dave mc
Where is Steve may? No mention of him in the first two games May was with the squad , but had full tracksuit on,so don't think he was stripped.Cregg impressed in the Jody role, but was a bit more positive and mobile imo.Higgins showed enough first half in that he's got a good football brain and touch.Muzz,Nigel and Liam all decent too. Doing laps of the track so i think we can assume he is carrying a injury.
ex-montrosesaintee
Higgins sounds like he's grabbing an opportunity to impress lomas. Any striker will do if they can score goals and show some proper grit and determination to impress. I'd like to think lomas is the kind of guy who would be prepared to forgive past underachievement if the attitude is right. Encouraged? Or false hope? Jamie_Beatson
May came on and played on the right for the last 15 minutes or so. Thought Tehoue was very impressive in his short stint - scored with his first touch, was unfortunate not to get a second and put himself about well. Hasselbaink was excellent and most of our good play went through him before he was subbed.
Jiangsu Sainty
How short was his short stint? Given how poorly he is rated in England I would say he needs to produce over a couple of trial games to have a chance at a contract
Jamie_Beatson
Maybe 20-25 minutes? He was very, very alert as soon as he came on and latched on to a short back pass to round the keeper and slot home - one touch to take the ball past the keeper and a second to roll it in. He was quick on to it and it was a good finish. A few minutes later Kevin Moon played an outstanding through ball on to his equally good run and he smashed a shot past the keeper but off the post, which Brett Williams converted. He also had another couple of good moments - once showing good strength in the air to easily outjump their biggest centre half and another skinning his man only to be brought down heavily. Good start - would like to see him again.
qwerty
cregg played well , gave the ball away a couple of times but apart from that he looked solid hasselbaink was very impressive with pace and skill tahoe was great after all his stick i thought he had great pace for a big guy first thing was to knock over a defender second thing was a goal hit the post as well which williams got on the rebound of
PerthSaints_1884
Mannus - Only really troubled once. Millar - Thought he was superb at right back first half, looked a threat going forward second. Wright - Solid enough against a poor East Fife frontline, decision making at times could be questioned, two or three passes at the back that you you just don't attempt. Adams - Slotted in well at centre back, dominant in the air and looked rather composed on the ball. C. Davidson - Consistency again the key, never put under any real pressure. Craig - Very comfortable out on the left, nice link up play at times coming inside off the wing. M. Davidson - Dominant in the middle of the park both on the ground and in the air. Kept possession well however, personally felt he went back a few times when the forward pass was on. Cregg - Impressed, always looking to get on the ball, movement was very good constantly dragging players and creating space, couple of stray passes but nothing to complain about. Hasslebaink - Different class in my eyes, man of the match for me. Great burst of pace with the ball constantly looking as if it is clued to his foot. Hold up play was terrific and netted a tidy finish to round off a great performance. Tade - Strong, powerful and willing to run the channels. Looked very dangerous in the early stages, can see him being a real handful for most defences. Higgins - Always looking for the ball in to feet to link up play and bring others in to the game, textbook finish at the backpost.
The ghost of Jim Morton
Decent run out. Some good performances especially Chris G'day Millar. What a right back:D Hard to judge against lower league opposition but we looked half decent for this early in the season. Trialists all looked ok and the big lad with the tight shorts and the big thighs had the ladies around me quivering. The dirty stop-outs. Great support and lovely to hear the announcer wish Saints all the best for the coming season.
Cagey
Good to see Lomas trying Adams at centre back. Always thought he could at least be cover in that position if we had injuries & suspentions. Should be good in the air & being a midfielder ,his distribution should be better than most. Strange playing Chris Millar at right back when we signed a new RB.
ryangordon86
I'd agree with the above. Was an unusual pre-season game as the game was played with real intensity. Obviously as we have the Euro tie coming up. Tade offered something different and was always looking to run off the shoulder of the last defender Hasselbaink showed great strength and pace to get down the line repeatedly and send some really teasing balls into the box. Cregg fitted in well, gave possession away a few times but it is pre-season. Was surprisingly impressed by Mr Di Canio's pal. Looked far more assured than Williams in their time on the park. He must have scored with his first touch and then not long after made a superb run followed by a low, powerful shot which rebounded off the post. Williams was left with a gift of an open goal to tap into. Potential cult hero type character. May has doubled in size. By the time he came on we'd made so many subs that the game had lost a bit of shape and fluency.
sconesjfc
Cregg was surprisingly good and on tonights performance could fill Jodys spot. FYI - just seen the first 2 goals on sky sports news!
Jiangsu Sainty
I wasn't at the game today, but based on people's reports I'm in love with jimmy-nigel hasselbaink
HOODLUM65
Yes, agree with most of what's been said. Don't forget Mooner who looked for the ball when he came on and was excellent in his link up play . Through ball which someone mentioned, which ultimately led to a goal after rebounding from the post was of the " Sliderule " variety . Forwards were very lively. Mannus was untroubled with only one parry of a mention .
bankfoot saint
Was at the game tonight thought the front three in the first half were impressive hasselbank a right handful ,tade great movement and skill, higgins took his goal well and linked up well with the others ,miller at right back looked good but improved going back into midfield in the second ,was'nt impressed with cregg seemed to get the ball and put his head down could'nt seem to see hasselbank wide right when he was wide open, gary miller was impressive when he moved to left back some of his crosses were brilliant ,mooner came on and with adams giving us some cover from the middle allowed mooner to get foward ,the two trialists stikers who came on to be honest did'nt impress much but showed some good but a few to many bad touches. SaintinReading
How did Williams get on? I believe he scored the 4th. On the little that you have seen do you think he will remain at Saints or will he be returned to Reading?
ex-montrosesaintee
Pre-season has been good so far. I recall last year playing lots of players, and really not gelling as a team at all, albeit with individual good performances. Goals breed confidence and team spirit. 8 goals in two games, 6 different goal scorers, 2 clean sheets, can only be a positive, regardless of the opposition. If we played E Fife in a Scottish cup tie and came away with a 4-0 win and no threat of a goal from them we'd be delighted. 'mon the Europa league. On the little that you have seen do you think he will remain at Saints or will he be returned to Reading? His touch didnt look great and he didn't show anything of real note. Realistically he couldn't miss, he tapped in Tehoue's rebound. His fitness was clearly well behind everyone else's so maybe unfair to judge. That said so probably would be Tehoue's and he looked better in most departments
