This is the vote for the We Are Perth Young Player of the Year 2011/12 award, which will be presented at the awards night at McDiarmid Park in early May, along with one for Player of the Year (which will be based on the standings in the weekly Man of the Match awards), and the Retro World Footie Shirts Goal of the Season, which will come from the winner of a final poll of the all the monthly best goal winners.

Was going to post this next week some time but with the likelihood that the trophies will need sorted out a bit sooner because of the change of date of the awards night, thought we may as well just get on with it. This poll is scheduled to run until near enough the end of the month, the final date will be announced in due course. That of course means you don't need to dive in if you have any doubt over who to cast your vote for.

As with last season the award will go to a player who was eligible to fill an U21 spot on the bench this season.

The following players are up for consideration:

Liam Caddis (Midfielder) – Although not involved at first team level for Saints this term, Caddis has again been involved with Scotland at U19 level and has spent much of the season on loan at Arbroath, where he could yet claim a Second Division winners medal. The 18-year-old has appeared nearly twenty times for the Red Lichties, claiming a couple of goals into the bargain.

Stevie May (Forward) – Last season’s winner and hard to miss with his hairstyle more akin to Brian May, the Newburgh man scored a couple of goals for Saints during the pre-season campaign and appeared from the bench at Pittodrie on the opening day of the season. Unfortunately the form of Sheridan, Sandaza and Haber limited his opportunities and one of manager Steve Lomas’ first actions was to send the 19-year-old out on loan. His destination was Recreation Park, Alloa and his impact has been huge, with seventeen goals in just eighteen appearances for the Wasps. Yesterday he grabbed four goals as Paul Hartley’s side clinched the Third Division title.

Zander Clark (Goalkeeper) – Retained at the expense of Scotland U19 cap Neil Duffy last summer, Clark was handed a short-term contract in the hope that a loan move could be fixed up. Elgin City were the obliging club and although his stay in the Highlands was initially scheduled to last only until the new year, a string of impressive performances saw that arrangement extended, netting the goalkeeper a new contract with Saints into the bargain. Although no stranger to a red card his term, the 19-year-old has record seven clean sheets and featured in the Ramsdens Cup victory over Ross County.

Ricky McIntosh (Midfielder) –Although still waiting for his first team debut, McIntosh has been a key player for the U19s in what is his fourth season at that level. With thirteen goals from just eighteen games, the midfielder can claim nearly half of the total scored by a Saints side who look on course to finish seventh of eighth in their league.

Mark Durnan (Defender) - Like McIntosh still waiting for his Saints debut, the imposing centre back has added to last season’s loan spell at Arbroath with temporary switches to firstly Stranraer and currently Elgin City. Both sides look on course for the play-offs, so Durnan could well find his season extending well into May and the CV could soon include a promotion from the Third Division.

James Keatings (Forward) – Signed on loan from Celtic in January, the Saints support have seen very little of the diminutive forward, who was a prolific goalscorer at U19 level for Celtic and has represented Scotland at various youth levels.

Kudus Oyenuga (Forward) – Another loan recruit during the January window, Oyenuga made his SPL debut at Celtic Park last weekend, following on from a brief Scottish Cup appearance against Hearts in February. A regular goalscorer in bounce games and also on the scoresheet for the U19s a couple of weeks ago, the 19-year-old could yet feature before the season’s end, pleasing the cult following he has quickly picked up.

Heard really good things about McIntosh but sadly not as much coverage as May has had. Makes for a difficult decision as it could be argued that McIntosh has done more for Saints this season than May.

Only just found out young ricky is being released after nearly 5 years at the cliub, strange decision!!!!!!!

As he is one of the best young players in the squad.

Am sure mate, spoke to him and a few of the other lads after the rangers game at stirling.

Don't know the lad. Is there an attitude problem or has something happened that has resulted in his being released??

Very strange .I thought he was one for the future & goal scoring midfielders are hard to come by.

Saints have had very few goals from midfield this season.Liam hasn`t scored many.millar even fewer than last season & Muzz should have scored more. Croft probably the best.
