish football. The recent posturing about Rangers being to big to fail shows the whole business model is a joke, and the leadership, especially from Doncaster has been non existant! It was better off as the SFL premier Division. Time to kick out the Jams!
  2. Just sent an email consisting of the below to the club. I have ben reading a few of the other letters and posts on here and its actually quite emotional seeing how strongly people feel about this. The club MUST listen to us! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Mr Brown I am writing to you, as I believe many others will be, in regards to the situation of Glasgow Rangers liquidation and potential re-emergence as a “Newco”. As a faithful supporter of St Johnstone FC I believe it is of up most importance that you are made fully aware of the feelings of the clubs fans in regards to this matter. Since March of 1995, when I attended my first ever Saints game aged 11 (a 1-1 dray with Ayr United) I have had a love for the club that has been unbreakable. Despite being from a non-footballing family, and many of my peers and friends at school at the time expressing their support for one side of the Old Firm or some randomly selected English Premiership side, my love of football has been based solely on this premises: St Johnstone or nothing. In my time as a Saints fan I have had the pleasure of experiencing many highs and lows. This has included a league cup final, 2 first division titles, a European excursion and the 7-2 stuffing of Dundee. Coupled with this, however, it has also included relegation, runs of poor results and mediocre performances and agonisingly missing out on promotion by a matter of minutes a few years back. Regardless of this however, I have always been proud to be a Saints fan, and in many ways the ups and downs of the club have helped me shape my perspective on life and make me the person I am today. In recent months, as I am sure you are fully aware, the situation regarding the financial troubles of Glasgow Rangers FC have been well documented across many sections of the media and footballing community in Scotland and the wider world. And after several months of their administration saga it has now become apparent that Her Majesties Revenue and Customs, the main creditor in the whole affair are to seek to liquidate that particular football club due to their failure to pay tax appropriately. Furthermore, as reported across many outlets of the media, they (HMRC) also wish to investigate the last 10 or so years of that clubs financial dealings, including its use of Employee Benefit Trusts (EBT's) to pay its players in order to get to the root cause of its financial corruption issues. Further to this, the particular soon to be former football club also failed to pay a catalogue of other debts, many of which included payments outstanding to other football teams, some of which are members of the Scottish league system, thus bringing the game even further into disrepute. In my own view it is in no way a good thing to see any club go under. However, Rangers cheated the system and as such have been made to pay for their behaviour through liquidation. I fully understandable that in such situations supporters of the affected club would wish to establish a new footballing entity in the vein of its predecessor , but in such circumstance I believe that it is only fair that any new entity that should replace the defunct Rangers FC should start from the the bottom of the league structure and work its way to the top. I can understand that due to the size and success of the defunct club that the temptation to allow a “Newco Rangers” to re-join the SPL ,albeit with some form of sanction, may be strong due to the financial benefit it may bring. However it is my belief, which is one shared by many other Saints fans as well as fans of other Scottish teams, that if this was to happen any ounce of sporting integrity or credibility that the Scottish league system has, would be in tatters. I also believe that the reputation of the clubs who would allow this to happen would also be greatly effected for the worse, and it would create a dangerous precedent for the game as a whole. I don’t believe the “Realpolitik” nature of the situation being pushed by some sections of the media and footballing community, where clubs would be biting the hand that feeds it if they vote no. There is strong evidence to suggest that the financial regime that was in place at Rangers allowed them to benefit at the cost of others, including the tax payer. It sickens me to think that whilst Saints were following a cautious and sensible financial regime, A model that both yourself and your father worked hard to establish, and at times had to defend from criticism when others were spending big, Rangers were handing out EBT's left, right and centre with the authorities being completely oblivious. It also sickens me to think that we should be held to ransom, along with other clubs with the false threat of financial oblivion if you don't vote yes to this “Newco”. If Rangers, new or old really are too big to fail then isn’t the whole structure of Scottish football, and especially the SPL a failure in its self? And if they are too big, are other smaller teams too small to care about? I can fully accept that Sottish football is about to go into uncharted waters and there may be some choppy times ahead. But please do not turn your back on the fans that have put blood, sweat, tears and money into the club and made it part of their life. Please take the time to consult with the fans of this great club on how we feel. Whilst I cant speak for all, I personally feel if a newco are allowed straight back into the SPL, I will have pretty much had it with Scottish football, and if St Johnstone vote in favour of this, it is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you I will not be back to watch Saints ever again. Therefore, as a supporter of Saints and a member of the Scottish footballing community I fully urge you to, regardless of any SPL proposed sanctions, VOTE NO TO THE NEWCO! If they want to start a fresh, they can start from the bottom and earn their place. Best Wishes
  3. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18407309 Looks like the CVA is gonna get rejected!
  4. YAAAASSSS! 2-1 final score! Get In! Serves the cheating Jambos right!
  5. More wonderfull news for the Ibrox Loyal: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/4154479/Gers-in-crisis-Player-deals-uncovered.html http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/4156168/SFA-probe-Rangers-after-pay-deal-expos.html
  6. this one is also good for a giggle! Short, but gets to the point!
  7. Things seem to be getting worse for them by the day. Looks like the "Small" tax case may be more than the initial £9million, possibly £15million. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-17146506 Coupled with the bigger one it ain't looking good for them. I am trying to find sympathy for them, but the only place i can find it is in the dictionary. Somewhere between the words Sh** and Syphilis.
  8. Difficult to choose as i thought all put in a good performance and gave 100% but opting for Enks. Killie seemed determined not to give up and his saves were crucial in the end. All in all a good show
  9. If my mind serves me correctly, i seem to remember Scotsport used to show 1st division highlights round-ups in those days so there is hopefully some footage out there somewhere. By far the greatest game i have ever seen saints play! Funniest moments of that day was Charnley being sent for an early bath. Also seem to remember there being only about 5 dundee fans left in the stadium to celebrate there second, so some of the saintees fans in the east stand helped them celebrate. The remaining 5 promptly left!:laugh:

    Union Strike

yip, and some private sector employees have had to take a pay cut!
  11. Correction, currently catering manager of Concerthall and theatre (sorry to be anal), but yeah, he's the new GM. Really nice guy and has a good mind for business, though by this appointment, the role will be 100% on the business/non-footballing side i.e. make as much money off the pitch as we can as he has no footballing background.
  12. seems to be rife of twitter at the mo. not seen anything official yet. Bit of an odd one
  13. and there was me arguing AGAINST a Hibee fan mate who was adamant saints would break their duck against hibs and possibly win! That'll teach me! Well done Saints! Hopefully this will be the start of a winning run for the rest of the season!
  14. Cheers 1884. It really is quite a mission they are on. The idea for cycling came from a conversation my cousin had with one of her freinds about the how cheap flying is these days, with my cousin saying "well, im just gonna cycle home when i leave Thailand". And so she is! And hopefully gonna raise a bucket load for sucicide prevention in the process!
  15. My Cousin Abi has just embarked on a charity cycle ride to raise money for the Scottish Association For Mental Health, her chosen charity as she lost 2 dear friends who committed suicide. Her journey will take her over 15000 kilometres from Chang Mai in northern Thailand, all the way back to her home town of Edinburgh, Covering a large part of Asia and Europe. A voyage of truly epic proportions for a great cause. If anyone would like to donate, you can do so here: http://www.justgiving.com/cycleinstead And for more information you can visit her website: http://www.cycleinstead.com/ Thank you fellow saintees.
  16. Much as this season has been a little disappointing, and the semi-final was a farce, i personally still have loads of faith in Del. We aint gonna go down, we had a decent cup run, and if we can pull the finger out, im positive we can battle for 7th or 8th and salvage some pride. Its time to stop whingeing and get behind the team. COME ON YOU SAINTS!!!!!
  17. yer right on that one. Lennon may be a bit of a fud but the whole thing is getting out of hand
  18. Word on the street he will be in town at the concert hall on 15th of june.
  19. not so much a song, but next time United are in town they should play the crime watch theme tune after they read out Badwillies name in the team line-ups.
  20. Goodwillie to Perth on a potential 6+ year deal. Sadly not to play for saints tho!
  21. and the winner is.............. Colin Samuel! nice one sammy!
  22. From memory, i'm sure in the PA it said that davidson was missing from the team photo as he was on call with the scotland under 21's the one with him in it looks very photo shopped!
  23. So long as players act with professionalism, it makes no difference to me who they support, as long as they give 100% for the team they are employed by. Allan Preston being a Hearts fan did not stop him scoring one of the best goals of his career against them in the league cup semi all those years ago
  24. Not greatly surprised by this one to be honest. Its been brewing up for a while now and by the sounds of Reid's war cries at the Celtic AGM i cant really blame them. At very least it may force the SFA to finally stand up and address the concerns of all involved rather than allowing the continuation of the Celtic self publicists to try and set the agenda by greeting at the slightest contentious decision that goes against them.
