Coltrane Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 A point at Motherwell...I'll take it...well done Saints!! Quote
ajs Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Discipline worries me, i dont think saints had had a man sent off before Lomas took over, then we had three in quickish succesion (Mackay at hearts, Sheridan At Killie and sandaza against united) Two sending offs (for whatever they may be for) in two games isnt really acceptable imo. Decent point considering the (what the radio was making out) onslaught by Motherwell after they equalised. Mannus showing his worth perhaps? Who will be our penalty taker now? Quote
Jiangsu Sainty Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Decent point indeed, just a shame thinking about what might have been. Hopefully Aberdeen will be a good chance for us to play a game with 11 men! I think I heard McGinn got injured today, will help us if he doesn;t feature Quote
ANDY5565 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 in the next few weeks and maybe for the rest of the season.. we will find it hard to take the lead and maintain it....we will see more of Saints trailing and not leading...we will be thankful for draws, home or away Quote
saintj Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Before the game a point is decent but it's disappointing to take a point after being in such a commanding position. 2 points dropped Quote
ANDY5565 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 starting Vine for the second half whilst under a yellow,ok....we go 1 up and a half hour to go....was a hi probability risk he would be sent off and we loose our lead S.L. you fuqued up and you know it, do not do that again Quote
Brian Potter Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Getting sent off on your debut is pretty shocking whatever way you look at it! The player has to take responsibility for his actions, if you've been booked already don't get booked again! Quote
ANDY5565 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 true, but the gaffer has to take his responsibilities too for lack of foresight Well down 1 nil at home only 10 men and an half hour to go tactical sense says get Saints striker with the yellow card sent off if Vine was taken off before we could of tighten our defense wich seemed to be already solid, they could only score by peno Quote
St Mikey Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Crap Result. We had the points won. Missed chances to bury it. Fortuitous goal by Well but we should have won. Lomas needs to protect his players. Vine should've been subbed and why MacKay taking penalties!?! Thought Craig was 1st choice. Is he pulling rank already?? That's 8 or 9 without a win in the league now. Quote

THE REBEL SAINT Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 That's 8 or 9 without a win in the league now. Ithink its 11 games without a win i could be wrong!!! 2 points dropped Quote

SaintGraeme39 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Would have taken the result before the game but being one man up for so long and having numerous chances it felt like a defeat after the game. Think we counted 5 good chances when it was 1-0 but just couldnt take them, and in the end we were lucky to escape with a point after an excellent save from mannus and a mad scramble in our area which could easily have been converted. Myself and fans around were calling for lomas to take vine off with 20 minutes to go as he was looking a tad knackered but he decided to wait and in the end cost us a point, very disappointed! Quote
SaintGraeme39 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 On a sidenote, chris millar played very well today but we will probably still get the moaners on here saying he could have done more!! Quote
garydavidson Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Chris Millar was superb but no doubt he would have missed if he had not been pulled down for the penalty. Most definitely 2 points dropped by Saints and Lomas. First half was dire 451 just sitting letting them come on to us - we are going to lose a lot of goals this season from the games I have seen we just back off and back off. Superb going forward but need to be ruthless. We should have had a penalty when Nige was pulling for a shot at goal and was chopped down. Brines was actually good for 30 minutes but I think that will be him for the season. 442 next week and lets get stuck into Aberdeen. Quote
dave mc Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Very out of sorts first half where we looked the side just back from Europe.'Well constantly getting out wide especially our right and having the extra man.A much improved performance second half, and at 1-0 we really had enough chances to kill the game off,but over elaborated at times.I would've taken a point at half time, but we probably should have won over the 90 minutes.Still a decent point,i actually thought Vine was doing fine when he was sent off, creating nice wee flicks and lay offs. Quote
ajs Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 So next week up front we have Higgins, May, Hasslebaink, Beattie. Who do we pick from those 4, definitely Hasslebaink but Beattie is unfit, May, Meh, Higgins, he is about the size of hasslebaink. Quote

He has Higgins on the touchline ready to come on. It wasn't a gamble to start him in the second half, god you dont sub a player at half time just because he has a yellow card. I don't think the second booking for Vine would have been given if there had been 11v11, far from adirty challenge.. Quote
DBay Saint Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Chris Millar was superb, covered every blade of grass and was the drive in midfield. Tactics of 1 up front is crap and invites teams on to us which Motherwell did time after time. Lomas should have made the changes a lot sooner - against 10 men who got horsed on Thursday night was crying out for 2 strikers with fresh legs to have a real go at ther defence. I'm not convinced on Cregg as last week and today he was invisible. Early days I know but Lomas had better turn it round soon as this run without a win is concerning..... Quote

BAM Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 God that feels like a heavy defeat. First half neither side looked like scoring, second it looked like our midfield was given more of a licence to attack. Pen was definitely the right choice but we should have had one before that. Very puzzled to see McKay take it and it was pretty poor, a good height for a keeper and pretty straight. Thought we responded well, goal was deserved, and we were coasting, had several chances not taken. Can't help but feel Nigel doesn't use his pace enough, numerous times he got the ball in space and instead of running at and past a defender he just trotted up to them and held the ball up waiting on support. The sending off was criminal on 2 counts. First of all Vine should have been off long before he was sent off. He wasn't playing great, was clearly knackered and had already been booked! If Danny Lennon takes Steven Thompson off coz he had already been booked, why can't Lomas. For a while, Lomas has shown to be slow to use his substitutes and today it really cost us. But for an experienced pro like Vine, knowing he had already been booked, it was a crazy challenge in a nowhere position - the posed no threat!!! In end we had Mannus to that's for keeping us it in. Thought Miller and Anderson were fantastic, Craig didn't do a lot wrong and Murray won so much in midfield. Cregg was nowhere - totally annonymous. He has brought nothing in 2 games - time to give Jamie Adams a run in that position. Quote

Thought rowans challenge was due to tiredness but his tackle for the first yellow was terrible at best, was worried if the red would come out! Quote
templeofsaints Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Thought it was a really good game but feels like 2 points dropped. Vine rightly sent off for 2 poor challenges but as everyone has said he should have been subbed before that - looked knackered. Mackays Pen was poor but there were plenty of positives to take out of the game. Nigel is going to cause defences a lot of problems and Vine looked good before he went off. Big plus for me though was the form of both Millar and Liam in the middle of the park with the former easily our best player. Reasonably upbeat tonight (especially since I'd have probably settled for a point before kick-off). Bring on the sheep.... Quote
