Awful lot of expectation to put on these young players.

You think so?

Mannus/Banks, MacKay/Miller, Anderson, Wright, Easton/Scobbie, Croft, Millar, McDonald, Wotherspoon, May, MacLean

Pretty solid experienced starting 11 with various permutations and options within it.

Scott Brown is a known quantity, proving himself to be ready against Celtic.

Liam Caddis has been around the squad for a long time as well.

Murray Davidson is still on the books and we all know what he brings if he can get fit.

I mean the young players that have been promoted into the senior squad. Brown played really well against Celtic but its just the beginning of his career and in no way signifies that he will make a sustained impact on the first team. Even Ryan Gauld was in and out the first team.

Whether Caddis actually kicks on and makes a useful impact or becomes Kevin Moon II remains to be seen and I'm hopeful that he does.

He isn't expected to make a sustained impact on the team though, he is promoted to the squad to be used as and when required. His preferred position is covered by Chris Millar and Gary MacDonald with Murray Davidson to return aswell.

Gauld was 16 when he started for United. He only just turned 18 half way through last season.

Caddis is 21 in 10 weeks, Brown is 20 in November and has already made 5 senior appearances for us.

If he's not expected to make an impact on the first team then why bin Cregg? Muzz might not be back its still unknown.Plus we don't know how long it will take to get him match fit. There is still a good bit of pre-season to go so plenty might still happen.

TW has said he wants 3 players in.

Without wanting to sound all doom and gloom, he could barely get a game for Alloa last season and didn't impress at all according to their fans, who wouldn't even want him if he was released. And he's our fourth choice central midfielder. Brown has only played bits and bobs and isn't at the level to be starting every week in that position, yet he's third choice. Millar and McDonald will be starting together every week.

Muzz will likely be struggling to be fit by the time his contracts up, no real point including him in chat just now.

We could easily have had Dunne, Craig and Goodwillie in place. May could also have already agreed another extension. Yet here we are, with the first game of the season on the horizon, and all we've managed is to severely weaken key areas of the squad

If anyone was in Goodwillie's boots you would take the offer from Aberdeen even if it was less money than Saints.  The player cannot wait for the unknown to be told in a week's time "sorry son there is no money".  I woudl imagien theefore that he will be signing for Aberdeen within 24 hours.

I find the whole unknown budget hard to digest.  We no longer have the wages of Wee Nigel, the jumping giant, Paddy and Dunne.  Mmmhhhh.

Increase in season ticket sales plus Scottish cup revenue.  Maybe we are just holding off to sign Sneijder and Messi.

Good squad at the moment, but we should always strive to improve.

we have got 20 senior players on the books, many of them have been here for a while and are on good money for a club of Saints size. No way we could afford Dunne, Craig and Goodwille as well as offering May increased terms. Edited by R.B.B:- Adz

Only 13 senior outfield players at the moment. As things stand if we were to lose say Chris Millar we would be relying on a young player performing in centre midfield which is very risky.

I can count 13!!

We've got 13 senior outfield players, with Brown, Kane, Caddis and Thomson all appearing at different points for the first team and Easton highly rated.

We're not too badly off if everyone's fit. One more injury in centre mid or up top and we're down to the kids however.
