Uncompetitive League

Who'd have thought Celtic would be in sight of the chasing pack at Christmas but the Championship would be over as a competition?

The chance of both Edinburgh teams coming back up is looming large. I do hope that such an outcome would finish The Rangers for good.

At the moment it's impossible to see Rangers winning a play-off game, let alone getting through to meet the 2nd bottom team. The only real interest is in how many teams can overtake now.

Once they make all these signings in January they will run away with the league. They are being linked with Athletico Madrids Cristian Rodriguez. Oh wait they don`t have any money.

You almost wish you had a ringside seat!? I wouldn't fret though I am sure if they don't go 'bust' again there will be league reconstruction!? Still in the meantime it's great to see them suffer?! Not a nice quality on my part, however for all their bullish arrogance it's great to see them humbled

Have said for years that the playing each other 4 times a year makes our leagues look even more uncompetitive than they really are.

In most seasons a team finishing 2nd or 3rd behind the former old firm would have most likely lost 3-4 times to them each. 16+ team league and that may just be 1-2 and most likely the other defeats replaced with wins v lower teams.

Celtic being say 20 clear at the end of a season cannot be compared to anything in the English leagues.

On the flip side, if a team can find the formula over say Celtic or like Hearts have done vs The artists formerly known as Rangers this season, then you can pull a fair bit ahead.

The 4 teams a year league helps Celtic, (and used to help Rangers) because of the simple mathematics of it all as you've described TYB.  Any team could maybe take a few points of each of the ugly sisters, but 4 games have a total of 12 points up for grabs, so maybe 9 or 10 points for Celtic and 1 or 3 points for which ever other team it is.  With 2 games per year, it could end up 3 points each, and a much reduced gap at the top.  Ironically the reason given for this uncompetitive setup is more competition, supposedly because the best teams in the league play each other more often, more money etc.

The pleasing aspect to all this at the moment is that it could quite easily stuff Sevco, beacuase they have to play Hibs and Hearts 4 times each, giving the Edinburgh duo a big advantage.
