A Referendum on Independence

Recommended Posts

My heart says yes let's cut our ties to the English and tear up that dratted Act of Union that the traitor James VI and his lackey Queensberry got us into.

My head says no, we'd get stuck with a large chunk of the national debt, have to adopt the euro and/or let London/Frankfrt set our interest rates. It would be like a South American banana republic with oil as the currency instead of bananas, and what would we do when all the oil runs oot?

Might not have to worry about the Euro looking at tonights news.

Salmond is a tosser in promising to deliver a referendum without/before having the authority to do so.

He will lose.

a master stroke if you ask me.

e***and's rulers tell us it is illegal, thus more Scots get hacked off with them telling us what we can do again.

more votes for YES.

Salmond knows what he is doing.

SCOTLAND WILL FLOURISH

Does a country not take a great chunk of income from taxation of the people? Can't see under 6 million people making education funds & infrastructure improve much. Forgot about all that oil we have tho,or not.

Luxemburg aint got much oil and are doing fine(same population as edinburgh). Also how many countrys that used to be a part of the great british empire asked to come back after independence? (none). Ireland has only been independant since the 1920s, they are now not doing to well, do they want back in ? no, why not ?

Infact there has been NO country that has gained independence that ever went back from it, why ?

Of course no country ever comes back. Or asks to come back. Would they be welcomed with open arms?? No.! Does Luxembourg have an income tax system? Bet it doesn't have as many spongers & jakeys draining the system.

Agree with your comments but is that not the whole point about independence.:?:

We get to decide how our money is allocated and how we spend it rather than being dictated to by westminster.

One thing guaranteed is that we will not be spending money on trips around the middle east fighting wars in an independent Scotland. I think the majority would all agree the money could be better spend improving our infrastructure, education system and health.

No politician can guarantee whether we would be better off financially or not but I would rather we had control of our destiny rather than trusting another country.

Trying really hard not to get involved in these conversations but:

Do you not envisage Scotland being part of NATO?

We do decide at present how the money is allocated, but we do not decide on the total money to allocate.

The Scottish Parliament don't at present have to bother about public sector, old age pensions, state benefits etc all that would have to be brought into the equation and administered.

An awful lot to be thought about in the coming years.

An independent Scotland would withdraw from NATO due to the SNP's anti-nuclear policy .

Personally I would rather have Edinburgh making decisions for me re pensions, benefits etc rather than London.

Agree there is a lot to debate over the next 30 months but it could deliver a brighter future for us all.

The thing is mainstand that is the view IMOP of somone looking after what he already has got. The thing is we have a young population who have nothing at present to hold on to and nothing to loose so as you say a lot to consider in the near future and all of sudden the Uk Prime minister is interested talking about Scotland so at least that is progress in my Opinion.

Also Looks like Salmond is as popular as the pope with the gers today:laugh:
