This thread isn't really my place, but as a Pars fan, i've always considered St J to be a fairly similar sort of club as DAFC. A bit of a yoyo team with a few thousand hardcore fans based in a town plagued by Old Firm supporting morons.

Never a team who will win the league, but one which will take any cup final appearances or top six finish as a fairly significant achievement. The Pars did this back in the 2000's. But as we now know that was thanks to financial shenanigans. Now we are suffering for that.

St J in my mind are a team which has been run prudently and sensibly, and as an outsider looking in, it looks to me that you lot are living the dream. Consecutive top six finishes, a Scottish cup win, consecutive seasons in the 'Europapokal' and best of all, a trip to LU. Punching above your weight a bit, no? Why all the whinging?

You'll be cheaper buying it from a Kiosk or supermarket than buying it on the train though. A 2chf 500ml can from the shop will cost you 8chf on the train if I remember correctly.

Some information as I read some things. Just to prevent misunderstandings and problems for you guys:

    Most famous for whores:
Café Nizza and Cafe Bar Milano. Can't tell you how they are but these are the most famous ones ;-)

    For beer:
    - go to a supermarket like "Coop" and buy your stuff. This is the cheapest option to get alcohol. Otherwise there's a small shopping mall in the main station. There you can find a small shop called "Drinks of the world" with a lot of good local and international beer. It's a wee bit more expensive, but they really have a large number of different beers and alcohol.
My favourite local beers are: Eichhof Klosterbräu, Eichhof Braugold, Eichhof Barbara (headache included the next morning, but I like it), Eichhof Lager, Luzerner Bier, Baarer Bier (they've got different ones) and the Rathausbräu.

    - a good local (!) bar/pub: Rathausbrauerei. It's a nice restaurant at the banks of the river located next to the Pickwick's Pub and the big stairs which is heading into the old town. They brew their own beer which is pretty delicious in my opinion. You can even see the tanks in the restaurant where they produce the refreshing liquid.

    - Zone 5 is a good place and the local supporters pub. On Wednesday it's ok to go there and have some beer and Scots are warmly welcomed after the fan game. Since it is a pub run by supporters and volunteers the prices are a bit lower than in other pubs. But on matchday they normally don't let supporters of the opponent's team in. This is because of bad experiences and problems from earlier games. The community there is pretty open minded and easy going but there is still the risk of people getting pissed if there are opponent fans in their own pub on a matchday. Especially after drinking some beer. Another point is, that if there are loads of opponent fans in or around the Zone 5, police will increase their troups in this area which can lead to stupid reactions and problems. So no offence against you guys, it's just a matter of security. So if someone's coming on Thursday, just don't dress too obvious. I bet then it won't be any problem to be there.

    Local food:
There are some chocolate products like (Wassertürmli, Rägetröpfli, ...) which are local specialities. You'll find them in the pink Bachmann or in the Läderach stores.
A typical Luzern meal is "Luzerner Chügelipastetli". Just google it. :-D Otherwise just eat a Raclette, Fondue, a Roesti or other obvious Swiss meals if you're into it. Generally it isn't "haute cuisine" but proper food and pretty delicious.

    Some legal stuff:
Drinking in public is allowed but smoking is prohibited in restaurants and public buildings.
There's a new "hooligan law" in Switzerland which is applied since the beginning of this year. The police is allowed to kick you out of town for 24 hours if you behave rude or are too drunk. Especially with football fans they are a bit more strict. But I don't think that they'll do this to Scots, especially when you are just walking around in small groups. The new law was set up because of troubles with the different big Ultra groups and Hooligan firms of some clubs. In fact it doesn't change much and riots aren't prevented with these new regulations. Luzern lads will be easy going with you guys because there is just no rivalry with St. Johnstone.

A big "fan march / procession" now has to be approved in advance with the local police authorities. I don't know how they handle it with you Scottish guys, but big fan marches probably won't be allowed. So I think they'll provide free busses to get to the stadium together. Otherwise walking takes about 20 minutes, the train ride to the underground station next to the stadium takes 2 minutes.

Meeting point for you won't be in front of the station for sure. I think the police will provide a "protected zone" at the banks of the river. At least it was like this two years ago with the Genk lads.

There are some nice public swimming areas next to the camping area and on the other side of the lake. The weather is said to be nice and warm so you can go for a swim in the very clear and clean lake.

Oh and almost forgot. For the guys arriving on Tuesday and who are interested in athletics. The international athletics meeting "Spitzenleichtathletik Luzern" takes place on that evening. It is held just behind the football stadium. Asafa Powell is starting, so there's quality in the meeting. Just in case...

This is actually the worst thread I've ever seen on this forum. I am usually quite tolerant of other peoples opinions but I don't even want to see this nonsense. Please keep it to yourself. You are the most depressing thing about this close season.

£26 is indeed a horrendous price. Who do you lot think you are ;-)

I suppose if you sell the ground out it will be justified, but if there's large blocks of empty seats it will be a proper shame.

FCL are giving season ticket holders a free ticket to the game over here, and away fans have the cheapest tickets in the whole stadium.

oh no worries Broon, "i'm living with it"
    just giving my opinion.

its not a nightmare at all, we think it is because we are used to crowds of 3-4k, we get double that and everyone panics.

9500 is still 2k short. and the previous European crowd were made up of a lot of neutrals, we will not get as nearly as much of them coming along unless there is a cash gate on the night, hopefully there will be.

at 9 days notice making it all tic and charging £26 will diminish the crowd, I think we will be lucky to have 7k in the stadium.
but i'll live with that too.

I don't know FCL's policy for selling away tickets, but there will be a 'Tageskasse' on the day of the match selling tickets. It's unlikely to be a sell out so even if St J sell out their allocation for the away end, there will be spaces elsewhere.

Public transport here works like a dream. On match days the local bus company run a fleet of shuttle buses from outside the train station. Otherwise, bus #20 is the route which goes to the stadium, or if you want to get there quickly, there's an underground railway which takes a couple of minutes. Go to http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html and search from 'Luzern Bahnhof' to 'Luzern Allmend/Messe'.

If you're prepared to hold a Chairman accountable when a poor managerial appointment is made and the club suffers as a result, then they deserve credit when an obviously good managerial appointment is made and the club enjoys success as a result. Steve and Geoff Brown have been directly responsible for making these decisions over the last several years that have brought lots of successful times to the club. The very "football people" you talk about would not be able to do the job they do without the people in charge at the top.

Hibs are an excellent example of people running a football club who do not have a clue about football, and their recent relegation is testament to that.

Rail seats are a bloody nonsense. It's becoming a bit of a popular opinion that they are the future for teams in Scotland. Why not just have the traditional style of terrace?  Humans are perfectly adept at standing to view an event.
This is what we have at FCL:

We can stand there, on the concrete or metal steps and we can also consume beer in vast quantities. It's all perfectly safe and civilised.

No, i guess you've seen pics?  It was upgraded to glass walls after complaints from away fans. There is still a cage like fence at the front though.

You've clearly not grasped the concept here. What you need is to do is stick 5 Stars around the badge on yer shirts then, it doesn't matter if you've never won anything or, even if you are a new club playing in teir 3 or 4 in the league - you will get yer games televised.

    Hi,

After negotiating with licensing board and police we are hopeful of using our front car park as a fan zone before the home match. The application is now on a 7 day review so we will know for definite next Wednesday.
We plan an outdoor stage with MAD FERRET and THE KASBAH DJ's, catering and more tbc.
This is all on going in pre planning, but weather permitting, should be a cracking party. The club will be open to everyone that day. Plastic glasses will be used so you can freely use the bar and go to and from the car park. After the match we are open until 00.30 and the KASBAH DJ's will be spinning tunes in the hall.

More details as we get them

I think the number of seats in the away end is about 850 to 900, which would match into the UEFA rule that 5% of the stadium capacity must be given to the away fans normally. So don't worry about tickets, there will be plenty.
Generally there won't be a big crowd, I think a maximum of about 8000 as the Europa League in Switzerland still has a pretty bad reputation with occasional fans and gloryhunters. It's considered as the "losers cup" by them, but believe me for most of the season ticket holders the EL is a huge highlight. Then the game takes place in the second week of Luzern's big school summer break. Since at least every second family (my estimation ) is on holidays for the first two weeks of the summer break, there won't be as many families as usual.
BUT I don't really mind. Since we've got the big plastic bowl as our new stadium, the best ambiance was at the Genk game two years ago with only about 7000 fans. Second best in my eyes was at the deciding game against Thun when we qualified for this year's Europa League. So expect a small crowd in which every one can sing like 2 persons. :-D
I have to admit, I'm really getting excited and nervous already. So badly looking forward to the games.
