rickardo
Sorry to say this but there's more chance of us winning the league this year than Perth winning city of culture 2021.

Abernethy Saint
Hull old town centre is a really smart and vibrant place, something you don't expect before you go there, presumably because of the City of Culture thing. Would do wonders for Perth. sleepless

Cagey
Strange. They want knock down the city hall but they are using it as a backdrop  to launch the bid for city of culture.  Davie81
HOODLUM65
Wouldn't call it strange, that's the mindset of Councillors who don't know what they are doing. We might get a cultural tour of the City Hall, St. Paul's Church, St. Andrew's Church (though planning is in the pipeline by the Y.M.C.A.), The White Horse pub, the 208 pub, the Clachan bar, the Quality cafe, Peddie's (tho' there is apparent interest in the building) and the old Vic pub, not forgetting McEwans and several other empty premises. Davie81
City of culture. The only place where you can put a line on, drop stuff off at the charity shop, get a haircut, grab a tea and buy some batteries for a pound all in the same street! sleepless
Â City of culture. The only place where you can put a line on, drop stuff off at the charity shop, get a haircut, grab a tea and buy some batteries for a pound all in the same street! to be honest, that sums up pretty much every town high street anywhere. Perth's no different. Tranmere Saintee and blueheaven
Gussie
 Stoke on Trent, Sunderland, Coventry, Paisley, maybe more The other one is Hereford as far as I know. That's where Mott the Hoople come from....also.a famous FA Cup win....some decent cider.......and.er..thats it! Just out of interest...what defines "Culture" in this competition? Art Galleries?, Salmon fishing?, independent shops? Music scene? concert halls? Or a load of fancy flower pots and illuminations lighting up the Skinnergate?

sleepless
I don't think it will make any difference. Year of Culture doesn't seem to be an EU thing. I haven't seen lots of EU logos on the events in Hull, anyway.
Abernethy Saint
According to wiki, deffo an EU thing.  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Capital_of_Culture Although the Boss points out that the application is for the UK City of Culture, presumably the U.K. Nominee as the European City, which could still go ahead as a purely U.K. thing, without the nomination. If we are out of Europe by then. And, not out of the UK. So, all pretty straightforward. Lochwinnochsaintee
There are plans for improvement and electrification of the railway through Perth which would involve a major refurb of the station with it having to close for several months. Wouldn't it be embarrassing if Perth won this and visitors couldn't get in by train?
