Cagey
Ha ha. Same thing happened to me. Got a second letter on 2 March showing the Tax code number that was supposed to be replaced by the letter I got dated 17th Feb.As the second code was less beneficial, (and did not reflect the Transfer Allowance) I phoned up and was told that the code number on the system was the one shown on the original letter and the second letter had been in the system.A further letter is being sent to me with the original Tax code number. So much for automation, when the wheels turn there is no way to put the brakes on! If it was a car it would have failed its MOT.The help line number is 0300 200 3300.Ta,being on hold & listening to shit music for 30 mins was putting me off. Tranmere Saintee
As shown yet again by the miniscule amount paid by Facebook, Britain is the best Tax Haven in the world if you are a big corporation who donates to the Tory Party or have a Tory minister on the board. HOODLUM65
If you make a f*** up with your tax return you are liable to be hit or threatened with a hefty fine.If HMRC make a f*** up should compensation be awarded against the individual responsible, in favour of the person/company who have erroneously been penalised?Think we all know the answer to that one.Big brother rules o.k. Tranmere Saintee
Many years ago I was called in to the MDs office at the company I was working for to be told HRMC were going to arrest my wages for non payment of the fines they had imposed for not sending in my tax returns. First problem was that I had never been asked to fill 1 in which of course they said was impossible as they had sent me numerous reminders etc which again I had not received. In a moment of inspiration my MD just happened to ask them to confirm my address and they had somehow gone back to an address from 15 years previously despite having being sending my tax codes to the correct address. Did I get compo for the embarrassment and hassle they caused, did I feck, I just got a demand for the non payed fines at the correct address!! canuck_saint
i very much doubt there are a lot of them. theres certainly a vocal minority on here when the Daily Wail website has crashed because of the immigrant/workshy/single mothers rants that take place every day. I doubt there is a supercomputer around that could handle that amount of bile daily.

babychunder
It was 50% here too but cut to 45% a few years ago. Have been paying myself in dividends to get the bill down a bit. Left a lump in the company so I can pay myself more when times are hard.

canuck_saint
50 % for my salary brackeIIRC the personal tax free allowance in greece is around 5k GBP. in the uk its about 10K. that makes a huge difference.the base rate is just one of many factors when youre trying to compare who pays more or less.if youre self employed in the uk on a decent wage, with income tax, corp tax, employee and employer NI contribs, youd be well over 60% taxed even before the vat man turns up
SlickDT
On the grand scheme of things as a country we are capable of making a very good living even after taxation.I tend to find its people's outgoings that dictate the way they feel about their income. Abernethy Saint
Spot on. When I retired, I was worried about surviving on a pension. But once you strip out all the deductions, you lose work related expenses and stop spending money on shite, you actually end up better off! I've never saved so much in my life.
