saintgscot 84 Report post Posted November 12, 2016 According to Daily Record Tommy is one of the top nine candidates to take over from Strachan if he quits. Some of ht targets listed seen unlikely to take job on. But would Tommy? http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/who-could-replace-gordon-strachan-9028357

babychunder 766 Report post Posted November 12, 2016 He's a good manager with a proven ability to get a lot out of not much. However I feel there are other people in line before him - a good thing because I want him to stay.
Abernethy Saint 3,367 Report post Posted November 12, 2016 I don't think the big English job is ever going to come because of Tommy's age, so this or the Norn Irn job may be his main chance of a step up - if the Scotland job is a step up anymore. montrosesaintee 3,626 Report post Posted November 12, 2016 I just can't see how the Scotland job is a positive career move for anyone. You could have an amazing qualifying campaign, and then have three or four bad results on the bounce and be destroyed by the media to the point that you become unemployable. While Tommy has proven over three seasons that he can get the best out of a limited pool of players, each season has included a run of pretty awful results at some stage. Do that at International level and you've finished bottom of a group and your career is over.

babychunder 766 Report post Posted November 12, 2016 Maybe other people but who are they cause I don't think many are on this list apart from del who would take it. Davies, Lambert, McLeish, McInnes - McGhee's the most likely I think.

Lambert out of the running I think...Eck's had a bash, Dekko needs to do more work at Pittodrie, McGhee?..got the front. What about McCoist? or is he now a lost cause? babychunder 766 Report post Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) I dont think he'd take it, tbh. I don't think he'll be offered it, hope not, he might be tempted if it trebles his salary on a four year contract Edited November 12, 2016 by babychunder

Dave Ferg 721 Report post Posted November 12, 2016 Let's try something a wee bit different maybe. No fixed position of Scotland "manager" but select one on a game by game basis (manager of the month?), making the role an honour for whomsoever is selected. A couple of Assistants could do the scouting in Scotland/England and further afield as necessary. Its time for a freshness of approach and I don't see any real benefit paying a fixed manager a lot of money for what should be seen as an honourable appointment (with a suitable amount of success-related remuneration). Just a thought and I'm well prepared to be shot down in flames for the suggestion but surely we must try something different?

What about McCoist? or is he now a lost cause? nobody has seen McCoist for years, since that time he puffed his chest out in a macho current bun type way and said............... "We don't do walking away" and then he ahem walked/ran away

nips 210 Report post Posted November 13, 2016 Tommy is exactly the type of manager Scotland need, however I don't think he's a big enough name for the SFA to consider him. If they did offer him the job, I'd be very surprised if he turned it down. He'd get a much higher salary and he's probably achieved as much as he's ever going to achieve at Saints so this would be a much bigger challenge for him. Abernethy Saint 3,367 Report post Posted November 13, 2016 The Sevconians over at Bears Den have a very similar list, pretty much the same names, including Tommy, for their next manager.
rik2304 4,367 Report post Posted November 13, 2016 Not for me. Tommy isn't interested in playing young players either. He'd probably just loan out Oliver Burke to Estonia.
