I couldn't pay £500 or anything like that but would pay for a pre-ordered book, even if it was months away from publishing, and would imagine quite a few saints fans would do the same. If 1000 folk paid £15 or whatever up front then it's a goer....

It is quite common now for authors and musicians to get money up front from readers/fans etc to allow them to write & publish/record & issue new material and in exchange their backers receive early signed copies.

why don't they do a proper crowdfunding scheme, where we can all pledge the amount the book will cost?  I'm sure they'd get more than enough folk signing up.

Right. 10x the number of folk pledging 50 quid each seems must more doable. Maybe Alastair and Brian aren't aware of kickstarter/indiegogo.

Brain said to me on twitter they are considering pre orders if they can't raise the finance the route they have mapped out just now.

Those crowd surfing sites take a decent cut from most projects.

Can use a crowd funding model without having to use one of the sites surely. Anyone with the ability to write a list and collect money could do crowd funding.

"Bristling With Possibilities" is the much-loved official history of St. Johnstone Football Club between the years 1885-1997. Authors Alastair Blair and Brian Doyle are in the process of updating the long since sold out original version which will encompass the 17 years since the book was published- with a particular focus on the historic Scottish Cup Final win back on May 17th.

Alastair said: "The intention is to have it ready for Christmas so all the fans who experienced that fantastic day in May can relive it and also discover the fascinating history of the best club in the world."

We would encourage any fans interested in buying the updated version of this book to let club historian Brian Doyle know by emailing him here: doylebrian77@icloud.com

There is no obligation to buy the book when emailing Brian as it is merely to gauge potential demand once it is published."
