I think it is really important that we criticise the management for their failings, and quite a lot of the time we are going to be speculating because none of us know what is going on behind the scene. But to suggest that Levein has deliberately put a player's health at risk is going too far.

3/10? That's harsh given where we are in the league. Appreciate it might not be entertaining, but the whole 'not losing' thing is probably what we should be giving credit for when you think about where we were when he took over.

This report on changes at Kilmarnock, not just in how they handle Old Firm ticket allocations but how they've grown their crowds in general, is really worth a read:

Surely there's got to be a few things Saints can learn from this?
Its not just about occasionally offering ticket incentives to a couple of games and then saying you've tried when it doesn't work. It's about growing your support across the board by looking at different demographics and changing the whole matchday culture for the long term. Saints always just look so short-sighted and lacking in ideas when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Appreciate that there are all sorts of contextual factors (eg size and location of stadiums) but has *any* Scottish club managed to deal with the visit of the Old Firm in such a way as their fans are happy? Genuine question - I really dont know - but if it works elsewhere, perhaps we could learn from them.
Personally, I no longer go to any OF games at McDiarmid as it is just so toxic and I dont want to be part of it. Shame because one of my fondest footballing memories was seeing Jim Weir score against Rangers - think that was probably my last OF game.

I really don't get the hatred for a manager who won two trophies. Whilst we're struggling with him as manager is ok to criticise, but surely enough time has passed now since he left to focus on his three seasons in charge rather than fixate on the last two.
His comment about 9th is clearly that finishing 9th is not a sackable offence. That's a fair comment and I wouldn't expect to see McLean sacked if we finish 9th this season. Claiming a guy who won two trophies and finished 6th had no ambition to do better than 9th is laughable. He might have been a one-season wonder, but when your one season was that good that should be the legacy he's remembered for.

I struggle to see Kane getting a better deal elsewhere - not that I know anything about the financial details on his contract - because I think he does a fantastic job for Saints but is totally underrated - so I just dont think that he is likely to be on another team's radar. I could see him drop a division in order to get more playing time. Will be interesting to see what Macca does when May, Clark and Kane are all fit.

But how often do we hear criticism from fans/journalists etc about 'those in charge' not being 'football men'? I think that being an ex-player/manager provides significant face-validity which boosts credibility, though of course you have to demonstrate that you can do the business side of things too.

I really wouldn't want to go back to Owen Coyle or Tommy - they've had their time. Would much rather it was a relative unknown, maybe not that experienced but ambitious and with new ideas, not someone who has already been round the houses of Scottish football management.

The complication here is that Lineker isn't a BBC employee - he is free-lance, so they dont have the same right to insist on certain behaviours in his private life or other employment.
I dont know why the Tories have made such a big deal out of this; they know full well that he doesn't have to follow the same BBC guidelines as BBC employees do (this has happened previously) so they should have just ignored his tweet in the same way as they ignore countless other critical tweets. Probably an ill-advised counter attack to the BBC Chair appointment controversy.

I don't necessarily agree with the club's decision but I can understand why they did it. Faced with the prospect of a half-empty stadium, they felt they might as well go 'all in' and hike the prices and sell as many tickets as possible to Rangers fans. However, I dont get why some are calling this 'greed'; is anyone going to personally profit from this? Given that Geoff has already said that he is donating proceeds from the sale to the community trust, I am satisfied that whoever made the decision, made it on the basis of what they felt was best for the club. I can also see that regardless of the profitability of the club at the moment, even £20k here and there will make a massive difference to the club's finances. Scottish football is a pretty marginal endeavour at the best of times.
I am also sure that whoever made the ticketing decision knew that this would upset season ticket holders and regular attendees - just look at the original statement where they apologised for the inconvenience and cited previous similar decisions to try and get fans on board. Clearly they underestimated the reaction of many Saints fans. Maybe they thought we would be used to this by now; maybe they thought that most fans wouldn't be bothered about missing this game. However, I get the sense that a lot of the outrage is about the increase in the price of tickets for a game that is being televised. And while Saints might have made a misstep in this instance, this is part of a much bigger problem in Scottish (probably UK) football, in that football is becoming less and less affordable. I dont know what the answer to that is because it is going to need a concerted effort from all clubs working together and I can't see that happening with the different ownership models (where providing profits to shareholders is the priority).
I do feel sorry for all involved in this - regular attendees and the club. I have no reason to think that the club didn't do this with the best of intentions, but they misjudged the reaction. Happens all the time when organisations are accused of being 'tone deaf' to their customers. Problem is that once they have made the decision, it's not one they can row back on.

    Afternoon all,
Today I've attempted to upgrade the forum software to the newest version. Unfortunately it failed - there appears to be some deep error that's occurred somewhere and I'm awaiting help from the software makers to resolve it - and its resulted in me having to restore the database that the forum runs off of to this morning's back up.
As such all posts between 9am and 3pm on November 30 have been lost.
Apologies for that. You may also see some instability over the next two or three days as I try to get to the bottom of this.

Dooj got a reaction from blueheaven in Plastic Pitches?
Just as a follow up, I found an article published this year that summarised all the studies that have looked at ACL injuries on grass versus artificial turf. The results showed that male players were not at increased risk of ACL injury on artificial turf, but that females were.
And in another article which interviewed professional players, while there were different opinions (depending on age, position, injury history), many held the view that artificial turf also affected "ball-surface interactions, game play, tactics/strategy, footwear selection, movement, and fatigue". Whether these are just perceptions or not is probably irrelevant; if players have these beliefs it is bound to affect the way they think about the game and their performance.

There have been some studies into it, but the results have been inconclusive. There's a pretty good summary of the various studies here: https://www.goal.com/en/news/do-artificial-football-pitches-cause-more-injuries-than-grass/1prtyjo6rv5jh13jpf7fvb0jfz

I really hope he doesn't rest Stevie. It's wonderful to see him back on form and the spark he has brought recently, has made such a difference. I am sure the opposition would be delighted if he wasn't in the starting lineup.

Dooj got a reaction from blueheaven in Players Wages
Out of interest, I was looking for info on Saints total wage bill and came across another site, Capology, which claims to have info on the salaries of 30K players around the world. It's a subscription service i.e. there are some free bits but you need to pay to get to some of its data and this is what they say about the figures:
"All salary figures are estimates as actual salaries may vary. Unverified players are calculated using algorithms, or sourced from reporting that has not been confirmed yet."
So, you're not paying to find out what a player is actually paid, but you are paying to find out what they estimate the player is getting paid! Looks like there is quite an industry to try and make out that there is accurate data available (for a price) but the bottom line is that no-one actually knows.

Wheres the critism? There was nothing really critical in there other than calling us baffoons with no real merit behind it. I'm obviously gonna defend our podcast as we put a shit load of work into it to provide something different for saints fans and make it different to 99% of other footballing shows out there. We literally put hours into it a week and work tirelessly to get guests on.

I always appreciate feedback but don't come at us without telling us why we are podcast baffoons?
