Rise of the Tories...........

Recommended Posts

A low turnout has helped them. Less than 60% last I heard. A pal on fb has put a message up asking who the f*ck still votes Tory in Scotland. I don't get it either, particularly when you see the job their southern brethrens are doing of ruining the country.

I think Labour imploding multiple times since Indy Ref and a little voter apathy is a probable cause. To me, the Tories with Ruth in charge are the only real Unionist party in Scotland that can actually be any kind of opposition to the SNP. Rennie and Dugdale are just a couple of bams. Despite that the SNP came close to beating the system again, falling short by 2, no bad going.

Shame the Greens didn't get some more in the door though.

Not so long ago you could put a red rosette on a monkey in Glasgow & it would have got voted in. Never thought I would see the day they couldn't get a MSP in the whole of Glasgow.

Mind you it was on the cards as Dugdale is a lightweight.

IMO Scottish politics is now caught on a hook.  A constitutional bun fight is all that matters......interesting how everyone blames the Labour Party for everything even the Tory resurgence I suppose myths are real in terms of consequences.   The only party who talked issues was the Labour Party the rest postured about the constitution................the SNP doing the work of the right since 1934, and they still are!  Tartan Tory or Real Tory......coke or pepsi, the organised working class out of office and reduced to 20% of the vote....well done all you patriots get yer flags oot.............. while the footbanks grow and public services are scrapped or sold off!

I'm not that close to it (living down here in England) but it seems to me that the SNP got a shot across their bows with the loss of their majority? I suppose it depends who those who deserted the SNP voted for, you'd kind of assume labour, or maybe liberal, but tory??

No one deserted the SNP. Their vote increased. The Tories rose to a derisory 22%. The unionist/racist/Sevco vote is coelescing around Roothie because Dugdale is feckin useless, has no idea what her party stands for, and is perceived as soft on independence. Despite all the media shit, nothing much really changed.

Not into Politics -the folk are as corrupt as each other -why is it that Tony Blair is still walking free following the Iraq war etc - Why do we pamper to Uncle Sam and like little lost sheep follow them into war.

Politicians are paid a very good wage considering the length of time they are in Government yet still milk the system both here and in Brussels.

Amazing when the Independence vote was about to take place HOW the so called big 3 made time to venture north yet are now fighting over whether the UK should stay in Europe Boris v Dave.

Farmers in Scotland particularly in the Borders have always supported the Tories a they know they will get subsidies from Westminster and Europe -so it will be interesting how they vote IF the UK leaves via Brexit bearing in mind the SNP would welcome staying in the European community as they see the benefits of doing so for Scotland as a whole.

Yeah the Tories are taking advantage of Labours demise BUT will it be the same result in Scotland if there is a UK exit.

Thats where the SNP will benefit and as a result another Scottish referendum.

Shit that was a political message ---SORRY

That's what worries me about the SNP, although I continue to vote for them with the bigger prize in mind. One stat that's not been covered by the media is that support for independence, at around 49% according to polls, may now be running ahead of support for the SNP, which is bizarre in a situation where the SNP just scored the highest % vote of any party in Western Europe. At least it isn't boring. We've got the result of the Eu ref to come, with the possibility that Scotland might keep England in Europe, which is beyond hilarious, then next year the probable complete removal of Labour from Scottish local government, which is well overdue. It will be very interesting to see the books in some councils after decade of corrupt labour rule. Meanwhile the Tories will probably rise to 23 or even 24%, which the media will declare as extraordinary", a "revolution" etc etc.

I love stats.......where did you see that 49% support for indy?   Last I saw was 42%....remember also the shy unionist counterbalance which is why the polls were pushed to the edge of their margin of error (4%) in 2014 ref.  The Snp did of course win comfortably, but 47% of the vote...on a 55% turnout is circa 26% of the population, 1 in 4 hardly a mandate for anything....and a major seepage of support compared to previous plebicites.  This may be easily dismissed by their supporters, but on with these figure there is an inherant legitimacy question over any major constitutional change such as 2nd ref.  IMO they have reached their high water mark and will find it increasingly difficult to blame anyone and everyone for everything....with Ruth spliting unionist vote we may remain in a state of stasis for a number of years, but 0 evidence of any slide towards indy, not in any meaningful sense.

Bless. Tick tock. You're an educated, intelligent guy Smarmy. Why back a party that has colluded in the impoverishment of the class your party is supposed to support? All they're interested in is their blood sucking jobs and expenses. Do the right thing, vote for a progressive, left of centre party. No one believes in old men filling in dodgy expenses claims pretending to be socialists anymore. 16 year old school leavers have got it, the old ladies the Labour Party lied to repeatedly about their pensions have got it. Get with the programme.
