Cagey
Don't like him but there may be more to this than meets the eye, McClean having strong Republican believes.
Jimmy Wallace
Don't see why there should be more to it than meets the eye. What he has done is bad enough, clearly calling McClean a "****** b******" or similar. Well done to the FA for dealing with him so harshly. I hope the SFA take note. Gussie
Remember this is a multimillion pound industry with sponsorship now...not a school playground.. But you wouldn't think it with all the nonsense from players, managers, clubs, meedja and all the camp followers (thats us!)...roll on the start of the season...proper
Kilgour
I would clear them both out. There is no need for the religious bigotry that they BOTH so obviously enjoy. MySpazz
MySpazz
With Kilgour on this McClean is a tool, and is no wallflower when it comes to stirring it up. Broadfoot gave him a mouthful in a football match.... it's football, not cricket, so sometimes the level of slagging gets a bit low, very low in Kirk's case, but it's on the pitch.............. the team and managers can sort that stuff out IMO As they say they have done with McClean.......Pulis has a word with McClean etc was the follow up headline after he turned his back on the flag he plays under at his club.... Broadfoot insulted McClean McClean insulted an entire nation! cjw
MrBored
Pretty sure Broadfoot had a go at McClean in a game from last season where he said McClean dived for a pen. That is probably where this all stemmed from. Seems a little strange, this ban is larger than the one Suarez got for having a go at Evra and that was far more high profile. Broadfoot must have really had a go!
Havana Saint
Thoroughly welcome the move from the FA. No place in football for sectarianism, racism or homophobia of any kind. To deliver a ban of 10 games clearly illustrates the severity of the abuse given to McLean presumably for solely being a Roman Catholic. More worryingly is the way in which this was reported by a Scottish tabloid which made no mention of sectarianism whatsoever. A long way to go until we can move away from this poison.. a disgrace. http://www.theguardian.com/media/greenslade/2015/jul/24/daily-record-sanitises-story-of-player-banned-for-sectarian-tirade Smarmy Arab, Gussie, Abernethy Saint and 1 other
Abernethy Saint
Well said. Things are improving, though, very slowly.

My assumption was that it must have been heard by an official, where as the previous high profile cases of Suarez/Evra and Terry/Ferdinand were one word v another with some lip reading as evidence. Could be wrong.
Kilgour
McClean has previous at 3 clubs and regularly spouts off in Irish press and I cant recall anything previous about Clubfoot...however thats no excuse. 10 game ban sends out the right message but it must be followed up now with similar punishments for similar.offences. Jiangsu Sainty
McClean also has something vaguely sectarian on his knee. That said, I don't think what he did with the anthem in the friendly was all that bad, people keep saying he turned his back but he was side on. Turned his hip? Glad to see this type of ban, if only we could issue stadium bans of equivalent length for OF fans doing the same thing...
Honest Saints Fan
Very positive from the FA. Absolutely disgraceful to see sectarianism in this day and age. No excuse for if what so ever. Some education classes wouldn't go a miss for Kirk Broadfoot. Havana Saint

Abernethy Saint
Apparantly an education programme is part of the punishment, along with a £7,500 fine.
