  1. Dear Mr. Starbuck, Once upon a time here in the UK our towns had a cafe on every corner which was owned and operated by a local family, often passing from father to son down the generations. Each cafe had its own decor, unique choice of home-cooked food, and a personal welcome for each of its customers. The staff who worked there were usually family members, and cared deeply about the business as it gave them their livelihood and in many cases their home too. The cafes earned money from their local community, and spent it with the other businesses in the neighbourhood, thereby ensuring a vibrant and diverse local small business community who thrived on the patronage each afforded the others. Now there's a coffee shop on every corner, and the independent family run cafes are almost extinct. At least half of these new coffee shops belong to you. With all the economies of scale that come from having a chain of outlets, and serving the same old stuff in each one, inevitably your model prevailed and put the little guys out of business. You then went on to jack the price point up to twice what it used to be before you killed off the competition. But, even that wasn't enough for you and your rapacious shareholders, we now find you've been dodging taxes too in order to gain further unfair leverage. Tell you what Mr. Starbucks, I'm not coming near any one of your shops ever again. No more overpriced muffins, or poncy £3.99 latte mocha, served by a non-English speaking immigrant to whom you pay minimum wage. I'll be drinking my coffee at home in future - you grubby, greedy, faceless, amoral corporate types have my permission to **** off back to where you came from. Regards, BC
