We’ve recorded two excellent wins in the past week or so – results which have put us in a pleasing position in the league table.
 
The performance at Firhill against Partick Thistle was excellent.  We controlled the game for long spells and scored two great goals including something of a rarity – a Steven MacLean goal from outside the penalty box!
 
Saturday’s home match against Hearts brought another welcome three points although I would be the first to acknowledge that we can play much better than we did.  With that in mind, it speaks volumes for the boys that we were able to grind out the win.

Zander Clark has rightly earned praise for his man of the match performance but the rest of the team defended like their lives depended on it and that all contributed to the points staying in Perth.  Having said that, and whilst acknowledging Hearts had plenty of good possession and scoring opportunities, we had the same number of shots on target as they did and crucially got the all-important goal with lovely build-up play.
 
I know bookings for simulation incurred by Graham Cummins and Chris Kane were post-match talking points but having now had the opportunity to view them I think they were both hard done by.
 
We now have a great cup tie to look forward to on Thursday when we head for Pittodrie and it’s going to take another great performance if we want to reach our third League Cup semi-final in four years.   Hopefully, as many of you as possible will be able to make the trip to the north east to cheer the boys on.
 
Finally, it would remiss of me not to mention Dave Mackay. I’ve known for a few weeks that this was on the cards  and I made my feelings on him known in last week’s announcement but I would just like to reiterate here again that he will be badly missed on and off the pitch and I am delighted that he will not be a stranger around the place.

BAROSSA CLUB -Will be open at 4-10pm on Thursday for those heading to Aberdeen Cup game AND open at 11 am this coming Sunday for those heading throught to Hamilton.

For a nil-nil game it was highly entertaining with Saints keeper dealing competently with a few long range powerful shots.
Some of the fouls and late challenges by the Hearts players were right out of the Robbie Nelson coaching manual and resulted in several yellow cards.
Despite that the Saints youngsters put on a good show against their bigger opponents, with McCawl, Jardine and McCann particularly impressive.
Alistair McCann who played in midfield, but who has played in the left back position, is surely a star in the making.

Just a suggestion but try and get as far up the stand as possible.  You'll get more of the stand joining in.  If you sit down the front or off to the bottom corner it'll end up just you lads singing

I can't understand anyone who was at the game can criticise Paton. Like everyone he made mistakes but along with Muzz he did his job to snuff out the Hearts midfield almost to perfection.

Decent prices set for this so hopefully get a good crowd. The group has their own bus going up so definitely some atmosphere  

Next up is a Thursday night trip up to the granite city to face Aberdeen in the LC quarter final. After Saturdays spirted and hard fought victory, the games dinnae get any easier. This one will be played to a finish which could easily mean a very late night ( not good for me as a very early riser but I will be travelling up anyway)  A decent £15 admission price has been set , which hopefully will add a few saintees to the travelling support. Buses running from both Barossa Street and McD and seats still available. The manager is urging as many of us as possible to get up there and cheer the lads on..
Team wise, Swanson should be back ( according to TW). No idea about Chris Millar as nothing seems to have been said at this point. Zander MUST keep the gloves after his last two clean sheets. Hopefully no new injuries from Saturday.
A great chance to secure yet another cup semi and the game is definitely winnable, although only if we  play up to our best.. and then, well who knows...
