Player contracts and transfers

Looks like we didn't sign anyone else before the Euro deadline unfortunately. At least we didn't panic and bring someone in just for the sake of it. Is this deadline just for the first round or are we knackered for playing any new players if we get through?

Just the first round, and we can still add one player up until 24 hours before the first leg.

Surely Brown could have shown him the courtesy of meeting with him to negotiate.

If Scobie was prepared to accept a 15% wage cut, I can't see how we will find a replacement for the same value who has his experience and is prepared to be a squad player.

Tommy obviously felt he was an important part of the team just a shame Brown doesn't share the 'In Tommy we trust' ethos

He "trusted in Tommy" last season, and gave Watson and Coulson healthy two year contracts, and now 12 months later he's facing the prospect of having to pay off their contracts in one lump sum because Tommy no longer wants them. He "trusted in Tommy" and offered Swanson one of the largest (respective) contracts we've ever offered, and he "trusted in Tommy" and offered Scougall a contract which beat off English League Two sides.

Let's not paint Brown as some villain who never does things TW wants, he has a responsibility to maintain control of the budget, and that's what he's doing. It took Tommy until the last two months of the season to even give Scobbie a run of starts, if anyone is disposable (considering Mannus accepted a cut and Millar was re-signed earlier) then its the high earning, third choice, 29yo Centre half who's out of contract and who barely played in the previous season.

We are 9 days away from competing in Europe for the 5th Season out of the last 6 . The Managers and Players deserve huge credit for this achievement but we should all remember that this would never be possible without the excellent stewardship of our club by the Brown Family and other Directors . With the level of our support we need people in charge who support our Manager but are also sometimes prepared to make difficult and unpopular decisions for the longterm  sustainability of the Football Club . The Tam Scobbie decision probably falls into this category .

Well said Tam did a great job and will be remembered fondly however no big loss and Brown clearly thinks money is better spent elsewhere

MS I presume you were using Wiki for your argument, is it is actually 128 games if you look properly.

Tranmere sorry my mistake yes. Even at 128 games and say he was on £500 a week then it would still be £1,000 per match or just over £10 a minute if he played full matches :).

Spoke to Tam at the Luzern after party and the troubles he has with his legs (ankle) and injections he regularly needs I predict him being out injured if he plays regularly at his new club. He was reliable for us and unfortunately declined the new contract.

Always find the talk of % decrease in salary a bit odd when 'out of contract' and you cant keep going up and up.  His driver would appear cash, ehen he could have said he wanted regular football as opposed to run his mouth, which clearly shows he loved his time here and wanted to stay.  Wish he had stayed.

I doubt Harvey would be there and trailing it if it was an ex-Boreham Wood left back. The Old Firm connection is the obvious MOH one so perhaps it is.

Steve Brown responds to the Scobbie criticism, says they had to cut money elsewhere to help the Scougall deal. Says Scobbie hasn't started even half of available games in his time here, so was offered a lower basic wage, but with higher bonuses for starting games which evened it up to his old deal, and that TW agreed to only offer Scobbie a one year deal.

Intrigued to see if people are still absolutely raging at him?

“As much as I accept that he was part of a successful squad, he only started 18 out of 46 competitive games last season and over the course of his five seasons with us he was in the starting line-up in less than half of the games. With this in mind we tried to structure a deal which, although it did reduce his basic wage, offered a higher reward for him starting matches so that if he played he wouldn’t be worse off. We were only offering him a one year deal after consulting and agreeing with Tommy...That’s what I saw us attempting to do with someone who was a squad player and in my opinion that was a sensible way to address it."

Aka..."Simmer the f*ck down Tam, glad you've found your level."

Good piece with Brooner. Well done to the club for addressing the situation. Not all that long ago we'd have seen things like this ignored.

West Ham left back Stephen Hendrie, formerly of Hamilton, has just been released. Scottish. Frozen out. Point to prove. Tick, tick, tick.

He's been rumoured to have signed for Kilmarnock for a few days now

He was also pretty shite for Hamilton, fwiw
