  1. Confused
    Melbourne Saint reacted to blueheaven in Dundee V St.Johnstone - Wednesday 1st December
    Just a few random thoughts after last night.
    If you look at the players who have started most games under CD and who he clearly trusts - Clark, Rooney, Gordon, McCart, Booth, Spoony, MOH and Kane, plus Kerr and McCann before they left - those players were all signed or brought through by Tommy Wright. Nearly all of Callum's additions, with the exception of perhaps Bryson, McNamara and Crawford, have struggled to hold down a place in the team. And most of them have been temporary signings.
    Inheriting Tommy Wright's team is probably as cushy a position as you can come into as a new manager. The squad already had the heart, the discipline, the organisation. CD really only had to tweak a few things to get them playing his way and inject a bit of freshness. I actually see a lot of similarities between this and when Sandy Clark took over from Paul Sturrock.
    But now we're in a situation where good players have left and not been replaced, others are getting too old to be relied on, and the squad basically hasn't been developed in a year and a half. We've also not brought through any of our own youngsters into the first team in quite some time.
    I'm not saying that's all CD's fault, by the way. I think a lot of what we're seeing now is the knock-on effect of the club's understandable reluctance to invest in the squad during lockdown. I'd say the club were right to have that cautious attitude at the time, but after being in a brilliant position to capitalise on last season's circumstances, we've stood still (and now gone backwards) and other clubs have overtaken us.
    Not strengthening ahead of the European games was criminal and has probably cost us a lot of money (not to mention incredible memories we could have had - which is surely what it's all about). Selling McCann for a pitiful fee on the last minute of the deadline with no adequate replacement in mind was arguably even worse. These things aren't CD's fault either and I think he resorts to loans because that's all his budget allows. Just because he's not complaining about the budget in the way Tommy Wright did, doesn't mean that problem has gone away.
    We desperately need the board to get behind Davidson in January and back him to strengthen properly and bring in the players he wants and make this his team. But can people honestly see the club pushing the boat out now, to tie down expensive longer term players when we may end up going down?

    I won tickets for game v County. I was originally giving them away on twitter however after a couple of people contacting me I have decided to give them to 2 people who were on the bus that went on fire. Can anyone tell me who were involved and would like the 2 tickets?

    That's an egregious stat to request;
    - that's going to take someone time to do;
    - whatever stat doesn't take into account  the team around him (i.e. injuries/suspensions). McCann made excellent runs, our current midfield is a mirage ; and
    - the quality of the opposition.

    Like this line up barr the centre of midfield which at the minute is a choice of a poor bunch. Bryson over Craig? Crawford if he realises that he has to track back & tackle? One thing for sure is that Solomon-Otabor has to start.

    Only the Steve fan boys and the gullible actually believe that nonsense. McCann was the final straw after the squad decreasing in the summer plus not strengthening before the Euro games, start of the league and first cup defence. The chairman's biscuit tin mentality probably cost us the £3m group stage money. Looks like some life changing amounts are easy to turn down after all.

    Viv the only bright point from tonight and he's only here for a few weeks to get fit. He got a cross in every time.
    Take it Eetu isn't match fit yet as there was no other reason to take him off.
    Rooney setting the goal up for them was ridiculous. Nice header up the air to them when I don't even think he needed to play it at all.
    I just cannot understand the abysmal passing. That's got sod all to do with anything other than the player in possession mucking up. It's remarkable just how bad we've become at it. There was one time they just sat back and let us play around with it knowing full well they'd get the ball given to them soon enough and that's exactly what happened. It's unreal.
    Callum needs to really change it and I mean really change it. Instead of swapping battering rams up front try something like Viv and Middleton on either side with Eetu in the middle. Two speed merchants and someone that might do something rather than one that wont.
    It's bad enough Dundee now being ahead of us but if County win they will be too thanks to them having scored 10 more goals than us!

    Stevie Grieve. Apparently a Saints fan (that shouldn't really matter tbh, I don't care who anyone supports as long as they're doing a job).
    This is what I found from SPFL site re loans. 6 in total, with a couple of slight limits:-
    MAXIMUM NUMBER OF LOAN PLAYERS AT ANY CLUB AT ANY ONE TIME INCREASED TO SIX...
    Following a recommendation from the Coronavirus Joint Response Regulation Sub-Group, the SPFL Board has approved new regulations regarding loans between SPFL clubs for the 2020/21 season.
    In summary, in relation to domestic loans an SPFL club is now permitted to have registered to it:
    (i) a maximum of 6 players on loan at any one time plus any approved emergency goalkeeper (increased from 4);
    (ii) a maximum of 2 players on loan at any one time from another club in the same SPFL division (increased from 1); and
    (iii) a maximum of 4 players on loan at any one time from another club in a different SPFL division (increased from 2).
    As it stands, unless we send players back in January, we've already hit our allocation. Dendoncker, Muller, Devine, Crawford, McPherson, Middleton.
    Interestingly, the limit on loans is "at any one time", so not a season cap of 6. We could, for example send a couple of loans back, and get another couple in.
    Which may be looked at if any of the 3 leave (Rooney, McCart, Clark), and/or the Irish guy signs.

    Oh god. I'm over all the "struggling to adapt to Scottish football".
    What in the world makes Scottish football so special that it requires 5 months of training to comprehend? You can learn Chinese quicker. I could build an IKEA wardrobe quicker.
    I'm f*cking over these "woke/PC/ millennial" b/s excuses- it sounds like the bollocks politicians say when something goes tits-up.
    Instead of actually stating what the problems are, just use a generic, all-encompasing, non-offensive to the LGBTQI community & snow flake statement. "Struggling to adapt."
    It's not rocket science. We play defensive, counter, use flanks, direct ball, forward press.
    It's physical. Run a lot. Put tackles in. Head the ball. Make diagonal runs. Overload flanks as required. Pretty straightforward.
    What exactly is the f*cking problem??? English? Who gives a f*CK. Half the players in the league don't understand shit.
    Just say it! Having trouble tracking back? Positional sense? Work rate? Attitude?Teamwork?Heading? Tackling? Gender queries?
    I'd fully support him (do anyway as want him to succeed) if CD just said... He's struggling tracking back/ pressing and we're working on it.
    Fine. No more smokey mirrors. No more fricking speculation about game time. It's only fair to Eetu & we'd understand.
    End of rant.

    I remember reading about the Muirton/Asda deal and how the one thing that Geoff insisted on was that Asda built the new stadium before he handed over the keys to the old one.
    It would be absolutely hilarious if they end up homeless. Having said that, I guarantee that the American owners plans are to force a ground-share at Tannadice long term.

    Can't see the maths in this based on the drawings I've seen- it's an expensive development being proposed, with a business park. Housing prices are pretty stagnant (at best) in Dundee. Drive through the technology hub & there's a lot of "office space for lease".
    They could do it if they "do a McDiarmid"- nothing flash, cheap build. But Dens is contaminated. It therefore requires mandated 50 years for cleansing.

    There's actually nothing surprising there. We desperately needed cover at the last minute after McCann. As for no-one else wanting him, well it could be because there wasn't budgets/space at other clubs?
    I think CD genuinely rates him. Wouldn't be surprised if we were going to make a move for him in the summer (or PCA) regardless.
    I don't think he's pish. His injury just after joining set him back and he's a young guy, will always be compared to McCann- unfairly. I like to think he'll learn his role & develop as a player.
