Either way, it's clear we need at least one striker, whoever that may be. On a side note, very strange that we had 2 first team players playing against blairgowrie and yet could not fill the bench. Suggests that either, both are on their way out (assume it is this) or maybe saints were expecting a new signing to be in the squad last night..... or another way to look at it, maybe more beneficial to give say Callaghan a full 90 minutes yesterday (regardless of the level) than have him sit on a bench for 90 minutes without any hope of getting on against Brechin due to having plenty midfield cover (Craig and McCann) already on the bench ? MacMillan I can understand, he's not good enough, be best for all parties to just cut ties with him I think.
Shaggy Jenkins
May was always a gamble but he is certainly better than what we have. There better be a bloody good reason, and not one that involves being cheap. There also better be a bloody good plan B\C. Honestly if not **** turning up to watch Kane \ Hendry \ Mcmillan run about a football park

TheYellowBox
Would be interesting to see what the stumbling blocks were. To come in so late with something significant enough to scupper the deal indicates there was games being played. Until he signs elsewhere, not ruling out something being done, but must be very very remote now. Hey ho, we move on, but the prospect of have Kane and McMillan as our strike force fills me with fear. Hendry is young, so may come good. Fans will be rightly hacked off, but if the club felt the deal was going too far (whatever it may be), then I'd rather we walked away than get dragged into a long term deal that costs the club. Jad
Really disappointed by this news. Wonder what the extras were that scuppered the move & was Vine pivotal in influencing a no deal, payback for what happened with his contract? Goodwin apparently at game with Vine. Oh well it was looking like a good news weekend but sadly feels totally flat now.

templeofsaints
If the medical was done and everything set for his return last night and then for whatever reason the deal fell through, the club have to get some sort of statement out today. Otherwise you can guarantee the following: a) Vine/May will get a story in the papers about how it was Saints fault b) All the rumours will continue to grow legs and that will feed into the backing off the park and at games If it came down to money, Saints were totally within their rights to backout the deal/cap their offer - no player is bigger than the club. But the key thing is that the club can't stick their head in the sand about this - even if just to take the pressure off Tommy we need some sort of statement asap. Given it's been established our PR is terrible I can only imagine how bad a statement from us could be at the moment, I'm half expecting Tommy to come out and say we're happy to go with the squad we've got and it's now 2 out 1 in.. Deals collapse for all sorts of reasons but the fact the whole saga has been played out in the public eye (the chairman's statement last week and then the story coming out on the press on the Monday) I think means the club have to address it. All of that is even before we considering the standing the player has with the wider support. I really hope the club face this head on and don't just wait for it to blow over. TheYellowBox
Sort of lost in the noise here is that Brown said the budget was gone, but would make an exception for May, so does that apply to any other striker? Also, was a new contract for Clark not just days away, weeks ago? Has something fallen through there too? Surely the rest of the players must be getting the sense that fans are getting restless and they can recognise where the squad is light. St Mikey
It’s not a surprise a deal sours. We seem to fall for it all the time. Too many reports of what’s happened or happening that what is the truth. All I can see right now is Dundee we’re wanting him permanently and there was a delay on the transfer fee, we express our interests and his contract gets mutually terminated by Aberdeen and we start talks now they collapse. Great way for us to give the Scum a player they can afford without paying a transfer fee for. If it were minor things to be ironed out it must be bonuses and/or release clauses if a bigger team comes knocking again. SM doesn’t give me the impression he’s a difficult or awkward guy to negotiate with. What does the club do? Go to the press saying the deals gone bad due to x, y or z or hold off. Typical we are drawn into a shit storm for trying to get a player. Just know the start of this season truly has been appalling.
