Radford 72 Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Another disappointing cup exit for Saints but who took your eye?
deej Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Jody. Always looking for the quick freekick, put himself about well.MacKay and Davidson did well, and a good solid debut for Doobs
101 Saint Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 No standouts today. Mackay was weaker on the left, Grainger was appalling, and the rest were humdrum. Irvine gets my vote for overcoming my sole criticism of his play, namely he can't play on a yellow card. He got a yellow card for making a brilliant tackle, very early on, and it made no difference to his committment throughout the game. Excellent performances like this and he'll be away in the summer. Sign him up now, Del!
saintj Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 really dont know, fil done well but was bypassed/quiet for large parts of the game. thought deuchar was ok, sheerin came on and done well, showed some passion and battling qualities. went for irvine, done well after being put under severe pressure from the stupid f**kin ref
CynicalSaintee Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Only Irvine or Doobs stood apart from the humdrum performances from the rest of the team.
soulfulsaint Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 McKay and Sheerin were the best two players for his control, vision and ability to flight a ball I'll go Paul Sheerin.

Sign him up now, Del! You have to be ****ing kidding me. Every single United attack - every single one - came down his side. He was caught under the ball every time. I was in the Main Stand today, so he was right in front of me the whole second half. He was constantly caught under the ball and completely indecisive about whether to close his man down or hang back and stop a through ball, meaning he was nowhere most of the time. His positioning was all over the place in the second half as well. Constantly in the wrong place - mainly being far too narrow and leaving his man in acres of space. I personally thought he regressed from his last two excellent performances, and United exploited that. He did, however, make one excellent interjection in the second half to block a good attack down the left. It is telling that two of Irvine's three votes have come from yourself and Cyncical101'slapdogSaintee. You laughed at my suggestion of Sheerin for MoM in the match thread - but it seems plenty more agree with me. He had a touch of class when he came on and changed the midfield much for the better. He gets my vote. Duberry looked a good acquisition as well - caused problems going forward and was composed at the back.
Perth-Saint Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 I thought it was a bad decision to bring on Sheerin today BUT I was wrong, he looked composed, offered some of his classy touches, looked almost more committed than some others and could have grabbed a goal right at end.....Sheerins my MOTM. Thought Duberry was half decent too. Grainger & Sheridan were dire.
Calinho Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 I thought Sheerin was good on the ball but pretty poor off it and was chasing shadows a bit. Still has something to offer though.

Given the general lack of intelligence, which is so prevelant on this board, I'd take no solace in numerical support.
McD Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Sheerin looked good for the time he was on. Would have used him to replace Morris rather than Davidson though. Still can't see where the goals are going to come from?
mainstand Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Sheerin tried like a bear when he came on and his play gave a massive 2 fingered salute to a certain member of this board who called him a waster last week. He gets my vote.

Are you trying to impose your values and ideals on others? Are you the salesman who promotes his product by rubbishing the competition? I don't know. I'm only asking questions.

I think basic intelligence is a pre-requesite for being taken seriously in life. This forum has a massive percentage of folk that have no idea about football, sporting instinct or managing people. When I read folk suggesting that I'm wrong because I'm in the minority, I have a wry smile across my coupon. For someone like Beatson to try that line confirms my belief that a few of our forum friends are on the "wind-up". Sheerin completed three of four passes in 20 odd minutes. Waste of a shirt, waste of a wage, waster.
nips Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 While Beatson maybe exaggerated a bit about EVERY attack going down our right hand side, I felt Irvine was torn a new one on numerous occassions today. To be fair though, the guy (Conway?) he was up against had a good game and I dont think any of our players would have done much better than Irvine. I'm struggling to pick a MoM today, Jody showed plenty of grit but was outclassed by Swanson and Bauben/Gomis, Doobs was solid enough but was a bit slack on a couple of occassions. Think I might have to go for no vote this week, as I this was the worst I've seen us play this season, with the exception of Killie at home.
nips Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Waste of a shirt, waste of a wage, waster. Speaking of a waste of a shirt - look no further than Mr Sheridan. He is absolute pish. And I am becoming ever more baffled about how Savo continues to get a game ahead of Peaso. I noticed he got 1 star in the PA for the Rangers game but I have no idea how - I just don't see what people like about him other than his work rate.
Jamie_Beatson Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Ok, I exaggerated for effect. To lay it out-uniteds most dangerous attacks came down irvine side. He wasn't god awful but he was not at his best but was nowhere near motm.

The only reason Sheerin looked any good was because the rest of our team failed to string three passes together!

Waste of a shirt, waste of a wage, waster. I could see where you were coming from last week Gordy, although your use of waster was questionable then too. This week you're simply wrong. I felt that by having him as the only midfield option on the bench McInnes was wasting a sub but when he came on I had to hold my hand up and say I was wrong. He freshened up the midfield, ran for the full 30 mins he was on, and I feel he stood up and said "Hang on, I'm not finished here, I can still play a part" and with effort and skill like todays I'll happily see him on the bench again. I felt Swankie would have been the best/only option for that spot on the bench but I doubt he would have tried as hard when he came on. If McInnes continually refuses to give Swankie a chance(admittedly a mistake in my view) then maybe he's the waste of a shirt or wage. Back on topic - MOM for me is Duberry. Came into an important role in a big cup tie amoungst a team of guys he barely knows and was pretty close to excellent in my view. If he and Irvine get a good understanding on the left we'll start losing a lot less goals down that channel.

He wasn't god awful but he was not at his best but was nowhere near motm. You are not only talking down one of our best players, you are being extremely disrespectful of their wingers who are excellent. I'm not sure where the root of the problem is. I guess I love Irvine and rate him very highly, therefore I rate players that skin him very highly indeed. Perhaps your logic was the converse; i.e. Irvine's keich, any old whore can skin him...
101 Saint Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 He freshened up the midfield, ran for the full 30 mins he was on, and I feel he stood up and said "Hang on, I'm not finished here, I can still play a part" and with effort and skill like todays I'll happily see him on the bench again. Aye, but it's relative. The midfield were poor and he only completed three or maybe four passes in the whole game. He has always had a great hunger and appetite but so too does, Murray "Forest Gump" Davidson - you surely can't justify his inclusion in the near future. Two decent game against Hearts doesn't make him worthy of a start. Swankie and Ando are both wasted not wasters.
Jamie_Beatson Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Sheerin will have been on the bench for his versatility. With five subs having swankie on the bench would have been a waste. That said, Sheridan was a waste. Conway played well-but often it was simply a case of lofting a ball behind irvine and running on to it-it was all too easy for him.

Waste of a shirt, waste of a wage, waster. He completed seven passes, weighted a ball deep into the box which led to one of our best goal scoring opportunities, had a half chance with a header and came nearer to scoring than most of the players who had played for 90 minutes. I don't mind you reservations about Paul Sheerin but using the word 'waster' is unfair, uncalled for and you are letting yourself down. It seems that you would rather cling to failed and unsustainable arguments than admit you might sometimes be over the top and wrong. Have some generosity of spirit Gordon, you chose the wrong word and now feel you have to defend the indefensible.
saintee4life Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Couldnt give a m o m today no stand outs. Sheerin showed composure and tried to play football, Dave didnt look comfortable but i put that down to who he played alongside. He was still competent
R.B.B:- Adz Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Grainger was appalling, and the rest were humdrum. Irvine gets my vote for overcoming my sole criticism of his play Grainger's laid back approach is infuriating. Irvine was more steady today but his distribution is still appalling. MacKay by a mile.
