What Price Stevie May

Price and value are different. Price would be anything over £1 million. Value probably £5 million with £20 million buy out clause. If he ever decides to further his career what ever we sell for, will be no where near is hero status and we fans will feel short changed.

It'll depend on whether he signs a new contract. If he rejects it, Saints bargaining power is dramatically lowered. Hope he signs a new deal and stays for another year.

Agreed. If he signs, then 1.5m, if not 750k-1m would be accepted in this window.

However, either is under valuing him. Clubs down south know that they can pay peanuts for out best players. Part of me wants saints to say 2m take it or leave it and stick to their guns, even if it means only getting a development fee in 12 months, but then a club like saints isn't really in a position to do that.

What is this obsession with selling Stevie?

He has only played one full season for Saints and it appears everybody including the Chairman wants to sell him - why?

He was pivotal in a very successful season - has probably generated more than his projected transfer fee in one season for the club (cup runs/cup winner's money and league position bonus) - if Peterborough had come up with the money he would have probably gone for a reported £300k - that would have been a good deal

What is his speculated £1m transfer fee actually going to do for the club? - Saints do not appear to be in financial trouble and assuming Saints want to have some sort of continuing success, then we are going to have to replace him - at what price? or are we going to do the same with the likes of Chris Kane (if he is as successful).

Above all Stevie has reportedly never asked for a transfer, wants to play for the club, is a local hero and all Saints appear to want to do is cash in on him ASAP.

Give him an acceptable 3 year contract - he's worth it - and if he does move on Saints will still benefit.

FFS let's have some ambition - tell the world Stevie is NOT for sale - he has a job to do and wants to do, at the club

Rant over

No doubt this will generate the usual, - stop moaning - we won a cup - we are a family club - etc nonsense

Rotheram and Peterborough were both trying it on with their paltry offers for Stevie. It would have been unthinkable had he left for either of those two and as you say, what cost to replace him. I'd like nothing more than to see May offered a 2 or 3 year contract and with the younger players like Kane and Brown in the squad the future looks promising.

If you think he deserves a better contract, then you should volunteer to pay for it.... ;)

Don't disagree with any if your points. No, in an ideal world, we wouldn't want to sell him, but as soon as a few clubs start sniffing around him, the reality is that he will go. I personally don't want to sell him.

Totally agree that he generated more than the 300k we might have got for him at the start of the season.

Not sure what saints would do with say 1m though. I'd imagine it will be banked and like the Callum Davidson money, kept for a rainy day and benifiting from the interest. Certainly it won't be spent on players.

I would however like to see any money re invested in the youth scheme. That is clearly the way forward.

Nothing less than £2 million up front with future sell-ons built in.

Can't understand why not because if he had been an old firm player you would not even start at that.

But he's not an Old Firm player. If he played for Barca he'd probably be worth £5m at least. But he doesn't. He playes for a small club (in the grand scheme of things) with little opportunity to radically change their income without selling players and has one year left on his contract.
