Player contracts and transfers

What is the point in Rowan Vine slagging SJFC off in the press . Was popular with the fans and players alike but now he will turn in too the new Daniel Grainger when he visits McDiarmid park with Hibernian. Sour grapes much.

His agent said saints could nt afford him this season but he wanted to stay in Scotland.

Tbh I think his fitness was pivotal in saints decision. Why pay(probably way too much) for a player that only lasts 60 mins when you can get someone younger and fitter for much less.

  Not rocket science.

Oh dear. I saw the thing on the news tonight, already knowing about how he'd found out we weren't keeping him on, and still kind of felt disappointed for him.

But if these "proper team" comments are true, well what a tosser.

You may well still have friends at St Johnstone Rowan, but I don't think you'll find many of them sitting in the stand when you come back to Perth.

To be fair, if we did not communicate in an overt way to Rowan Vine that he was not receiving the offer of a new contract then I think it was extremely discourteous and very poor employee relations. Many employers start an employee on a fixed term contract and then if performance is up to scratch will extend the contract either on a fixed term or permanent contract basis. If performance is not up to the required standard or other financial considerations arise then this should be discussed openly with the employee. I would suggest if you were in Rowan's position you would feel equally aggrieved. As an ex human resources manager, I think, if true, it reflects poorly on us and hardly creates a climate where players will recommend us to other players in the future as to the type of club they should think about joining.

It costs nothing other than a few minutes of time and a bit of balls to communicate a piece of bad news.

Proper as ole... Premier league football is proper when you have acheived promotion and sustained yourself in that league simple as that.. However there are a few clubs who I would consider SPL teams through attendance, City size etc etc...

Rangers

Dundee

Dunfermline

Falkirk

Partick Thistle

All Time SPL Teams

Callum Davidson was told well in advance that his contract was not getting renewed (and still played him)

could saints not have told vine he was not getting a contract rather than he finds out in the media

can saints not even do a simple thing like that correctly

i would have been laughing like hell if that happened to scumdee

Why do so many people believe everything written in gutter press?

I agree! It's his words against our club at the moment and for some stupid reason a lot of people on here are going with his. Yes he was half decent and yes we wanted him to stay but our club made a decision. Lets move on, we have Europe to be thinking of!

Having sympathised with Rowan Vine's previous predicament and felt disappointed at the way Saints had dealt with things, I was more than happy to wish him all the best at his new club. My opinion has changed today. He has pretty much confirmed on Twitter that his words haven't been taken out of context. How can he criticise Saints for being unprofessional when he is hypocritical enough to show a total lack of professionalism and respect with his recent comments to the press?

“I played 37 times for Saints but going into that game, I pretty much knew that whatever happened, I wasn’t going to be at the club for the European games. So when we won the game, I went away feeling I had achieved something that I wouldn’t experience the benefit of.''

Eh? But I thought that you were surprised not to win a new contract.. Hope he fails badly at Hibs and he keeps his new beard for comedy purposes.

More here. Hibs are bigger and better than Saints.

I love our diddy club, regardless of what this arsehole thinks. 'mon the Saints.

1minute hes saying he found out through twitter he wasnt getting an offer now hes saying he was told 3days before the end of the season by the manager, whats he wanting ? for the club to re-iterate on the final day"here mate we really dont want you!"

Vine seems to have forgotten that there wasn't a queue of clubs lining up to sign him last summer. We took a chance on a guy who had hardly played football for 3 years and he did well, scored some good goals but his contributions towards the end of the season were not great. It was understandable the club could not give him a new deal for financial reasons and he was told this in good time by Lomas, so what is he whinging about?

He's only got what I assume is a decent deal from Hibs due to Saints taking a gamble on him last summer. He'd do well to remember that rather than slagging us off.

The Scotsman article is even worse that the DR one from yesterday. I quite liked him when he was here...now I'd think twice before peeing on him if he was on fire.

Agreed - the DR article was ambiguous - and I thought he deserved the benefit of the doubt, but the Scotsman article is clear as day.  He wasn't offered a new contract in January, and Lomas told him that the wage bill was too high and they couldn't afford to keep him 3 games before the end of the season. Does he want a flashing neon sign before he gets the message?  To turn round and blame Saints for not telling him what was happening is nothing short of pathetic.

One thing I feel we missed out on is the fact he was greatful of the opportunity given by Saints and wanted to stay here. Wanted to commit to another contract. Didnt want to move in the hope of more money elsewhere!

So im disappointed in that regard but ur people are right with the inconsistency etc.

Saints could of maybe sat down with him and said well we cannot afford ur wage. But we can offer u reduced wage of xxx if u want to stay?
