Overseas St Johnstone fans drawn together by the Scottish Cup final experience are creating their own supporters club - and backing the team from foreign parts.

Supporters were lured back to Scotland from all over the world for the historic win over Dundee United on May 17.

And now steps have been taken to formalise backing for Tommy Wright and his cup heroes.

John Murdoch, aka Athens Saint on the Weareperth forum, explained: “The overseas fans have always been there - we just needed an excuse to get together and thanks to Tommy and his team we did.

And boy what a get together it was!

“I met many exiles over the Cup Final weekend and have made new friends because of that and our contact on the WAP Forum.

“In fact, I already have had a couple from Perth visit me in Athens on their way to the Greek Islands since then.”

To set the balling rolling, the Saints exiles have agreed to sponsor the match ball for Steven Anderson’s testimonial game next month against Hearts and momney is flowing in to meet the £300 target.

“Collectively we are sponsoring Ando’s testimonial match ball.

“The testimonial committee granted us the first opportunity for match ball sponsorship and we have heard that Ando is well chuffed with the overseas ‘glory hunters’ supporting him.”

“Us exiles maybe got a bit more publicity than we deserved over the cup final visit and our hats go off to the week in and week out diehard who we very much admire and keep us informed.

“But the enthusiasim to remain as a collective group was overwhelming.

“There are no large donors, just a pledge from many, many Saints fans from all over the globe to donate something back to St Johnstone. If we can break the £300 target for Ando’s testimonial, our next project is buying a WAP Exiles flag so we have a presence at every home game.”

A St Johnstone spokesman welcomed news of an exiles fan club saying: “There was an incredible response to the cup final from fans all over the world and it is fantastic to see them following the club from afar - adding their weight to our many fans closer to home.”

Sir Larkness, how much to get ball in a glass case and how much to get top in glass frame. Does Barossa have a trophy cabinet ? Maybe Ormonds for the shirt ?? Barossa for the Ball ?? or we raffle and get the money in to the young lads development fund. Will see what the 'glory hunters' are keen on ?? PC Murdoch

A true 'expat glory hunter' piece, I love it! Get your picture on there next time though with a 'cool liquor drink' in hand, a lassie on each arm, sun tan lotion dripping off your nose as you recline on the bulwarks of your motor yacht.
